Twirls thanks for keeping us posted about Bernie, he is bound to call when his service is restored, or the lines are less busy like Beach Billy suggested. Good luck with the Gyn on Monday.

Chris & Cindy, that arrachera beef sure sounds good, glad you had a nice family visit.

Not much here, my laptop is running super slow and keep having to refresh, etc. Not sure what is wrong with it, have called Geek Squad but they cannot get out until Thursday am although they have me on a waitlist if someone cancels.

Good evening.  90 and sunny.  Ran a few errands this morning and did another walk about on yard filling the 5 gallon home depot bucket around 10 and I was a dripping sweat.  Been in the house since with the humidity.   Not complaining, don't get me wrong with everything else that is going on with the east coast.

JJ, so glad you are loving the new job with passion.  Happy for you.

Bernie, Bernie.  Hope all is well for you and others.

Twirls, thinking the same thing with landline out no cell phone towers.  Pretty sure all is well.  Keep those prayers coming.

Frank, need an update on Scarlet.  Hope you are still hanging in there.  Hugs.

SoSo, I still need some pics of all the work you two have been doing.

Hi Jamie, Susy, SNF, Nipper, Bob, Crunchie  and so many others.  Will leave you with a few pics of my latest lunch with brother Phil and SIL, Holly.  Keep forgetting to post them.  Be well, MB

BeachBilly---As Janjon said make sure the roofer is there to meet the insurance adjuster.  If not, I would bet money the adjuster will "miss" a lot of stuff, like the bath fan for instance.

Has anyone eaten a jackfruit?  How did it taste?  Vegans say it tastes like pulled pork, I'm assuming it tastes that way if you cook it.  A new store, Fresh Thyme, opened in our area and I went to check it out.  They carry a lot of organic and different things you don't see in a regular grocery store.  The jackfruit must be the lobster of the fruit family.  It sells for $1.50 per pound.  In the first picture, those each weighed about 20 pounds.  Just one of those will set you back $30!

Here is a short blurb about the fruit from Wikipedia:

The jackfruit tree is well suited to tropical lowlands, and its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit, reaching as much as 55 kg (120 lb) in weight, 90 cm (35 in) in length, and 50 cm (20 in) in diameter.[10][11] A mature jackfruit tree can produce about 100 to 200 fruits in a year. The jackfruit is a multiple fruit, composed of hundreds to thousands of individual flowers, and the fleshy petals are eaten.

This is one tree you don't want to nap under.  Can you imagine one landing on your noggin?

A couple of 20 pounders

I wonder how they harvest them?  Be interesting to watch!  Wonder if this is a bumper crop?

Apparently you eat the orange flesh and the nut inside of each piece of flesh

Check out the stems!  I think the "circle image" things are a photographer's error

It's also a "miracle" fruit.  Cures everything except pain in the feet

If you want to know more about this fruit, here is a link to pictures of it and its many uses:
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=jackfruit&qpvt=jackfruit&FORM=IARRSM

And now, wait for it...…...

Good Morning
Never even heard of it before, Frank. Looks like a giant, elongated Osage orange. Don't think I'd really like a fruit that tastes like pork, though. But speaking of Osage oranges, do you have any growing along a fence row on your farm? We had some on the farm in Illinois. Always like to add some to fall décor. Plus, a few in the house discourage spiders and mice. If you have any, I'd reimburse you for shipping, etc.

That is one giant burrito, MB. Phil didn't eat that all in one sitting, did he? Looks like 4 meals to me. (or more!)

Thinking about Bernie, praying all is well.

Fairly boring day yesterday. Can't do anything outside, the mosquitos are just too hungry. CLOUDS of them, everywhere. Repellent not deterring them. Went out to get some flowers from the cutting garden, must have gotten at least 30 bites. So bad I had to take a Benedryl. 2 more days of dry weather, then rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a wonderful day, all
Cindy

Good Morning Giant Burritos, it's Sunday.

Love the food porn, MB!

C'mon Frank, take one for the team and buy one of those.

Hope Bernie is doing OK, I would feel better if he had purchased a small generator just to keep things charged and maybe run a fan.

Twirls, please let us know how the appointment goes tomorrow!

