Documentation - Pet Travel?

For those that have actually brought a dog/cat into Mexico and back out again, can you tell me what documentation you had to have?  I'm getting mixed answers from my vet and different websites.  It's one thing to err on the side of caution and get everything we need, but some of these forms have a fee ($40-50) to get them signed/endorsed, and if I don't need them, I hate to spend the money.  I can't figure out what's needed and wonder what those do that have actually traveled with their pet?  Our vet is little help; she doesn't have a client that has taken a pet to Mexico.  She's wanting to fill out all of the forms, send them to the state USDA office for endorsement, etc..... Easy for her, it's not her money!  And even then, different websites say to have different forms endorsed by the USDA office....

Thanks!

Of course our experts here in this matter are Hallnass and Turdle.
Are you on Facebook? That would be the quickest way to get answers from them. And those answers will be spot on.

Your airline is no help?  That's who I would be checking with first.

Sherry, the airline has their regulations, what they need to have to let the dog on board.  And their website directs you to Mexico's consulate website, or some such thing.....all in Spanish, and no help what so ever.  I called the airline to make our dog's "reservation" on the flight   and asked about it, but the person on the phone really wasn't helpful, and I hate to take what they say and go with it....and get there and be denied entry.  I figured it would be best to ask someone that has actual experience - even my vet was unsure what to do, but then she's a little country vet and has never had a client take an animal out of the country.

Thanks FWFrog - I was able to get a copy from Turdle of her document; our vet already has it so we're ready to get it signed the week before we go.

I appreciate the offer.

U will also need NEW docs from MX to take the animal out. Mine were in Spanish and the US customs agent was like.....I can't read this!!! Lol I was in Mexico!

Make sure ur paperwork has noted heart worm and flea treatments. Mexico is not real good are recognizing a 3 yr rabies vaccine ...so be ready for that conversation.

A copy of the vaccination record from the vet will prove ur dates.

In about a year and a half I'll need all this info.  Keep me in mind, please!  No airline will be involved, as we'll be driving down for a few months.  Sure don't want to have to leave our Lab in Brownsville!

The forms we use to get our dog into Mexico also get her back into the U.S., since we will only be there 10 days.  I'm not sure what the time limit is; I think if you're going to be there for an extended time you do need to have the paperwork re-done before you come back to the states though.

True. Turdle and Hallpass take their fur kids to a vet in Tulum before they head back to the states.
