Bob, sad news about the loss of a skier. Same thing happened here the other day but it was a 30 year old. Rumour has it he hit a tree. I haven't down hill skied since I had my knee replaced 14 years ago but it seems almost everyone wears helmets anymore.,

Barata, I haven't heard any more details about the death. It is a .... well.... just a fact of skiing. You are correct, just about everyone wears helmets these days. I have 2 for me (One for real cold days) and a bin full for my grandkids. They are lightweight and comfy, and warm.

What is interesting is that some people seem to think we are strapping a Sherman tank to our heads. They are limited in the protection provided. There is a big hole in the front for your face, so doing the Sonny Bono into a tree, it won't be much help. They provide protection up to 8 MPH. I regularly ski at 50 MPH, comfortably. What the helmets do is provide you something, to give you just an edge. For example, if I fall while skiing, and I have done it at well over 50 MPH, my impact with the ground was .... I'm going to say, less than 8 mph, due to it being a bit of a glancing blow at that speed. (I hit some ice and my skis came out from under me.) Bear in mind that while I was moving forward at 50 mph, my head was heading to the ice at, well, falling down speed. It worked exactly as designed. I rolled over, stood up and skied off.

Another case involved my son, and I can still see it in slow motion. Circa 1998, we are driving to the ski resort and the boys asked if they really had to wear helmets. I said, let's see, you're going snowboarding, yeah you gotta wear helmets. We were skiing and saw a border X racing starting gate set up on a knoll off to the side of the trail. The boys wanted to start a race out it. I looked around, no ski patrol, gave them the thumbs up and the boys hopped up there on their snowboards and took off! Next trip, they rode their boards up the knoll to the gate and did it again. This was repeated several times, but... they were scraping the snow off the knoll and exposing some ice. My middle son hit that ice, slid right into the gates, grabbed hold with one hand to stop or slow himself, was almost stopped as he spun around and whacked the back of his head on the gates. He broke his thumb, but walked away.

Helmets are good, and I certainly believe in them. But I also realize I'm not strapping an indestructible tank to my head. Many... most, deaths on the mountains involve people who were wearing their helmets. They certainly help, as I have just testified, but they don't do everything.

Speaking of skiing....

Have a great day all!

Lovin life,
Bob

Cindy--That is the way I tried first with the oils.  Dropper full under and on top of my tongue.  Nothing.  Then tried the salve directly onto my feet 3 times a day. Nothing.  Read that it doesn't work on some people.  Nothing apparently works on Frank

How old are the grandkids?  I was thinking DiDi was a year older than Kayden which would make her 3.  Correct?

am so sorry Bernie.  Glad you are going to see Lilli Mae right away.

Bobski - seems like a helmet + common sense are the best protection. Glad you have both.

Nipper - gorgeous pictures as is Soso's.

Barata - what great news.  Have a blast!  Do they think anything is wrong or just normal all the way?

Brrrr C&C.

Badger - I enjoyed reading about what that lady did for all of us women.

Frank - is the cold aggravating it? I am still watching for any new breakthroughs for your condition.

MB - hope you are doing better and hope your doctor visit goes well.

Jamie - what did happen? Hopefully all is ok.

If I forgot anyone my apologies.  Got to run!

Bernie, I'm so sorry. Safe travels.
Rest in peace, Bunny. You're correct Paul. A true hero, indeed.

What I forgot earlier: PJ, I love the shirt! Very clever of the niece. And your MIL does look great for her age. Must be some good genes in the family.

No, Frank, she is 2. Don't you remember? We were guessing which baby would be born first 2 years ago.

Back to laundry.

Yes, Badger, highest tides in the world on the Bay of Fundy. At high tide, all that beach is covered, right up to the cliffs.

Yeah, that's right! I knew there was a third Jan. Grandbaby but I couldn't remember who the third Grandparent was. Thanks, Nipper. I must be getting senior moments.

Morning all

Bernie, sorry to hear about Lillie Mae.  I'm sure you've been braced for her decline with her health and age.  Sad  but a fact of life.  We all go sometime.  Bless her sweet heart, I hope she's at peace.

GBP, I would love to see your pictures.  You could text them to me.  You still have my number?  I'm sure you had a good time at La Joys.  It's a great place to stay.  What unit did you get?

