ATM's Available in Akumal

Plan on bringing cash, but bringing less would be safer/better. I found some older threads regarding ATM, just curious if the information is still accurate? Chomak and the El Pueblito market used to have ATMs, do they still? Are they a reliable source for funds, some have said that they tend to run out... Thanks!

Yes they are still there and yes the still run out of funds occasionally. Personally, we don't use them.  We've had too many friends get their accounts hacked that way. Cash is king IMO.

I use the "new" (maybe a year old if even) ATM behind the arch on the Las casitas side. It is a BANORTE ATM machine (bank owned) and charges $45 pesos per transaction. Pesos or Dollars.

It has only been out of service twice for me and I use it weekly.

Oh and it is air conditioned! :D

The Banorte ATM on the north side of the arch (you can't see it from the road, but you can from the basketball court) was being installed on our last trip (March 2016).

    In Mexico Mar 13 to 20, 2018 [18th trip to MEX, 14x to RM (1998 to 2018), 9x to HMB (2006 to 2016)]

Just wondering as this ATM has been around for almost a couple of years now - is it proving to be reliable?  Or is it often out of service/out of cash?

I would consider it still reliable. However, obviously it runs out of cash here and there. When it does, I go to the Pueblito to pull out pesos. The service charge is higher there but a good backup for the few times the Banorte does not have cash.

I used it on Monday and it has the cash I needed!    ATM fee was 46.28 peso (39.90 + 16% IVA) or about $2.50 US/ $3.25 Cdn at current exchange rates
