Reputable and decent priced car rental place

Hi all,

I am needing to rent out a car once I land in Cancun. I haven't been down for 4 years so wondering if anyone has any suggestions on car rental companies with excellent prices? I have used Caribbean Rental, located a few miles from the airport in the past, but I see now on their website that they add an airport tax, however their location is not "at" the airport. Maybe all of them do that now.

It would also be convenient if I could drop off the car in PDC or Tulum instead of driving back to Cancun to drop off the car. Any suggestions will be appreciated! :)

I should have been born MEXICAN!

Rentadora Isis from PDC is great.  They will drop your car at the airport for you and you can drop it on PDC later.

I use Caribbean (aka America aka Cancun Car Rental)

They charge 10% extra for airport tax, but I found their prices less than Easyway and for my dates on par with Avant (even with the extra tax)

I have also dropped off the car at various other locations (PDC or Tulum)

ISIS is a great family trusted company but their prices are 25-40%+ higher  and do not have a 0 deductible collision  - - pricey

Avant is another one to consider

After scouring many reviews and threads, I've booked Isis in PDC for next month. I'm willing to pay more for a higher level of service, and a trustworthy company. I've already emailed a couple of times with Edgar and he responds very quickly, very politely, and we've not had any communication issues. It was important to us to have them bring the car to the airport and we drop it at the airport on our return - not go to their office. But their office is in PDC, so you could easily drop it there.

I also use a version of Cancun/Caribbean that was first done on Wifey's suggestion as above .

I prefer the America Car Rental website but all cars come from the same barn . The business is behind the old location at Plaza Santa Fe , so don't freak out . They also exist as Tulum Car Rental , as a return spot , but the last I knew the signage in Tulum said America . No car issues or tomfoolery in many trips .

Every trip America has offered the best rates which I research every time with better coverage than Easyway that is also suggested here quite often even with the airport fee .

Please be happy always

An FYI

Avant will charge an extra fee for zero deductable for collision
ISIS does not offer this option

Glass/tire  0 deductable is usuasally extra

I think you'll be very happy with this decision. Edgar and Isis were great to work with last November when we stayed in Puerto Morelos.

Hi there,
I have used Easy Way twice without incident. I found the price to be fair but make sure to get all of the insurance options to make sure you are covered. :)

Hope it goes well for you!   We used Easyway 5 times from 2009 to 2013.   Every trip went well, especially the 2013 trip where the pickup guy waited for us about an extra hour and a half or so due to our luggage issue (that is, it didn't arrive and we had to fill in paper work at the airport which never goes fast in Mexico ).

They seems to take a beating on this forum at some points in time.   Hopefully the issues have been worked out.

Last in Mexico Mar 12 to 19, 2019 [19th trip to MEX, 15x to RM (1998 to 2019), 9x to HMB (2006 to 2016)]

Ok folks.. here is my update:
My Easy Way rental was perfect, no issues whatsoever.  I asked for and got the social media discount, so my total for the week came to about $40 per day including all insurances, or about the same as or less than renting a golf cart in Akumal..

Pick-up was prompt and they got us on our way quickly .. my basic (because I am cheap) little standard Tsuru was fine, and good on gas. I appreciated the locking gas cap so that pump jockeys had to wait until I had my beady eyes on the pump before they could begin, and the trunk to keep our possessions away from prying eyes when parked.

I want to give very high praise to ISIS. We just rented from them for our recent trip to Akumal. First off, Edgar is very quick to return emails which I appreciate. He tried to match a quote I received from a similar agency, but couldn't quite make it work. So he upgraded the car instead! We got an intermediate car for $168, all insurances, for 4 days. I snagged it because:

1. I wanted someone to meet me at the airport with the car (no long lines or shuttles to take)
2. I wanted a rental that was all-inclusive of insurances - no hidden fees
3. I wanted to rent from someone reputable.

Our flight changed the day of departure, so I emailed him. He said no problem and came back that evening. We walked past the hoards of people at the rental counter and found Edgar waiting on us at the friends and family gate. He walked us to the car, filled out paperwork, showed us how to work the car (and pointed out a few minor dings - but I also took pictures), paid the parking fee and gave us directions to the highway. I can't even tell you how easy it was. It could not have been more than 10-12 minutes. Remember those people trying to get their rentals in the airport? I guarantee they were still in line while as we were already zipping down to Akumal.

The drop-off process was even easier. We told him we'd be at the airport at 9am and as we pulled into a front spot, a couple immediately pulled in right behind us. He looked over the car as she completed paperwork. It was less than 5 minutes and we were on our way. They were very kind and professional.

I can not say enough great things about ISIS. I will always rent from him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Isis is ok. Cars are a little older and run down. Aldo they don't offer 0 deductible.

Try Avant. They offer 0 deductible. They will also deliver your car to the airport or anywhere else you want. No shuttle needed at the airport. 10 minutes and you are on your way. They are honest and respond to emails.

I'm renting from ISIS later this month and they offer zero deductible for an extra $14.95 per day.

When we go to cancun I go straight to the airport exit door then take a hard left just outside and there are car rental reps. right outside the gate, tell them what I want and get the cheapest offer. Never have been disappointed. Our last trip I rented a economy car for 10 days and pd $250 total. What a deal! And great fuel economy.

I just got a quote from ISIS.

So can someone explain what this zero deductible add on is and why I do or do not need it?  Is it as simple as this:  without it, I could pay up to 10% of the car's value as the deductible?

I can't imagine these cars have a lot of value if there are a bit older rentals as others have described them.

Thanks.

Think of it like your own car insurance.  In the event of a claim (and remember that we are only talking about damages to the vehicle, not 3rd party liability), you may be required to pay the first $500 or $1000 before your insurance company kicks in.  You can also choose to have a zero deductible.  Many people opt for a deductible of some size in order to bring their premiums down.

Same principle on the rental car coverage.  You can choose to purchase insurance in Mexico to cover damage to vehicle with a deductible or without one.  Some rental agencies, as a marketing tool, advertise their rates inclusive of all insurances, and some take it the next step and include all insurances plus zero deductibles.

For me personally, I don't want to pay for Mexican insurance on the vehicle (but I sure as heck want 3rd party liability coverage!!).  I use my credit card company's included coverage for the vehicle.  Some folks will warn against that.  In some cases they may be right to do so.  I have a credit card with a sufficient limit to absorb the full cost of the vehicle, if absolutely necessary, which would allow me to leave the country and deal with my credit card's underwriter to claim it back.  I have spoken with them already and they reassured me that I would not have to do that (in other words, they would deal directly with the rental agency), but I'm covered even in a worst case.

In my case, I can get a much better rate by going with a rental agency that doesn't include coverage I don't want or need.

For your own piece of mind, you could request that they send you a copy of their insurance policies.

Hope that helps.

ISIS was already 30-40% over other companies without zero deductible

If you don't have it and they find any scratch  or coconut dent (Thomas knows this) then pay the price, time  delays, and try to get re-imbursment at home

quote: they reassured me that I would not have to do that (in other words, they would deal directly with the rental agency),

GOOD LUCK - I in 10 years of renting have never heard this

Liability insurance is mandatory

If you decline their collision insurance, your credit card should have a LARGE limit

I can only repeat what the underwriter (not the credit card company) told me.  I did, however, take it with a fairly large grain of salt and probably wouldn't chance it if I didn't have a decent limit available as a back up...

Because we are only taking 3rd party liability, I was able to get a full size (in as much as a Jetta 2.4 can be considered full size) automatic for a week for $215 (USD - all in).  For comparison, Avant quoted $470.