Frank, I've used several topical cbd/thc oils, tinctures, and Salves.  SYNERGY SALVE is the best one I've tried so far.  Friends who tried mine liked it and got some for their own.  Matter of fact, but my first jar was absconded by a "friend" they liked it so well.  I've almost used up my current jar.  It does relieve minor pains.  It has helped on my leg with the sciatica.  It's not a cure all but helps.  The tinctures and oils that go under the tongue are not very strong and you'd have to take a lot for the relief you need.  I suggest you try vaper oils when available.  They do help me with pain.  They all have different qualities so I have several that I use alternating them for specific needs.  Some combinations help me with "munchies" so I'm hungry.  I need to gain weight.  The INDICAs helps with pain and sleeping.  Some SATIVAS just make me feel better mentally and some kinda get me going, so I use a combination to "smoke".  There is a website, LEAFLY.COM that lists the benefits of different kinds of the raw bud product.  I hardly ever smoke bud anymore.  The vape oils are no fuss or muss.  Nothing actually burns and smells.  It's accepted even in most public places since so many are vaping Nicotine or flavoured oils.  It would have to be tested to know what it is.  I've carried them through TSA with no issue or questions.  Hoping that you find something for relief.  A friend with diabetes has neuropathy and has tried everything.  At one time he graduated to morphine and was hooked.  He finally was able to quit all the addictive products including alcohol.  He now just smokes bud and can tolerate it.

Pearl had surgery yesterday and is acting like nothing hurts.  The growth that was removed looked like she was growing a penis.  It was bulb shaped with a pointed end with hair.  It was growing fast.  It was sent for biopsy.  The vet had no idea of what or why.

It's a shame about the skier but he went doing something he enjoyed.

Jamie, I love my 4 wheeled walker with the seat and carry all compartment.  I did buy a 2nd one and keep it in the car.  Yesterday I managed to get it in and out of the car so I can go places on my own.  The new one I bought was claimed to be light weight aluminium but they are still kinda heavy to get in the car, but do able.

Today I have repairman coming for the front refrigerator and oven.  I need to get a manicure while Chris is here this afternoon.

GBP, are you joining us in POMO this spring?  You should come.  You'll love this bunch of folks.

Buenas Noches,

BeBe, so sorry Lillie Mae took a fall (((Hugs))) drive safely.

Barata congrats!  Very nice to have a direct flight.  Taxi is definitely more expensive than a private transfer.  Also take a photo of the taxi board just outside the arch for your reference (and for theirs) as they WILL try to rip you off and remember to negotiate before you get in the taxi.

- Most economical, would be ADO bus to Playa then taxi from Playa to AK or vice versa in your case.
- Cheapest transfer is Nast check them out on line.
- Otherwise Canada Transfers and USA are the same price.  We also just used Reliable Transfers this time and they are great!  Group of 9 that branched out from CDN Transfers and started their own company.  We know one of the drivers so decided to check them out, 5 star service (cool towels and free beer)

Thanks bobski et al for the thumbs up vote ;)

Cindy that is so cool about getting a pup in spring, perhaps another collie?  Chris you feel almost normal?

SNF how is your baby doing?

MB hope you are coughing up all that crud and feeling better!

Nice beach Nipper.

Everyone else make it a good day.

Arrived and enjoying the Roo!

Another nice weather day.  Clinic appointment went well.  Two hours later the portable oxygen concentrator lost battery power. No big deal as we were less than 5 minutes from the house and now I know the capacity of the two batteries.  Determined to be better than ever for March 11th trip. Next step is pulmonary doctor.  Will try again to reach their office in the morning.

Bernie, saddened to hear about Lillie Mae.  Prayers of peace and comfort for your family.

Nipper, so sweet of you to post those beach pics.  I plan to do some research on Fundy Bay.  Is that a red clay cliff?  Reminded me of some places on Lake Superior.  Perhaps Badger knows what I am referring to.  The red clay finds its way into the water and form the strangest roundest rocks in various shapes.  I have a basket full.  Happy 2nd BD to Daniel.

Cindy, had to chuckle about he baby boom that happened a couple years ago.  Hope you had a good day.  I'm excited about you getting a pup this spring.  First things first.  Get Chris all fixed up and enjoy the upcoming trip.

Frank, sounds like Twirls is in the know about the oils, etc.  Sure hope you can find some sort of relief.

Barata, such great news.  So happy for you and John.

PJ, I did watch that video of PoMo.  Badger was spot on with his earlier reporting and much better food porn I might add.  Has the wire hit your bank account yet?

Twirls, hope Pearl is okay.  GP recommended a dietician counsel.  Most insurance companies don't cover.  I told doctor what I had to eat during the course of the day yesterday.  She was impressed by the various protein intakes.  Not to be smug but I think I got this one and can put a few pounds on along the way.  Lots of valuable info on the web.

Bob, enjoy the slopes tomorrow.  Glad you got your vehicle out of the ditch okay.

Badger, down about 8" of precip here since December.  One less thing for me to think about.

SoSo, gracias.

Crunchie, don't envy your office move.  The work week is almost over.

