This poor, sad, sweet boy has been abandoned by his owner and would LOVE to have a little sister to play with. He is a pure bred Golden Retriever of the "English Cream" variety. Just sayin'.

That Sophie is a looker!
we are having our 1st pool time this afternoon.
The dogs were supposed to be groomed the day before we came home, but they forgot somehow. They got them in this morning and were refusing to charge us. We finally compromised at paying a reduced rate although we wanted to pay in full. It was an honest mistake and we love them.
the dogs were less than pleased though😁

Good evening all.  65 and partly cloudy, but I think 70 was reached when the sun broke out earlier.  Got the new zip ties, chains and hanging baskets done on deck today and neighbors helped me move the patio set from garage to deck. Galen was nice enough to adjust the new chairs so there was more of a rocking motion.  Mary Jo wanted to make a trip to a huge local nursery close by so she picked me up at 2 p.m. and we went a shopping.  I bought some really cool plants stands to get my ceramic pots off the deck floor, new mini-LED light strand to replace the former rope lighting hidden in the valance, and six pots of fireglow sedum.  Lost about half of my sedums in my perennial garden out front two years ago.  No longer able to get the tri-color or variegated October Dephne on the right sight of garden.  Plants already in the ground with a starter solution and watered in good.  Done for the day other than some dinner.  Couldn't get the container of rabbit scram open....dang.  Hopefully hang the LED lights tomorrow.

Badger, that is one beautiful dog.  Hope all works out and Sophie has a new best friend.

Cindy, Sophie is adorable.  Makes me want to smother her with cuddles.  No plans to move anytime soon.  Just wanted to get an eval on my home with the current market and check out that free standing townhouse which was actually a tad bigger than my home.  I always like to be open minded and expand my knowledge of potential opportunities.

Bernie, speaking of which.  No plans to move out of state at this time.  Future home projects are strictly for me and not resale with no time constraints.

Hola Mapes.  Hope you and Sweetie had a lovely day with the young-ins.  Quite the play set for the girls.  Beautiful.  I understand that folks are using the shredded rubber nuggets as well under those play areas.  I moved from mulch to the rubber nuggets a few years back.

Holly, nice picture of the gals in PoMo.

UpHill, hope you and Laurie had a safe and smooth travel day and welcome back home.  Thanks again for the amazing underwater experience and your mini travel updates.

PJ, I meant to comment earlier on your beautifully intentional loving gift to the young lady that lost her Father.  I'm so glad you were there to comfort her.  You are a very wise and loving person.  Like others have said....she will never forget the love and comfort you provided.

Crunchie, glad all is back to normal at home with the newly groomed dogs. Enjoy your long weekend chica.

Jamie, it is a learning curve with the smart phones, TVs and all the other technology that just keeps coming.  Sounds like you are taking it into stride the best you can.  Glad you have a neighbor that can help out.  Hugs.

Edit:  Bought a new humming bird feeder the other day and filled up both of them.  Was sitting on the deck briefly and saw my first sighting.

Signing off as I just lost some of this post. Have a beautiful evening.  Sama, MB.

Howdy and good morning everyone.

Weather service giving heat warnings today but the beach should be just a little cooler. Current temp is 77F at 7:22 with a high of 90 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Tomorrow maybe to mid 90's

Yesterday I went to Fibber McGees for lunch. It was a little too windy to sit outside so I relaxed inside at the cooler bar. Of course, since I was sitting at the bar, a gin & tonic went perfect with my chicken fingers. hee, hee. After lunch I filled up the truck at the Lowe's Food station. I had purposely let my tank go a little lower than normal as I only needed to spend a few more bucks to hit 20 cents off a gallon; Saturday's grocery shopping at Lowe's Foods did the trick. I was able to fill up at $ 2.34 per gal which made the normal $ 2.54 a little less painful. Still, there was no fun to pay the $48.50 fill up total.

Finally finished the decorative rocks around 5:50 yesterday. I'll go snap a picture shortly. Didn't feel like a beach walk yesterday. This long Memorial Day weekend brings the crowds out and many drive from larger populated cities like Charlotte and Raleigh. I'll see if I feel like fighting the traffic on the island; parking spots fill up fast.

Beautiful dog, Badger. What is the story about his owner ? His eyes look so sad.

Pool time, Crunch. Whee ! Do your puppies like to play in the pool ?

MB, I don't think I mentioned moving, did I ??  I believe it was Cindy that asked about that. At any rate, no harm in looking at other places. You have a big lot to take care of and I'm sure you remember this past Winter. Ugh.  Would make me start thinking about a warmer climate if I had to go through all that snow and cold every year. That was a big motivating factor when I left Colorado.

