Too Late for Akumal?

My wife has had it in her mind that we would vacation in Akumal someday.  Last visited 4 years ago on day trip from Tulum.  Is it full-on beach nuts, all-inclusive, snorkeling tour hell?  Or is there still a laid-backness to it, maybe non peak?

We we stayed on HMB there the week of Easter '14 and your description pretty much nails how it was at the main bay that week.  I don't believe it is nearly that bad all the time though......right?

We were there (at ABR) during spring break last year.  Yes, it was busy by "old" Akumal standards.  However, it's still pretty laid back if you compare to the likes of Playa del Carmen.

Great distinction about the "non-peak" times...
You could also stay at South Akumal (quieter), and drive up for day-trips.  The LocoGringo staff would have some good recs if you contact them, I would think!

I don't know if there is an off season  now-   summertime?   You'll be surprised at the changes since you were last there 4 yrs ago.
Early mornings before 10am and evenings  (after 5ish)  are still quiet.  You have that bonus if you are staying on the bay.