Hi to everyone I've missed.  Take care, MB

Evening all

MB, you "sound" better!
I've actually been very hungry for the last week or so.  I thought of several things I'd like to cook while it's cold and wintery for the next several days.   I managed to get my walker loaded in the car and to another grocery store today.  I've stocked up with a bit of everything that sounded good.  Since I'm mostly home bound and its cold, I might as well cook and eat!  Yesterday I bought 2 great looking porterhouse steaks so I cooked 1 tonight and Chris and I split it with baked potatoes, broccoli with cheese and garlic bread.   I also bought a 1/4 of a cheesecake.  I ate bites of it that I topped with bits of cherry pie!  YUMMY!  I'm sure I've gained another couple of lbs in the last few days.  I'm eating all day, basically out of boredom, I think.

Oops.  Left this sitting.  Not much more to add.

Hola Gang, long time, no chat/lurk.
Hope everyone is doing good and you all had a joyful holiday season.
So far, knock on wood, we've had a very mild winter here in Wisconsin. (Badger is a little farther north so can't vouch for him)  (I'm sure C&C have been bragging a little about southern Wisconsin's weather thus far this winter LOL)
Usually I'm chomping at the bit to get outa here and head south across the border to escape the xitty weather this time of year. (okay, I'm still chomping but not as much as past years) Heading to Cozumel in 10 days (but who's counting) to blow some bubbles and get my sand fix. (see ticker below) Woooo Hooooo!!!
Speaking of sand fix, I saw on FB that a bunch of you BCers are headed to Po Mo for adult spring break beginning of May.
I LOVE Po Mo and it's been a while!
I would like to join all of you if you're willing to put up with my xit however now that I'm semi retired my vacation slush fund isn't what it used to be and Cozumel will be depleting it big time and I'm not sure I can build it back up in time for May only working a couple days a week and collecting SS.
Is everyone staying at different hotels? We usually do all inclusives but could possibly change to stay downtown if that's where everyone else is gonna be. Again, only hoping and keeping fingers crossed we will be able to afford it.
Miss seeing y'all. Take care.
Peace, Bimmy

Badger,
Watching the news right now. Not much info yet other than she is alive and a suspect is in custody. She was found up in your neck of the woods in Douglas co. I see.
False rumor that she was found last night down by us in Walworth co.
Peace, Bimmy

I need to get a manicure while Chris is here this afternoon.

Wow! Chris also does manicures? What-a-guy.
I'm glad Pearl the Wonder Dog is OK!

Good Morning Clubbers, it's Friday.

Thinking of you, Bernie.

MB, I believe what you are talking about we refer to as "concretions". My mother used to take us kids to a beach about 10 miles from here to collect them, lotsa fun.

Bimmy, we'd love to see you in PM and I know I can help you can do a trip there on the cheap. Diving there is supposed to be great. Let me check into a few things and get back to you.
EDIT: Yes, Bimmy, that place is only about a hour away from us, hope she will be OK.

We were invited to our friends Rick & Sheila's house for dinner last night, many of you met them and their daughter Alana at our party at the ABR in 2011. I posted a few photos of Alana's outdoor wedding last summer? Well, Alana & Hector are expecting their first child in March.

Good Morning
Such wonderful news to wake up to! I can see why the rumor started that they found her in Walworth County; I was watching local news (early) and they kept focusing on doings over there. They had something like 20 police/FBI? vehicles, a forensics vehicle and numerous other responders parked at a small farmstead outside of East Troy, Wi. (East Troy is where we always make our potty stop, stretch our legs, and grab a coffee when headed to Mom's house in Illinois). Will certainly be interesting to get the full story on BOTH stories. But the thought that they might have found Jaymie crossed my mind while watching the East Troy thing. She's alive, and that is wonderful.
Today we have to drop the Toyota off at the dealership in town for a recall thing. I forget who asked, but the other day was just the regular maintenance at Jake's. A light comes on telling you maintenance is due. Nothing wrong with it, just needed the oil change, etc.
Tree is finally packed up in it's 2 storage boxes. On top of everything else, Chris has come up gimpy. Using his cane to get around, and making a lot of pitiful noises. So for now the boxes are in the foyer; I can't lift them into their storage area. Eldest son will drop in tomorrow and take care of it for me. But family room is back to normal, furniture rearranged, just needs to be vacuumed. Didn't look at the weather page, but it is supposed to be a little milder with light winds, so might be able to get those outside lights down.
Bimmy, I think the weather has been weird. Had Jan/Feb weather in Nov. Had some spring weather in Dec. then back to frigid. Too much rain, too little snow to cover my plants and protect them...just weird. Have fun on your trip!

As my Dad used to say, time to get cracking! Can't go driving around in my bathrobe. Well, I guess I could, but my legs would be cold. Will check back later when I need to take a break from Christmas cleanup. Have a wonderful day!
Cindy