Hi Jamie. I'm hot sure I would want to try a smart phone. Good luck with your new one. Thanks for the complements on the Lillie Mae plus my new little crape myrtle.

 Coffee time done.
See y'all later,
Bernie

Morning all
It rained overnight but I thought it was supposed to be sunny today...NOT.

Heard yesterday regarding my Chevy HHR vehicle...$896.00!!!  Apparently its some engine relay ION thingy??  Its an ignition something and I think it a bit strange that my car also had that ignition recall problem that caused the car to die while driving.  I'm going to do some research and probably complain to the Chevy Zone office because my car has under 58,000 miles.  Last time I drove it, it was fine.  Next time it was dead in the garage.  Doesn't seem right.  I thought about selling it and buying something newer recently.  Sorry I didn't.  Been looking at the Lexus 350 crossover.  Its small like mine.

Yesterday I worked around here getting the patio set up.  Bernie has reminded me how much I like Crepe Myrtles.  I have a couple of bare spaces along the fence where the Pampas grass didn't take hold. I might go look for some today.  I have a potted banana tree that needs repotting and separating the babies as today's project, although it's probably going to rain soon.

Badger, that's a beautiful white Golden.  Did you take him in temporarily?  I regret not getting another but I'm partial to the dark Gold color aka RED.  I hope C & C take him so I don't feel compelled to make the drive.

Enjoy Sunday.

Good Morning
Home from church.
We're definitely taking him, Twirley! Meeting half way tomorrow. Previous owner called him Joe. Dumb name. But I think we'll call him Joey. (Dumb for a dog, not for you, Bosco!)
Sophie has been a wild child today. Got some grass cut yesterday, but so thick from all the rain; huge swaths of clippings. Sophie kept grabbing mouthfuls, and then I'd have to fish them out. Sharp little puppy teeth! Yowza.

Today we have a road trip to Kiel, Wi. Chris' college roommate is finally retiring for real. He's a GP, and for the last couple of years has been down to just a couple a days a week, but decided he wants more time to travel with new GF. (wife passed away in 2017) Son Matt and Keri are joining us; Mike is Matt's Godfather. I believe all the dogs will be coming with us.

Hope you get some satisfaction from Chevy, Holly. That's just not right.
Have a wonderful day!
Cindy

Gorgeous morning here.  High temps in 90s.  Nice strong breeze.  Life is good!
We had no big plans for this weekend.  SJ is mowing and weed whacking in between naps in his chair on the porch to cool off.
Just enjoying his long weekend at home.  Doesn't want to take the boat out on the river.  Too many other boats this weekend.
I am just up to no good.     Doing the wash.  Hanging some of it outside.  Bit of cleaning up around the house.
Clearance shopping for new bedding.  Our linens are getting pretty old.  Plus need a deep pocket fitted sheet.
Planning September trip to Biloxi, MS.  Have some free nights at the Beau Rivage resort/casino.
Their pool area is gorgeous.  Didn't get near enough time there last June on the way to NOLA.
Still, want to go to Ship Island.  Drive along the gulf coast to Bay St. Louis.  Let SJ eat crab legs until he pops!
On the way home, buy another a cooler full of shrimp and fish to put in the freezer.
SC and her BFF Heather might join us for a couple of nights.

Bernie,  nice work getting the Crepe Myrtle bush planted.

Loving the pics of pups and rescue dogs.   Making me think about getting another.
SJ wants me to wait until he retires.  As he wants the new dog to bond with him.
Not be a mama's baby.  LOL

Cindy,  just saw your post.  Congrats on the adoption of Joey.  He looks like a very good boy
who wants to be loved.  I know you and Chris will give him a great home.
LOL On Sophie and the grass clipping.

Everyone have a wonderful day!

Good Morning Dog Lovers, It's Memorial Day.

The Joey story....

