We have been down since Thursday and weather has been perfect. But this am it was sprinkling and we have been having a downpour for the last hour and half. They really need the rain though so it is a good thing :)

Hopefully it will be mild.
In the meantime, must get this laminated, if only to remember how to pronounce "PEE-tur"

"Por que no refrescarte?"

When we were there two years ago, our USA transfers driver told us the Mexicans prefer a wet early season because they believe if it is hot and dry it is more likely they will get a very big hurricane, when in rainier times if they get a hurricane it will be either a near miss or won't be too bad.  Not sure how this jives with weather predictions and patterns.

Oh, and woo hoooo!!!! SolMan is back updating us on the weather!!  Can't get any better than that.

Hope it's a slow one for the tropics. They need the break, and the severe weather outbreaks we've been having this spring have kept me on the road storm chasing.

Nice, V.S.!  Here's a similar one:

But I think I like your link more!

One professional met I know told me they actually use these regularly as a more intuitive way to analyze what's happening at different atmospheric heights.

Looks like things might be getting a little more active in the western Caribbean next week.

The GFS model forecasts a broad area of low pressure across the Yucatan. If this occurs it will likely increase easterly flow moving inland from the Caribbean. This would result in increasing wind speeds as well as intensifying shower and thunderstorm activity along the Riviera Maya/Costa Maya.

Given the amount of wind shear in the region, highly doubt it would be able to organize into anything stronger.

SolMan, I really appreciate your reports, and enjoy reading them whether I'm going soon, or not.  As it so happens, I'll be in Akumal in just 9 days, so I really, really appreciate them right now!  Thanks!

Thunder and lightening last night but only sprinkles. Foggy this morning but now beautiful clear blue skies with just a gentle breeze.

So looks as if the potential for deepening low pressure on the YP is in response to a broad area  of low pressure in the Pacific off the coast of Guatemala. NHC is watching it for development, possibly as early as tomorrow evening. Models move it north toward Guatemala and into the southern YP.

Meanwhile, it appears another low pressure system could set up in the southern Bay of Campeche, drawing in and intensifying easterly flow, resulting in 12-15 mph winds from Cancun to Belize.

As the two systems merge, significant showers and thunderstorms regionwide would be likely as pressure across much of Mexico and Central America drops.

In saw the Bay of Campeche possibility

Likely the reason all of the weather forecasting sites are predicting more rain

Negative on the Bay of Campeche spinup. False reading.  But it looks like the Azores High will intensify, resulting in intensifying wind and thunderstorms moving inland through the week. Computer models definitely win on picking up the outcome, but had trouble sorting out the source.

No significant or unusual weather expected in the next 24 hours. Winds and thunderstorms are likely as a series of tropical waves move ashore over the next few days.

No measurable rain in HMB the last 48 hrs. People coming in from the airport yesterday afternoon/evening said it was pouring in Cancun all the way to Playa del Carmen. HMB had high winds last night but they have calmed down a bit this morning, but the waves are still up. Sun is out for now. Clouds in the distance.
