What's the latest?

After visiting several years in a row, we haven't been for a couple years now, and I'm wondering what's the latest. If staying at Las Casitas, will there be drama about snorkeling etc? Thanks!

When are you going?  We are going to be down in the area Nov. 5th - 16th and can give an update when we get back.  We are actually staying on HMB though.

An old colleague was down last week and said that Sargazzo was really bad in PDC and bad in Tulum.  The storm seems to have helped clear things up though.

    Cenotes don't get sargassum though.

I will pop this thread back up and ask how is snorkeling working these days.  Is there "drama" to snorkel if staying in Las Casitas?  Thanks.

As far as I know (my last visit was 8 months ago), if you are a DIY snorkeler, you have to stay out of the lanes marked by the buoys.   Those lanes are for guided tours only.   There's also a no-go section for anyone.   There's a map by the dive center next to Lol-ha explaining it.

As you will see, that leaves very little area to snorkel within shouting distance of Lol-ha (lots of space already off limits for the boats).  You may want to go down to where the Secrets and ABBWR properties meet.   Lots of good snorkeling there, but again, you need to stay out of the lanes if you are a DIY snorkeler.

    Returning to Mexico Mar 12 to 19, 2019 [19th trip to MEX, 15x to RM (1998 to 2019), 9x to HMB (2006 to 2016)]

Last week we just went in right past the boats and snorkeled down to the ABR area and then it opens up. No problems.
