Why does renting a condo have to be so HARD?

Hi everyone,

Apparently there are too many forums around for me to keep up.  I have been registered here for some time and completely lost it once my old computer died.  Anyway, my question for the group is "why is it soooooo difficult to rent a vacation home?"  Websites don't work; phone numbers don't work; when someone does answer they claim the calendar "that they are in control of" is wrong!! Maybe I am not figuring this out right..someone please at least attempt to set me straight :)  i am starting to take this personal

Have you contacted LocoGringo? We are renting a condo at Playa Caribe in April, and found them to be very responsive and helpful in choosing and booking the right place for our family. Give them a call or send them an email-- see what they can do for you!

I appreciate your help, I truly do, but I literally lost a reservation today which I had booked a week or so ago for 12/23-12/31 b/c an agent of BRIC (Blue Paradise) felt it was not important to let me know that a dance club with live music was literally underneath the unit they booked me.  This was a high end booking-penthouse suite w/ roof top terrace and all the trimmings.  It will be our daughter's b-day (turning 23 on 12/30) and our 30th wedding anniversary+ Christmas.  This would have been our first Christmas away from home ever.  Plane tickets and other expenses are paid-given our rental reservation.  I have spent this entire day (and probably will continue most of tomorrow) ferreting out the fake availability (95%) from the 5% true listings.  It is extremely frustrating.

BTW- I have already contacted LocoGringo-they were upfront and honest-they have nothing available.  I have been to the riveria a few times and know of no other agencies to contact (the ones mentioned above; North American standards; a bunch of "playa....." agencies; VRBO attempts to contact true owners....its a mess.

You do realize that the condo market is very busy at Christmas, no?

And that you are trying to book a mere 4ish weeks in advance?

We are going to a condo in Puerto Morelos this Thursday and we booked it last April and are already booked for a Cozumel condo in May, 2015.

More and more people are switching from AIs to condos and it can get a bit competitive.

I hope you are able to find one and end up having a great trip.

I agree with what Maryf says.  Give Loco Gringo a chance.  The company's staff all live around Akumal, including the owners, so they know the properties very well.  They've been doing business there for over a decade, I think.  Give them a shout, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

He said he already contacted LocoGringo and they had nothing.  I think it's just too late to try to book over Christmas - that wouldn't surprise me.

Tomas is right.  I think more people are looking for tranquility and switching from AI's.  It is just too late to be looking for a Holiday Season condo rental.  Our condo has been booked since last January.

Wow, sorry about your rental falling through.
I'd use Loco Gringo based on good experiences, too... But know you've called LG already and things are full.
So, I checked online for you at a site up the coast in Puerto Morelos... didn't see anything online but you might get a real person at least who may have some idea (can't message you for some reason; since you're in extremis, in this case will say search for "Abbey del Sol Puerto Morelos"). Good luck!

Our first trip to Akumal was in early January (many years ago).  I knew nothing about the area except that a friend had told me I would love it.  We decided one snowy morning to go and wanted to arrive the next day.  Duh.  We had to change our priorities and we were able to get a hotel room at Vista del Mar at the last minute.  We left that afternoon for Reno and flew out the next morning.  Is it possible that you can rent several hotel rooms and still have your fun time in Akumal/Half Moon Bay?  Just a thought.  It was not luxurious, but, we had such a great time, we bought our condo before leaving.  Keep trying.  You can make it happen.

Hi Midsouth - I sent you a PM but not sure if it went though as it's not in my sent folder.  Search for "Quintana Roo" on the most reputable vacation rental sites and put your dates in - quite a few units come up.  Locogringo is the best but this may help you out since they are not finding anything in your time frame.
