Are they still doing guided tours EGC?  Many or few?

Thanks!

From what I can tell, there's a few people swimming within the buoys so I assume they are on tours.  By few, I mean not very many.

lots of people snorkeling on their own from "the rocky point".

El gran chico,
Still hoping you will be able to answer my question.  During busy daytime, if I exit the beach to go to Super Chomak, etc, will I be able to return past the guard and proceed on my walk to Jade Bay?

Evergreen, as much as I enjoy playing an investigative reporter on the internet, in real life I need to play a dad and a husband.

That said, what I've heard is "it depends".  People from ABBWR are ok to go free by showing their wristbands.  Secrets people can go free showing their room keys.   For condo stays, there is a wristband system being setup.  I understand that this a work in progress at the moment and what's true now might be totally diferent when you get here.  My advice right now would be to carry some sort of proof you are staying in Jade Bay and you'l be ok.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Went during the height of the day today (Saturday).  No problem either way (entrance/exit) getting through at the HAC lobby at the beach side of the arch with our ABBWR bracelets.

Man, this is a bummer! We're headed down next week with our kids. Staying at Barcelo but wanted to take them to Akumal. We stayed at ABR with them 6yrs ago and they wanted to see the beach again! May avoid the place all together now or maybe just get a day pass from ABR instead! :(

A day pass to ABBWR is now $90 per person so I'd suggest paying the $5 at the CEA entrance and using their restroom/shower facilities while visiting the Bay.

I can't believe the monstrosity that has been put up in front of Mexicarte.  We are trying to plan a trip down to ABBWR with friends who have never been to Mexico and are very skeptical that it is as beautiful as we have described it and as friendly and relaxed an atmosphere as we have said it is.  Now this.  Great, just great.  They will see that and instantly be turned off.  Why is it so hard to create something that doesn't look like Beirut?  It would take maybe a few days to put up a temporary wood fence that looks like it is supposed to be there.  Then work on something more permanent that can stand the weather and salt damage in the area, perhaps an attractive stone wall that is just high enough to discourage hopping over it, but, low enough to not look like a compound.  And Mexicarte might want to relocate.  They are going to be hurt the most by all of this.

It's been 7 years since we've stayed at Half Moon Bay & we've stayed away due to the groups of snorkelers being brought in then. Whenever we've considered returning, we decide not to due to the sad state of affairs in Akumal. I miss it and feel bad. I'm most concerned about the ocean life and I hope they are safe. I'll be researching this forum for updates to help us decide if we can/shoud return. Thanks for your posts friends.

Someone on facebook told me if you had an abr wristband, excuse the old initials, you did not have to pay the 5 bucks.  I hope that is true.  It is about time to find another place to vacation.  We have been going down here since 2004 and many times twice a year.  W are heading back down in August.  The snorkeling is insane and it will probably be our last time.  It will be if they charge me 5 bucks to go to the chomack.

I am hearing the access road is blocked again (between the 307 and the arch).   Any one there to tell us what is going on?   I'm losing count of how many times this happened.

Gran Chico, what is going on?  It is the same story different version. It is an issue on public land access, land ownership, protection of the bay, etc.  So yesterday's road closure was an effort of people protesting for change to be what they believe to be correct.

Well called 911 yesterday numerous times, police where there but did not help a lot. The road open and closed at regular intervals to let people in and out.

Thanks Kay. I know the background, I was trying to get at if people able to get in out of HMB, whether the blockade was temporary or more lasting.   Sounds like people were too inconvenienced this time.

We are headed to Akumal in early May and wanted to ask very recent visitors about their experiences visiting the bay and access issues from 307.  I've also read that regular size fins are not allowed in the bay, can anyone verify this?  Also, has anyone figured out a good day of week and time of day to snorkel Yalku Lagoon to avoid the masses that are bused in from all over?  Is the lagoon still suffering from the algea and brown "muck" issues that stem from overuse/overcrowding and the effects of NON biodegradable sunscreen?  Thanks.

In November we did go to Yal Ku on a Sunday morning and it was very tranquil.  We did not see any of the brown stuff or massive smelt pockets that plagued it the last few years.

As for Akumal Bay..... my husband almost was arrested for veering into the area only the "tour guides" are allowed to use and it was very ugly.  I am not sure if that is currently an issue though now since they have limited access.  We did wear short swim fins and just quit going in the bay in the area in front of Lol Ha.
