Hotel Suggestions please!

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to PDC the second week of April and need help finding a hotel.

We like the relaxation an AI offers but dont want to limit ourselves to one place as far as eating options go.  We also do not want to stay in a huge, megaresort.  We prefer a low key, tranquil place with beach front access.

Any suggestions?

LocoGringo represents many, many properties in PDC--you can see what they have to offer under "lodging" at the top of the page. Playa Maya is a popular non-AI hotel--Playa Palms looks good also.

I'm not sure if you want an AI or not -

Based on not wanting to limit yourself to eating options, the Wyndham properties might fit the bill.  Both the Maya (we stayed here in 2008) and Azteca are in Playacar and when you stay at one you can use the sister property as well.  Both are oceanfront - but check on the status of the beaches in Playa since they are having serious erosion problems.  The ammenities sharing is also true with Sandos properties but I don't think the trek between the Caracol and Playacar is feasable.  I'm pretty sure RIU properties allow you to resort hop too.  There are several really nice hotels only a few blocks off of the beach and some beachfront condos on Playa in case an AI isn't your thing.

If you are on a budget, Hotel Lab-nah looks very nice.  I checked it out last May altho I didn't get to see a room.  It has balconies that should have a semi decent view.  Its right behind beachfront Fusion Hotel, which offers good food and nitelife, and on a side street 6th, I believe.  I did not like Pelicano Inn, between 6th and 8th!  Playa Maya has a nice beachfront and great breakfast but is more $$!  Check out Lab-nah.

Playa Palms is very nice!  Also Playa Maya, Mimi del Mar, or Alhambra might fit the the bill too.
