Mexican ATM fees 2015

Just for people's information, the current fee at the Banamex ATM inside the Puerto Aventuras Chedraui is 30.74 pesos. The BBVA machine right next to it changes something like 33 pesos so obviously I chose the Banamex. I know it's just 3 pesos but this is part sport!

I hear the ATMs near the arch in Akumal charge more than couple this so I'm avoiding them completely.

Note that some people have accounts at home that refund these fees, but most don't.

    I used Banemex on my last trip and the fees were different in Tulum, PA and Isla
     
    Ranged from 23-30 pesos. HSBC was closest with 33+ peso fees
     
    Bancomer is much more expensive - around 50-60. Not sure about Santander

    The exchange rate is a function of international currency markets and your home bank's spread policies. For me, about 3% off the interbank rate which is pretty good (hard to get much better than that).

    i used the ATM in the market across from the chomac because it was out of money every time i went there i think it was el pueblito. It had a 2,000 pesos limit and had a 94 something pesos charge. Dont know what the exchange rate was. My bank refunds my fees and i get charged 1 usd for my transaction. So if you use this ATM i would draw out the max if your bank does not refund your fees.

    A 2016 update...
     
    1) the Banamex ATM at the PA Chedraui has the same fee as 2015, 26.50 + 4.24 IVA = 30.74 pesos
    2) the BBVA ATM in the bank branch in Tulum (ajancent to the San Fransico grocery store) fee is 22 + 3.52 IVA = 25.52 pesos

    3) while I was in Akumal last week, a Banorte ATM was installed on the north side of the Arch, facing the basketball court (hard to see from the road).  It's in an airconditioned booth.  It was operational the day I left but I didn't use it so no idea of the fee.  The long awaited bank-owned ATM in Akumal is here!

    A colleague has told me the ATM fees are way higher in 2019.   The BBVA ATM at the Chedraui now changes 81.20 pesos (70 + 11.20 IVA).   That's over 4 US dollars per transaction at current rates.
     
    BTW, a new thing is the ATM (this one at least) gives you a choice to convert into your home currency on the spot.  While it might be a convenience, I'm told the rate offered on the ATM was much worse than what most home banks would convert at.

    Banorte is still around 40 pesos
     
    Some ATMs are asking you a question if you want to use their exchange rate or the banks - say no to their rates (you are quite correct)
