online tourist card

We are going back next week and did the online tourist card.  Does it need to be trimmed or just the big paper it is printed on?

El Gran Chico - I see you've been to HMB 9x.  Do you always stay in the same place?

If not, what are your favorite places? We are going to book for a trip in May and just wondering where you have stayed. We've stayed at a few but we like to try different places all the time.

9KrazyCats, once at Del Sol, 5 times to La Bahia, 3 times to Mirage.  We were happy with all of them.

I tried to fill out the form today for my trip in March.   It wouldn't accept my arrival date - I'm guessing it's their way of saying I'm doing it too soon.  Anyone had luck filling it out more than a few days in advance?

It can be a maximum of 30 days in advance from what I understand. Ours worked great last November at CUN.

Hi All:  Coming back for trip #8 to Akumal/HMB in February and saw this thread.
Is this the form you fill out one per family or one per person?
    Thanks much

Thanks.   I will try mine again in about 3 weeks.

    I also found this link:

That's the one per family at the same address customs declaration form.  I believe it can be filled in a few days before you go (I heard 3 days - no idea how accurate that is but I'll try it if I remember and have time before I leave)

Just completed the one per family for my trip down tomorrow (did the one per person a couple of weeks ago).   BTW, the one per family form defaults the Spanish.   You can change it to English in the upper right but the translation isn't that great.

I did ours on regular letter size. I thought I was being clever by printing it on cardstock because it would be sturdier and less likely to tear. When you get to the customs person,  they will fold it and tear it in half. Hint* DON'T do it on hard to tear cardstock.

Update to post 11 - the URL has changed for the customs form (assuming you need it - that's the one per family form, not the tourist card form).  We didn't need that one in T4 on my March 2018 trip - I filled it out and printed it, then tossed it out as no one wanted to take it from my unless I had goods to declare.

I've heard of some cases where people printed the online FMM (aka tourist card) and had it rejected because it was on 2 separate pieces of paper.  So you may want to make sure you print it double-sided and make sure the Entrada and Salida front and backs match up (easy to verify the salida half as the word "salida" appears on both the front and back)

We've been using the online FMM form now for several trips and they work just fine. A little hint, we use a small perforator which you buy at Michaels or Hobby Lobby or stores like that. A pic is below. By pre-perforating the form between the entry and exit portions the Immigration Officers really appreciate it. We have had very positive reactions from them by doing this. One officer told me she preferred the online forms as they are easily readable versus the hand filled in forms she often gets.

    Perhaps Kay can answer this

Is https://www.mexicotouristcard.com/ a proper government or 3rd party website

I  know this one is a correct MX  government website

Just wondering, what's the benefit of doing it on-line before you go? Don't you have time to fill it out on the plane? Thx!

Sometimes there is time- and sometimes they hand them out too close to when you land or sometimes you forget a pen and they don't have any for you to borrow and then you're scrambling....not that that has ever happened to ME ;-)

I just find it WAY more convenient then trying to fumble around in a small airline seat looking for everyone's passports and looking up the address of where you're staying.

I'm with you Nichole.   I try to take care of as much up front as I can.   One other thing is that the online form has a bar code that the officer can scan and have the information he needs on a screen instead of trying to read your handwriting.   For our party of 3, we were processed in about 30 seconds last year.

But, it's perfectly ok to fill out by hand on the flight down if that's one's preference.

One other thing - I've heard of people being on flights where the airline didn't have enough forms for everyone so people had to wait in line to fill out the form before heading to another line to have it processed.  I'd rather avoid that possibility altogether.

Just arrived today.  Lots of folks on the plane had used the electronic version.  I went old school and did the paper...but on my Sun Country flight from Mpls. they were short on paper forms and asked those that had done it electronically to let the attendants know so they could use their paper forms for others as they were short.  Highly recommend doing it online as others have said.
