I've seen them on Isla Mujeres but the cart was right by the ferry, so no parking. Sure wish they had them down in Akumal.

Jamie, actually I think I saw a cart set up in Akumal a couple Sundays ago. Not sure if they were there just for the day.  But keep your eye open.

I have them every time we go to Merida. There seems to be a cart on every corner during the week, and a bunch of them all over around the square on Saturday and Sunday. They are great if you are a cheese and caramel freak like me. Glad to hear they may be coming to Akumal now.

That would be great if someone opens up a marquesita cart.

My kids love these with Nutella and caramel, no cheese.  They say the best are on Isla Mujeres but have also had them in Puerto Morelos and Tulum.

Great thread Kay! Yes, we saw them on a Sunday in Akumal a few weeks back, the stand was set up just past Chomak towards Hwy 307. We didn't try them there, but we always get some when we are in Puerto Morelos. This stand sets up in the town square in the evening, always selling marquesitas and on certain nights they also make churros, my wife's favorite.

A marquesita on the grill, definitely try one with the cheese and your choice of sweet topping.

Babs with a marquesita

And here with a plate full of  freshly made churros drizzled with Cajeta, a delicious caramel like syrup made from goat milk. Yum! We decided that if you eat them while they are still warm, that they then have zero calories.
