Not Really A Trip Report, New Pix Added 2/25
This will mainly be photos, without a lot of commentary and probably mostly photos of food. Over the last 12 years of vacationing in the Riviera Maya my wife and I have done most all of the touristy things...ruins, snorkeling, zip lines, etc. and now our trips are mainly about relaxation. We do try to eat healthy food at home, but on vacation food for us is a big part of the experience and we will eat just about anything. Briefly, our vacation so far...arrived Monday, stayed 4 days at Hotel Del Sol on HMB, moved here to Puerto Morelos yesterday (Friday) and will be here until the 13th. Note: My laptop charger has been fading in and out, so I will post when it and time allows. Early sunrise our first full day on HMB. Breakfast our first morning was from what we call trunk food sold out of the trunk of a car on HMB We each had one chicken salbute and one ground beef empanada, yummy and cheap! Dinner that night at Cueva Del Pescador was arrachera for me And breaded fish for Babs One evening we had dinner at La Buena Vida where we ran into our old friend Arsenio who used to work at the Akumal Beach Resort I enjoyed the beef tacos And Babs loved her veggie quesadilla

Our old friend Wilbert with a pitcher of CDP's famous margaritas Some of you may remember Sergio who used to work at the ABR Sergio's two adorable granddaughters and grandson Every time we invite locals to dinner at CDP they all order the exact same thing, mixed seafood ceviche with extra habanero peppers added. Kinda funny watching Sergio's 18 month old grandson wolf down the spicy mixture.

We were told that Cueva del Pescador was going to be opening a second restaurant soon, since their one near Yal Ku closed. This one is in the Akumal Pueblo, at the beginning of the last block before you reach the end of the pueblo, on the right. One of the waiters told us it would be named Cueva Dos, not sure on that one. Also, one of the locals told us that they might have trouble getting a liquor license in this new location because it is so close to a school. A sunset on HMB And a rainbow, one afternoon after a brief shower

On our arrival in Puerto Morelos yesterday, our first stop was for one of Babs' favorite meals, Seafood Bisque at La Sirena And last night, I got to enjoy one of my favorite meals in PM, Seafood Mixiote at El Pesquero, a mix of shrimp, octopus and squid in a not-too-spicy sauce. And Babs had her El P favorite, breaded shrimp Dessert late last night in the square was the low-cal treat Churros con Cajeta The churros were made by this lovely lady, Dolly, who always greets us with a smile and a hug

Great talking to you guys earlier. I will be dreaming about those churros tonight. Any chance you'd be able to mule a jar of cajeta back to Wisconsin? Cindy

Dinner last night was at a new (at least for us) place called El Campanario, which features steaks and empanadas Dinner began with fresh, warm, crusty bread with herbed butter One of our appetizers, these cheese stuffed jalapenos My huge and very tasty T-bone, done perfectly Babs' Roquefort cheese and spinach empanada was big enough for two Total cost for dinner, including 2 apps and 3 margaritas was about $35 with a large tip. Another bonus was this big boy, Bruno, who is allowed to stay at the edge of the restaurant where I supplied him with a few treats

Thank you, Tooter. I didn't take a lot of photos yesterday, Babs made bacon, and banana pancakes for breakfast, then we went to Chedraui to stock up the condo. Later I walked to Caribelos to buy our lunch, tortas carne asada, less than $2 U.S. each. Our balcony, which also has a lounger near the opposite wall. For years Mexico has required cigarette makers to print some pretty graphic scenes on the cigarette packs in order to discourage smoking, but the one I saw yesterday may be the scariest one yet. The warning translates to "Smoking is a cause of impotency"

What a Monday morning treat! All my favorite stuff from all my favorite places. I am kicking myself for not getting some of that trunk food breakfast empanada action though. We were always up too early too take advantage. Next time. Did you watch the game alt La Sirena?

Nothing wrong with me that a margarita on the beach wouldn't fix.......................

Fantastic shots, Badger, thanks! Where was the street food guy set up in PM? And do you know if the nice ladies are still grilling chicken and ribs at their little place on Ninos Heroes? By the way, El Campanarios has got to be one of our favourite restaurants on the whole coast, great food, great prices.

Thanks for your comments everyone, much appreciated. Mike, street food guy's name is Roy, he sets up usually Mon-Sat around 7 am on Rojo Gomez, about 1 block South of the square. If you look at the photo, above his shoulder you can see a lady in the background, beyond her is a truck that is parked in front of the Catholic church. Not sure about the BBQ chicken, will try to get by there in the next couple of days. HG, El Campanario is in Puerto Morelos. In PM there are 3 streets that run North and South & parallel to the ocean, the one closest to the beach is Raphael Melgar, the next is Rojo Gomez, the 3rd Ninos Heroes. El C is on Calle Isla Mujeres, the first cross street about one long block South of the square, between Raphael Melgar and Rojo Gomez. Crunch, when we are going to eat the trunk food on HMB we usually eat something light around 7 am and then grab the street food around 9. I managed to find a live stream online to watch the Packers game, sometimes La Sirena can be pretty crazy during NFL games.

Dinner last night at Salciccium I had the Sausage Degustation (whatever that means ) A rather provocative presentation of the sausage, we thought maybe that's what Degustation means And Babs had a seafood mixture in pita bread

Thanks for the comments! Another photo of Roy's breakfast food truck, we've found the old adage is true, always eat at the places that the locals frequent In the afternoon we went to a couple of the local beach bars, this one is called My Paradise, usually great people watching And two-for-one margs at Unico Beach Club Happy Hour at My Paradise is from 3-4 pm daily and then Unico from 4-5. My paradise only includes certain drinks at the HH price, while Unico includes most, I think. Back to our favorite place for dinner, El Pesquero, where Babs had an amazing Shrimp Ceviche And I had one of my favorites, Felipe calls it the "skirts of the King Conch", not on the menu and only available at certain times, but when they do have it he always lets me know