Some of you will remember our friend Theresa, whose husband John passed away a year ago in March? She lives in a rural area a few miles from town and whenever I have some time to spare she has numerous projects around her home that I have been working on. A couple of weeks ago while I was working outside this beautiful Golden started showing up and watching me work. He would just sit there with this sad look on his face, like he wanted someone to pay attention to him. I petted him and gave him a couple of treats and he just seemed so sweet. But Theresa has a 3 month old Labrador pup, which at the time had not been spayed yet and Joey has not been neutered, so when she brought the pup out to play she would tell Joey to go home. He would immediately turn and walk back towards his home, but then stop & watch Theresa throwing the ball for her pup. It was so sad to watch. Babs and I love Golden Retrievers so I asked about the dog and Theresa said that he was a year and a half old and had been bought by an elderly neighbor lady, who had recently passed away. But it seems her husband does not like dogs and each day he puts Joey out and lets him fend for himself all day.  The poor thing then spends all day wandering the neighborhood looking for someone to play with. She had heard that some of the neighbors had reported the dog to the local animal control officer multiple times. The animal control lady is a friend of ours so I called her and asked about the dog and she said it was a sad situation but there wasn't much she could do except to tell the man to try to keep him in his own yard.
Meanwhile Theresa had talked to another neighbor who had heard that the man just wanted to get rid of the dog. So I called Cindy and asked her if she was interested and she immediately said "Yes!". (Yay, Cindy!!)
I then asked Theresa to see if she could get the man's phone # so that I could call and ask about taking him. Theresa did one better by going right to the man's house to ask him. The guy then told her that he had paid $800 for the dog and no, he did not want to get rid of him (from what happened next I think he was hoping that someone would buy the dog from him).  So then I had to call Cindy back and tell her that we could not get the doggie for her.  I believe it was later that day that C&C went to the shelter where they rescued Sophie. Meanwhile I told Theresa that if she saw any signs of Joey being abused to let me know because I would probably have to perform an intervention and Joey might mysteriously disappear to a better home.
At this point I have to add that Babs was well aware of what was happening and wanted me to bring Joey here to join our pack, but our big Golden Raji is very protective of Babs and I didn't think bringing in an unneutered male here would go well. But at least we had a backup plan. (Twirls, you were backup plan #2.).
And then, the very next day, after letting C&C know that the dog was not available and knowing that they had already rescued a pup, imagine how I felt when I got a call from my animal control friend saying the guy had just surrendered the dog to her at the shelter!!
The only thing I could think of to do was to make an appointment with a vet to have him neutered and then bring him home and hope that he and Raji could get along. But I did call Cindy to let her know what had happened and to my surprise and delight she said she wanted to talk to Chris first, but she was still interested in taking the dog! (My heroes!).
So, hopefully, all's well that ends well and Sophie and Joey will become friends and C&C will have a great companion. I got a key to the dog shelter from my friend and Babs and I have gone there several times to take Joey for a walk and he just loves seeing us and seems so mild mannered and well behaved. Only problem is that when we have to bring him back to his kennel he stops at the door and I have to pick him up and force him inside.
But, today is FREEDOM day for Joey, and Babs and I are meeting C&C downstate at Noon and I can't wait to see Joey's reaction and C&C's.
C&C, thank you, thank you!
I've got to try to remember to take some pix.

So looking forward to meeting Joey! Sophie got to meet Edwin and Monty yesterday and loved racing around with them, although she was a little intimidated at first. We decided (thankfully) that taking them all with would be chaos, so the dogs stayed here while we went up to Mike's retirement party. Was a fun day. On the way home did a drive-by of son's new house purchase; very nice, but first order of business for him after closing will be mowing. Front lawn is a mass of blown dandelions. Previous owners have been out of house for 2 weeks now, Matt does not close until the 31st. But after some fresh landscaping, house will have great curb appeal.
Just now had to pause and put Sophie out on lead attached to the clothes line pole. She had become fascinated with the laptop cords and power strip. Do not want a case of curiosity killed the laptop. Or a shocked Sophie. We will take her with to meet Joey.

Better get moving, need to get on the road to meet up with Paul and Babs. First job is to get Chris up and moving!
Have a wonderful day!
Cindy

Howdy and good morning everyone.

Sun is shinning brightly this AM and another great day for the beach folks. Our current temp is 74F at 7:12 with a predicted high of 92 degrees. Weatherman says 90's all this week.

Yesterday I had a short stack of two pancakes for breakfast at the Dog House. I had planned to do a beach walk after breakfast; had my big 'floppy' hat and sunscreen in the truck but my normal parking spot was full. Drove a little further North and same thing. I gave up and went home. Not to worry though, I'll wait until tomorrow when most of the tourist will be gone. Time to make weekends a no beach event and walk around the neighborhood instead.

Today I will chill out mostly inside the house paying bills. Also will order two more 'My Pillows' for when John and Meredith arrive with the kids. That will give me 4 pillows for the two guest beds and the adults can choose between soft or firmer pillows. The kids will get the leftovers. Hee,hee. The only small task planned for today is to put the stickers on the boat and trailer. One vessel registration for each side of the boat from the NC State Wildlife Div. plus one sticker for the license plate of the trailer from the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Holly, bummer on the engine control relay for your Chevy HHR. I agree that part should last longer than it did. Of course, your dealer will say it is an electrical part and probably only covered under the first 12,000 miles warranty. Good luck, although you might just have to "bite the bullet".

Thank you, PJ. The worst part of the job was pulling the dead palm tree out and getting it into the wheel barrow. Glad Chet was there to help me.  I don't blame SJ one bit on saying 'no' to boating over this long holiday weekend. Smart man.