Cindy, lots of mosquitos hatched recently up here, but not as bad as what you've got.

My Badgers lost yesterday, I listened to most of the game on the radio coming home, now I have to try to drink the Packers to victory today.

Edit: I started a thread over on the LG Party Forum for a possible LG get together next spring.

Morning!

MB  that is one big burrito!

Frank... They had some jacfruit cut into smaller pieces at our local grocery store. My curiosity got the best of me so I paid the $4 .  watched youtube videos to see how to eat them.  No, it did not taste like pork.  I suppose if you slow cooked it and added a bunch of spices you might get there.  but no pork taste.  It's hard to describe.  maybe hints of pineapple?  but not as sweet.  I was not impressed. Of course, it was from a grocery store and not a street stand, so I'm guessing it tastes somewhat different picked fresh from the tree.

Twirls, is Bernie close to where the eye of the storm came ashore?  Looks like he's just south of Oak Island. Did he say anything about rising water ?

Last night was fun at the vineyard. bought a bottle of wine to bring home - we were home by 9 and watched an episode of Ozark then hit the sack.

90's this week with rain thursday/friday.  I might try to catch a few rays today.

Enjoy your Sunday funday!

Morning all

Still can't reach Bernie.  He's between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach so it came ashore a bit north of him.  He got mostly off shore wind until it went south.  I don't think that his area got as much rain as the northern areas.

Cindy, is Osage ______ the same as hedge apples?  We have those here.  They look like round jackfruit.
I haven't tried jackfruit and I probably won't!

Had pool time with friends but I wasn't up to par.  Last night I really HURT and almost called 911 again.  Instead I took a couple of kinds of pain pills and it finally subsided.  The pressure is getting worse and I'm not sure I'll make it to surgery time, whenever it's scheduled.  If I make it until Monday's appointment, I'M GOING TO BEG FOR IMMEDIATE SURGEY.  I CAN'T TAKE MUCH MORE.  I think I'm going to explode.  I thought it may have ruptured last night but I had no temperature or I would have called 911.
I hate being controlled by pain.  I'm adjusting to the RA, but this pain is intolerable.

At least I have football and more pool time today.

Happy Sunday

Cindy...How many hedge apples/osage oranges do you want? We've got them all over. I've seen some still on the tree. They drove my husband crazy as much as the bush honeysuckle that is everywhere too.

I guess my headache yesterday was the precursor to waking up with a sore throat. Don't really have time to be sick. Why am I still hungry though?

Claire, I'd take 4 or 5. They're not light, so anymore than that would cost too much in shipping. I will reimburse you! Did you hang on to my address? let me know and I'll pm you if you don't have it. Feel better soon!  (Yes, Twirls, same thing)

Good morning BCers!
Another beautiful and hot day here.
First try at yard patrol was a bust.  Neighbor started target practice.
Lil doggie is not going to stay outside if there is shooting going on.
Waited awhile and tried it again.
Quite the boring weekend for me.  SJ gone.  SC didn't come home.
Just the dog and the cat here to boss me around.   Washing bedding
and hanging outside to dry.  Weather is perfect for that.
Need to go to the store and stock up on laundry supplies and few more items.
Maybe get some Mexican take out for dinner.  MB's pics made me for hungry for that. LOL

Sure hope Bernie is doing alright.

Wishing everyone a beautiful day!

I just heard from Bernie.  He was calling from his truck using OnStar.  His power and both phones are still out.  It didn't flood in his area and a nearby grocery store was already open.  Not a lot of damage that he saw other than a few branches down.  I'm glad he's ok but says he VERY BORED.  Said to report to you all regarding the situation and say HEE HEE!   He still has his sense of humor.

Cindy, I just went and picked some. They have some brown spots but aren't rotten. Its probably because of all the rain we've gotten this summer. I still have your address.

Good afternoon.  86 and sunny.  Feel like temp of 90 with high dew points.  A little cooler tomorrow so i am hoping to tackle the lawn work.  So glad that Bernie made contact with Holly for an update.  8:30 church service, then back to the house to change clothes and another shake y bake appointment.  Watching the border battle game.

Holly, please do everything in your power to make that doctor appointment tomorrow.  You teeny tiny frame can only take so much.

