Saw that on the news last night, so sad. I think Chacchoben  is the ruin we are going to visit in March with the Snorkelin' Fools. But NOT on a tour bus.

Very sad event. Went to that ruin site in March 2015. Well worth a visit to Dzibanche and Kohunlich in same area. MB

So sad !!  Awful for an accident like that to happen anywhere, but out in the middle of nowhere like that is really awful since there's no medical help anywhere close.

We love Mahahual, but every time we're there I just hope we never need medical assistance.  I see that statement by Costa Maya Mahahual mentioned "Mahahual-Hospital Costa Med".  In our 4 trips there (soon to be 5, then 6 in the spring) I had no idea there was a hospital.  I wonder if that is a generous name for the bldg where the ambulance is parked, that I think is kind of a clinic of sorts !!

We have had the same concerns about medical facilities. However, Cancun,Playa,Tulum and Chetumal, all have medical facilities. Chetumal is less than 100km from Mahahual, and I think is the largest city in the Yucatan. BTW, we have been going to Mahahual for many years and I did not know of the med facility by the port, have had no reason to go to the old duty free zone since everything closed up several years ago.

Yeah, sure the bigger cities have real hospitals........but, I'll tell ya what.....if I or my husband are  having a heart attack or appendicitis or whatever, that <100km will feel like a thousand miles !!  :-)

We've only been over "there" once.  We had lunch at DiVino's over there on our way out our 1st time down there, leaving to go back up north.  We drove over just to see the port, but it was a ghost town since no ships were in that day.  Lunch at DiVino's was great, though !!

Would be a worthwhile topic or perhaps a list somewhere on this website to list medical facilities, including dental, with address and ph # Hint admin