Badger, your story about Joey made me shed a few tears.  Big kudos to you and Babs for saving him.
Very happy he is going to a new good home.

I was crying after reading Joey's story.  So glad everything worked out.  I don't understand why people have dogs or kids when they really don't want them.
I think Sophie will definately benefit from growing up around her big brother.

Nothing much going on here today.  Maybe some pool time.  Looks like the storms may stay north of us.  Storms and warnings are already active and moving.

Chris was irritating me terribly yesterday.  He whines about every little bump and cut he gets.  He picked 3 tiny strawberries about 1/2 ripe and brought them in so the birds didn't eat them!  I'd rather the birds ate them than pick them like that!  He has started telling me HOW TO DO THINGS!  I'll listen to any ideas people have but I don't want to be TOLD and have someone act like they know so much more, particularly about things I've done a lot of, like gardening!   His constant chatter while I'm trying to watch or listen to the TV is annoying. I have to break him of that habit.   I finally got on him so he spent part of the day in his room.

I did get 2 crepe myrtles yesterday.  Chris went with me and was supposed to find the Japanese beetle traps while I picked out the plants.  He tried to help me pick plants!  First, he couldn't find the crepe myrtles.  He had to look at the tags to identify plants.  I knew where they would be from shopping at that store for years, so I went straight there.  Then he tried telling me what kind I wanted.  NO. He was arguing that they were shrubs and he was looking for trees!  All Crepe Myrtles are shrubs and if you want tree form, they have to be pruned and shaped as such.  If I went to a fancy nursery and paid a fortune, I could probably find some like that but I didn't.  I was just looking for the best ones to start the process of pruning them to the shape  I wanted.  I've done this before.   I gave him THE LOOK!  He finally shut up, got the bug traps and loaded the car!
He's a blessing for many things but a PIA for others.  Just like most men!

You all enjoy the Holiday and remember the fallen.

Good morning BCers!  Another gorgeous day on the hill.
Loving this weather!!  It is warm but the strong breeze is wonderful.
Perfect for sitting on the porch watching birds come to the feeders.
Getting 3 different types of woodpeckers.  One of them is so big he has to stand on top of the feeder.
Too tall to stand on the ledge.

Badger,  from the picture of Joey with such sad eyes.  Thought that he was much older.
So happy that C&C are making him part of their family.  Having a feeling the sad look in his eyes is going
to change to bright and happy real soon.   Going to be getting lots of love and attention.  Sure is a handsome boy.
Bless you, all for coming to his rescue.

Bernie,  enjoy the beach tomorrow.  Same here river, park and beaches overrun with boaters and campers.

BeachBilly,  as long as I stay away from the slots.  Just enjoy the pool area.  Beau Rivage should be fun.
Can't help but think that MGM would like that $900 back.

MB,  please take pictures of your deck with new furniture and flowers.  Would love to see it.
Sadly I have hardly even started on our porch or 2 decks.  Most of the furniture is still in the garage.
Still, need to buy more flowers.

Everyone have a wonderful day!

Good morning and a day to reflect.  55 and rain.  2-3" expected.  Got a lot done yesterday.  Got the lawn cut and got some more patio furniture out of the crawl space.  Decided to tackle cleaning the Weber charcoal grill.  That was quite the mess but much better now.  Also cleaned the mini Cusinart charcoal grill.  Hope to do a lot more grilling this summer and enjoy my newer outdoor living space.  Hung the new mini LED light string in valance.  I somehow managed to change the lights from steady to flicker mode.  I will fiddle with it tomorrow when the rain clears out.  Grilled some pork chops last evening.  Was a top ten weather day and it felt great being outside the majority of the day.  I slept in this morning till 8.  Nothing on my agenda today.  '70s and sunny by the end of the week.

Badger, thanks for sharing Joey's story and being a strong advocate for his well being.

Cindy, so excited for you.  Joey will now get the love he's deserving of.  Can't wait to see some pics of Sophie and her older brother.

Bernie, enjoy your day of rest.  Now I am hungry for pancakes.

PJ, sounds like a fun trip to look forward to this fall.

Twirls, good luck dealing with Chevy.

UpHill, that's a nice way to remember your adventures.  Cool idea with the dated plaques.  Do you have a special place in your home to display them?

Make it a great day everyone.  MB

Here is where I hang them:

There are some empty spots that need filling in on that false beam.

Today is turning into a lazy day, though I did get all the windows washed. I may have to run to the grocery store to restock the fridge. Still a little listless, should be back to normal tomorrow. I'm thinking I need to get the BBQ grill out and the kayaks....

Lovin life,
Bob
