"The state of Quintana Roo in Mexico, which includes Cancún, recently confirmed that they will change to a new time zoneduring the winter season, February 1 – April 4, 2015."

So let me get this straight...the time is changing to the equivalent of Eastern Time for just 2 months then it goes back to the equivalent of Central time?

I suspect they may make you get out of the airplane an hour before it lands?

My understanding is the change is permanent and there will not be daylight savings time.  Eastern Standard Time always.

my research is saying the government  of Q Roo has not yet decided on this change in April
I will say its fluid at this point , no ?
heres a link

http://www.timetemperature.com/tzmx/quintana_roo.shtml

and another  specific to Cancun
http://www.timeanddate.com/time/change/mexico/cancun

I believe the confusion is thinking of the Yucatan as a whole
were as this applies only to the state of Q ROO...

This is getting more bizarre by the day! Total ad hockery! If they move ahead again on April 5, that would sync QR with Mexico City for example (that is, QR always 1 hour ahead of DF), but create a 4 week period late winter/early spring (March 8 to April 4) where it will differ from the US/Canada Eastern Time zone. This is going to cause more problems than it solves for tourism.

This seems to also contradict most of what I was reading a month ago about QR always being UTC/GMT - 5.

Last in Mexico Mar 12 to 19, 2019 [19th trip to MEX, 15x to RM (1998 to 2019), 9x to HMB (2006 to 2016)]