Cindy, way to much food ordered of which I just nibbled on a couple appetizers.  Phil probably ate 1/4 of that burrito.  The bacon wrapped shrimp were delicious.  Made them take all the leftover food with them.  The mosquitoes are not bad here but my SIL says they are inundated with biting flies.

Frank, that fruit looks awfully strange but interesting. I'd never heard of it before.

JJ, sounds like a beautiful anniversary evening was had.

BeachBilly, had to have myself a SOL.  Thinking about you and glad you are checking in with us.  I had a wonderful 35 year career at BC/BS of MN.  I gave them a full two year notice out of respect for my VP and Director.  Wasn't worried about a thing, but they sure took advantage of that.  I had to rewrite all the agency and agent agreements with the attorney's and put desk level policy and procedures manuals in place for each of my staff.  Sounds like you have a great relationship with your boss.  You will love retirement.

PJ, sometimes quiet is good although you seem to be keeping yourself busy.  Hope you get rid of that crud very soon.

Hi to all I've missed.  Have a great rest of the day.  Later, MB

I think you needed one more drink. Oh well. Not a loss. Rodgers plays better on one leg than any other QB on two legs.
And that Badger game yesterday was painful, too.

Missed the update on Bernie! Thanks, Holly! Glad he is OK.  Bored is much better than sitting on a roof waiting for evac. And hoping your appt. tomorrow is the beginning of the end of the pain.
And, Happy (belated) Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. JJ!

Claire, thanks so much! I like the way they smell, too. Kind of citrusy and fresh. (until they're not fresh, LOL)

Cindy--You are right about the jackfruit looking like an elongated Osage Orange.  Biggest difference I see, besides size, is the outer rind of the jackfruit has pointed tips on the "bumps" rather than smooth like an Osage Orange.

I figured Bernie would check in by now, as he got power and land line phone restored this afternoon, but maybe he doesn't have internet yet.

I missed the Pack game but KC GAME WAS GREAT.
I felt like I should have been making chili since it was mid September and football was on but it was almost 90° so I floated in the pool and enjoyed the game.  Then I celebrated by taking myself to a great dinner.  1 glass of wine with a good meal and home early.

Good Moanday
Gonna try and get the laundry out of the way and then load up on the deet and make another pass or two mowing the ditch. Still wet but the more I can get cut down, the faster it will dry off and we don't need anymore mosquitos hatching. Hoping tomorrow's forecast rain is minimal. Then need to clean up and get myself to the Chiropractor. Usual spine straightening, but also want him to check out my left shoulder. Don't know what I did to it, but it has been paining me for about a week. Feels like it is not quite seated properly in the socket. Lifting anything above shoulder height is painful. Not whining, mind you, with all of you suffering much worse, but hoping he can fix it for me. Mostly just annoying.

Still brooding about the Packer game. Bogus call on Matthews cost them the win.
Bosco, great that you are checking in more often. Hope it doesn't take another hurricane to get you to stop in more often.
Hope you all have a wonderful day
Cindy

True.  Bernie has a technical problem with his modem or something.  So no internet.

Travelon, aka Sherry, had over 24 hours of steady rain ans was still raining when I talked with her yesterday afternoon. Charlotte was flooding but she said it wasn't quite as bad at their place yet.

I'm up early due to pain.  I'm going to come insanely unglued if the GYN doesn't make immediate plans to remove this alien egg in my tiny body!
My night went as usual per lately...nerve pain pill just at bedtime.  Woke with pain so Ibuprofen...later , bad pain so the heavy duty pain pill.  Then I roll around dreaming weird stuff until daylight.  I'm exhausted by dark.  I used to go to bed just after dark.  Now it's only 7:30!  I have to force myself to stay awake till 9 or I'll be up before Badger.

I opened my phone this morning to send a GOOD MORNING message and there was  "draft" that said FCC....Strange since I didn't do that and I hadn't had my phone since early last night.  as I typed my message, I noticed my autocorrect was suggesting weird words.  I typed that I was going to attack if the GYN didn't... and auto correct suggested U.S. and citizens!  It continued suggesting strange words.  Hmmm.  Big brother?

Hope everyone has a great day.  I'm NOT ATTACKING ANYONE OR ANYTHING!
