Haven't been here for a while...looks like a lot has changed

We stayed at ABR back in 2015 and it was just under new management but nothing appeared to have changed.  I'm now trying to get pricing on them again through here and the link is broken.  I found the resort on other vacation sites but pricing is around $500 per day now.  We didn't pay nearly that much the last 2 times we've stayed there.  Is that due to the new owner/management?  Has the Secrets next door drove up the price?  Is it still as great as it's been previously or should we look at a bungalow/condo instead?  I would really like to hear from anyone that has stayed there recently.

It's all fancy now!  Just contact LG through this site and see if they have better prices because $500.00 for it is insane!!!!!

LG no longer reps for ABBWR (Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort) formerly known as Akumal Beach Resort (ABR). I know it still shows up in their accommodations hotel selection but that is all, the link is no longer valid and does not work.
The resort upgrade it's entire property to 5* level and as such the prices now reflect that upgrade. It now sells out many months in advance, and is also selling vacation club memberships (read: time share)

I'd go the condo route and cook breakfast in and eat at local restaurants for dinner or lunch. You can get a nice condo on Half Moon Bay for $80-$150 average a night for a 1 bdr. in low season.  Every time we've been we've stayed in a different one and they all were great.  We bike or walk to Akumal Bay  (it's warm, but good exercise and we are in our 50's) We stayed at ABR way back in 2008 or so and it was great then, but I would not stay now. Too much money and I'd rather eat local.

yes, package deals are the way to go when looking at ABBWR; big discounts when you book air and ABBWR together.

Hi, LadyBugg ! Haven't heard any thing from you in a long time! People just don't post on this sight like they used to? I sure miss the way it was a few years ago, this is where I learned most of what I know about the Roo!
Take care  , Husker

We got 10 days in Sept with rt air for 1300 each.  No where near 500 per night.  You have to use a consolidator and choose a package deal but it's still doable.  Not 80 a night, but, doable.  Technically it's still managed by some of the same people but they brought in a bunch of manager types from Bahia.  Some of the things they changed are not my favorites, like vacation club and pushing to get their names mentioned in trip reports but its all marketing so I get it.  Either way, there is still a lot of the old ABR.  The beach is still glorious.  The staff are still amazing.  The weather is still perfect.  Once upon a time the down sides were broken fixtures, sugar ants, leaks, and AC not working.  But it was still Mexico, so, it was okay.  Now, there are still some down sides but, it's still Mexico and it's still our home away from home.  Some things never change no matter how much paint and plaster you slap on it or how many new things you add to it.

We booked six days for September back in May.  Apple Vacations was the best deal at that time and we paid $81 a day for land only. It has been a year or more since we have been but we were very pleased with the improvements they made during the remodel.  The staff is their strong suit but we enjoyed the specialty restaurants and the new rooms.  The beach is still the best around!!

Hi guys, yeah we dropped ABBWR. We could not compete with the big online sites like Expedia, etc on rates.  So we dropped them.  Happy to help where we can with other places to stay, and we have a concierge so we can help with other aspects of your visit, that you may have enjoyed at the ABR.
