UPDATE: ABR Beach Bar & ABR Buildings

EDIT: We saw LG member Hoppybrewer yesterday in Puerto Morelos, he said that he walked by the ABWR a couple of days ago and was told by an employee that the "Beach Bar" will in fact be a Sushi Bar. I don't know if this means that there will still be a replacement for the Moonrise Bar or not. Guess time will tell.

We took a walk by the old ABR today and I'll try to post more photos when I can, but s-l-o-w upload speed is a problem. However, this is a photo of the early construction of the new beach bar, location is directly in front of building 5 and the swimming pool, near where the animacion hut used to be. I'm guessing the entire structure will eventually have a palapa roof over it. I am a little conflicted by the location (too near pool full of screaming kids?) but at least there will be a beach bar again.

Wow that is a strange place for it I figured it was going to be down by building six and seven would make more sense.
More pictures would be great.

I hope they don't ruin the entertainment value by putting rails around the deck.

Rock on, Badger. Gracias!

If it's not level, well then, that should provide the entertainment.  I can see it now...

Don't want to be the doubter debby (kinda like negative nancy)  However, Ima not likin' it.  I'll take my own tour in a couple of weeks.  Pretty sure there will be tears and I don't have the history at ABR that many more of you have.  If there truly is strength in numbers perhaps we can all book the new ABR ( and wellness la la la,  whatever it's called, I don't remember at the moment.) and scare the heck out of the Secrets folks.
Convince them not to go there any more.  (Yeah, good luck with that one, right?) I'm bringing HEM and we'll see how much damage we can do.
Hasta.
Badge, keep up the good work.  Love it!!
Deb

Tomas, once again I believe you are my brother-from-another-mother, I said the same thing to Babs about leaving the railing off.

Yes, Sundawg, they are building the 4th floor on to the old building 5, seen in the background. New bar is actually very level, previous photo was operator error.

Build out of building 6 ground floor is mostly complete. work continuing on second floor  build out and 4th floor expansion.

Close up of building 6 construction

This shot is looking in across the main bar from the beach, looks like new rather narrow palapa covered walkway will extend all the way to building 5, more new palapa framework can be seen in far right of photo.

A rather blurry photo of the new framework seen on far right in last photo.

Couple of other notes... Security guards are still working and chased us out of a palapa we had gotten under during a brief rain shower. I had to ask permission of an ABR employee we know to get the close up photo of the new beach bar.
They are also STILL doing snorkel tours, but the people have to walk all the way down the beach from Akumal to use palapas and loungers at the ABR, no sign of food or drink being served to them.

Also, we were told that there will be two new pools in the same area where the old pool was/is, and another new pool somewhere near buildings 6&7.

1run, I think so, but it is difficult to tell since all of the totally new buildings are contained behind the green fence that includes the new Secrets.

WOW! Much more renovation than I thought. I can't BELIEVE what building 6 looks like during the rework.
Looks like it will be completely different.
Gracias, Badger!

Maybe a bunch of partying LGers will keep the screaming kids away from the pool?

Nice to see this, will take my own pics in less than a week!

Its all looking pretty good ! Good to see that the money made on the sale of the north end of ABR (or at least some of it), is going back into it.

Gracias Badger,
I'm so glad there will be another beach bar regardless of the location. I'm hoping it will have swings again.
I'm a swing kind of guy.
Peace, Bimmy

Badger thanks for being brave and taking on security.  Pictures are wonderful.
I too am very happy to see a beach bar coming back.  I wonder why the elevation is so high?  I like my toes in the sand, "beach bar".  Hope I don't fall off just to feel the sand, not a good thing for a fat boy.
