Akumal vs Tankuh Bay Question

I everyone!  I haven't posted here in years. We just got our tax return back & it was better than expected so we decided to take the kids on their first Mexican vaca! Hubby & I stayed in Tulum 8 years ago & loved every minute of it, but I've always dreamed about taking the kids to Akumal. We're adventurous & love to eat out, so we're not looking at an all inclusive. I found one condo on Tankuh bay in our price range (we want to stay under $2000 for the week), but I just don't know anything about the area. Are there a lot of restaurants? Good snorkeling? How does it compare to staying on Half Moon? Thanks!

Casa Cenote (Manatee) has a restaurant owned by an expat. A great Sunday Texas barbecue. I believe there is one other further North up the bay..... For snorkeling, HMB is far superior for reef access. On Tankha, you'll need a kayak to get to the reef. $ for cabs, or renting a car to leave the area, is a must as the walk to 307 (even from Pavo Real) is HOT.
