I absolutely enjoyed this, Pablo! Gracias for taking us for the ride!

Tricky, I'll send you a PM when we get back next week.

Xw, I did a walk around Hacienda Morelos yesterday and I don't think it is suitable for you. I am a contractor and have done a lot of remodeling for people with mobility issues and HM has many challenges for you, especially with the washroom access. In the guest rooms there is no room to shut the bathroom door once you are inside if you are in a wheelchair and there is also a solid 4" lip at the entrance to the shower. The public washrooms are even worse, with a 2' wide opening into the toilet area. I will try to get some photos up later today and will continue to see if I can find someplace more suitable for you to stay.
EDIT: I just had a thought, are you on Facebook? I am not, but I have been told that there are at least two Facebook groups centered in PM made up of expats that live here. Your best bet to find accessible accommodations might be to ask there.
Here is the link to one of them.

Don't think I'm not holding you to this bro.  I'd also like to discuss why the Badgers are ducking the Terps this year's B1G football schedule.

Hey Badger,

I read your entire report again last week during our rain here on the East Coast. Thanks a bunch for your tip to share with the LG gang.

Thanks Bernie!
Tricky, you and I both know that the Badgers would thump the Terps!

Well, we're back in PoMo for one week, arrived Tuesday, I'll try to add some more photos, again, will probably be mostly food porn.

A few notes.... road construction around the square is mostly completed except for some of the adjacent sidewalks.

A new building is being built in the former large empty lot across from Hacienda Morelos, supposedly it is to be a Chedraui Select supermarket.

Cancun Billy's has been closed since we arrived, we have been told it is due to either/both of: one of the owners having been diagnosed with cancer and that the government had imposed a temporary shutdown due to  them selling alcohol on election day.

Temps have been in the high 80s and rather humid, but as our friend Alicia who is from Dallas mentioned, it is much hotter in Dallas than here.

Sargassum has been bad on some days, but on some days there is hardly any.

A new taco place has opened at Plaza del Puerto, near the office of the dentist that we use.

From left, chorizo, beef, and pork tacos, about 80 cents each

A couple of interesting items on the soup menu

Dinner for us Wednesday evening was basically free, after the serving of botanos, Felipe, the manager at El Pesquero insisted that we share this huge platter of ceviche with him and it was delicious!

Badger, It is 6:30 a.m. and you have made me want Mexican food for breakfast.
Thanks for the food porn pics.  All looks so yummy.  Hope Babs is doing well with dental work.
Hugs

Tuesday evening we invited our friend Willy ( head bartender at El P) and his family out for dinner at Chilpaya's in La Colonia

I had the Veracruz style shrimp

Babs' grilled fish

Willy had octopus

Once again, it seems like every time we visit at least one restaurant the we have frequented in the past is now closed and at least one more new one is open. One of them that is closed is Mi Cocina, south on Rojo Gomez, but the owner from there is now working the breakfast shift at La Sirena. Willy had told us that his wife was cooking at a new place on Ninos Heroes called El Sazon de Mexico, so yesterday we went there for breakfast, very good and also cheap!

My Chiliquiles

Babs' Huevos Motulenos

Both meals came with a fruit plate and drink included, total cost before tip was less than $8.00.

Drooling here

That is too bad about Cancun Billy's.  Hope things work out.  I thought tourist beach clubs/restaurants were allowed to sell alchol during elections. I guess just resorts maybe?

That looks like a nice evening with your friends.

Loving this!

PJ, Babs' dental work went very well and she is now done for this trip. I should have news about the spring trip shortly after we get back. Someday I'll share with you my recipe for a quick, easy version of Huevos Ranchero.

Crunch, we were told that he was allowed to be open until a certain time late on election day, but went past that time and the cops then showed up.

Crunch, we were given more info on Cancun Billy's last night and while I really trust the source, I don't like to post stuff that I'm not 100% sure of....but because of a combination of things, my source said he will be surprised if they ever reopen, at least under the current ownership because of health and monetary problems. Too bad, because although it wasn't our favorite place to eat, we did have some good times there, including last spring with Twirls, Catalina and Bosco.

I'll try to get some more pix up later.

It seems kind of strange that the webcam is still working, so maybe there is still hope for them.

This was not one of my favorite places either, mainly because their steps were so darn steep! LOL

I am enjoying your trip!!

A few more photos

Lunch today from Caribelos, 4 shrimp tacos for about $5.00

I had this torta carne asada from Caribelos 2 days ago, less than $2.00

For lunch yesterday we split an order of giant onion rings from Unico beach bar

For dinner at El P I had seafood mixiote

Babs had the fish tacos

Dinner night before last was at Spaghetinos with Jon & Alicia from Casa Toucan (far left and far right) and our friends Stefan and Yoe. Stefan is originally from Germany and Yoe from Cuba. They live in PoMo and we met them thru Jon & Alicia last year.

We ordered an assortment of pizzas to share, they were good, but Babs and I still prefer the ones from My Little Italy near the square

Photo from Ave. Rojo Gomez showing the beginning construction of a new Chedraui super market, Hotel Hacienda Morelos can be seen in the background

Are all the little shops lining the street outside HM gone? Looks like the Chedraui will be a fairly large store. Do you know which will be the front/back?

Cindy, the little shops are all still there. Not sure where the front & back will be, but we were told that the place will include some sort of covered parking. I don't think they will want big delivery trucks taking the one-way street in front of Hacienda Morelos, but who knows?

Thanks, Paul. Yeah, I can't imagine big trucks trying to maneuver down that street, especially with that school next to HM.

Thanks, 9KC!

For breakfast yesterday we tried a new place on Ninos Heroes called Mangata.

Mixed fruit smoothie

We both had their version of Chilaquiles, which contained an egg, bacon and spinach

For lunch we tried another new place which opened last winter on Rojo Gomez, called Ala Burger, where the meat is cooked on a grill up front

I had the bacon mushroom burger

And Babs the Hawaiian burger, which had a slice of pineapple and an onion ring on top

Dinner was at the always reliable El Pesquero, where I had to have a shrimp cocktail

And Babs' favorite, the huge vegetarian burrito

Crunch, I actually asked about that and was told that the cost to rent any beachfront property here is obscenely high.

Thanks for the update, Badger. Glad to hear most of the construction is done on the roads. I'm sure the vendors are too.
You have reminded me that a hole in the wall taco place here has BOGO tacos on Tuesday. I think I shall! Still doesn't come close to your dirt cheap prices though.

Pablo, I missed the rest of your trip report somehow.  I'm still stuck on those onion rings and smoothie this eve, but all the food looks great.  Thanks again for taking the time out of your trip to post for all of us.  Mi amigo, abrazos.  MB
