Beach access, again.

Right now there is a protest about the beach access in Akumal. Just a heads up.

I saw an article that the authorities would be closing the access through HAC that the illegal "guides" have been using.

I'm hearing that what was the free public access near the CEA building is now 100 pesos or $5 US to enter and that people are looking for alternate ways to get there for free by going down the road by the tennis courts and cutting through properties there.

I’m at Las Casitas now. People (including big snorkel tour groups) have been using the private driveway to the destroyed houses just past Las Casitas as a free entrance to the beach.

And, yes, the access through HAC has been blocked to the public. Yesterday, the entrance through CEA was free.

    Ok this is the latest

    Akumal Bay beach access.
Currently, you can access to Akumal Bay via the entrance between the Akumal Dive Shop and the CEA building. The entrance is $5 USD or $100 pesos you can go directly to the CEA building, and you will have access to services such as showers and bathrooms. There are also lockers at an additional charge.
    Other snorkeling rules still apply.

Curious what is the situation if wanting to access Half Moon Bay with a car, not on foot, or drive in between HMB and Akumal Bay to eat or drink?

Can you still pull up and park behind Lol Ha and enjoy a meal there, and sit on the beach out front with any extra fees?

Not sure how that is going to be possible right now.

I will be at ABBWR next week.   I was hoping to go over to Turtle Bay, Super Chomak, etc. and I'm guessing that if I walk the beach to that area, I'll be able to exit the beach, but to get back to ABBWR, I'll either need to walk out to highway 307 and go south, or pay 5 USD/100 MXN to re-enter the beach and return that way.

    Do I have that right?

Similar story for people staying on the Half Moon Bay area - if they want to go eat/drink at Lol-ha, do they have to pay beach admission to get there?

Both seem ridiculous but that's how things have become.

As far as I can tell, other than a brief disruption on Monday, the car traffic is unaffected (keep your fingers crossed on this one!)

I am hearing that legitimate (not sure how that is defined but I assume HAC guests, Lol Ha customers, etc.) foot traffic is being allowed to enter the bay area (without paying the fee) by going down the road between Oxxo and the Loncheria, then going left.  There is a guarded entrance I've been told.

So there is so much contradiction out there its hard to tell what the truth is. My thing is if i just want to go and walk the beach i have to pay 5 dollars for a beach stroll ??

Just back in the States.  As of two days ago you can drive to the Lol Ha as mentioned above on the back, guarded entrance between OXXO and the Loncheria.  The only other access was through the turnstiles at the old CEA building/Dive Shop for $100 pesos.  Parking for those coming from Half Moon Bay is in the three lots, the one by Turtle Bay and the two on the road in from 307.  Foot access I guess is still questionable.  Really was a sour end to our 10 days there, especially when thinking/reminiscing of 1998 and into the first 5-10 years or so of this century.

Seconding the question from gerber! If my wife cannot shop at Mexicarte, I'll have a hard time convincing her to stay here again!!!

I walked to the arch area late in the day today.  I was able to get from ABBWR to the Oxxo and back and no one said boo to me.  I was able to get throught on the road between Oxxo and the loncheria/Super Chomak and come out by the Akumal Dive Shop.

May try it during the height of the day soon and see how it goes.

The area near MexicArte and Buddha Spa looks like Berlin in the 1980s.

Please try in the height of day.  I will be staying in Jade Bay soon and want to be able to walk to Super Chomak.......Sat./Wed market.......Turtle Bay......etc.
Certainly don't wish to pay $5 to walk back home.

El Gran Chico, just to be clear, I think you meant that you came out by the Akumal Dive CENTER, not Akumal Dive SHOP? The Dive Shop is the one next to CEA. The Dive Center is South of Lol Ha and near the Hotel Akumal Caribe. Thanks for letting us know.

You are correct Badger.  I mean the one by the Lol-Ha snack bar which was much emptier than I'd ever seen it.  BTW, there are large boards showing where you can and cannot swim and people with Profepa uniforms on.  The situation of word of mouth rules and who is official /who is not seeems to be resolved.
