Grocery Stores

How does the San Francisco in Tulum compare to the Chedraui in Puerto Aventuras? Do they carry similar items and selections or does one offer more choices than the other? Are prices similar? Thanks.

I have shopped both and found San Fran bigger, more selection. Prices similar, perhaps cheaper at San Fran

I prefer SF even over the HUGE Chedraui store in Tulum

San Fran was my favorite until the Puerto Aventuras Chedraui opened (and mainly because PA is so much closer to Akumal).

    Last in Mexico Mar 12 to 19, 2019 [19th trip to MEX, 15x to RM (1998 to 2019), 9x to HMB (2006 to 2016)]

Yes. PA is 10 minutes away vs 20 minutes for San Fran/Tulum

    Thus we visit both

And always visit Alma and Marco at ITours across the street from San Fran - then down to the Tulum beaches or the many restaurants on the Tulum strip

imho, many better places to eat in Tulum than PA

I didn't realize PA was so much closer than Tulum.  I guess I would always think of going to Tulum first, since I know it better.  I really like both the Chedraui and the San Francisco.

If I would like to catch a collectivo from the San Francisco back to Akumal can I do that across the highway from the store? If I end up doing mega shopping and need a taxi instead will I be able to get one at the SF?

If San Francisco is on 307 then colectivos run back and forth on it quite frequently

If you buy very many groceries at San Francisco  (more than a bag or so) there is a taxi stand right in the store parking lot. That would be preferable to crossing the highway with bags of groceries, much less getting them into a collectivo. A taxi will also take you straight to your condo. A collectivo will only drop you off on the highway and you'll have to walk to your condo with groceries. If you go to either Chedraui you will also be able to get a taxi with no problem. Collectivo there and taxi back will save you a few bucks but a taxi both ways (they will pick you up at your condo take you straight to the grocery and wait on you while you shop) would be much more convenient and faster.

We always go into Tulum for brekkie or lunch on our SF grocery run. We wear our backpacks and stuff them with groceries. Then we run across the highway and catch a colectivo.  No problema

I hear that the San Francisco grocery store in Tulum is now a Super Aki store.
