Took a hike up Rumford White cap today, about 5 1/2 miles round trip with 1700 feet elevation gain. I love these peaks with good views all around

And we found plenty of these!!!!!

Even odds a glacier left this here

Looking back at Sunday River ski resort!

Of course, I had to locate this USGS marker. Somebodies removed the elevation numbers

Looks like Chuck Norris was here, and he wasn't happy!

So glad it only topped out in the mid 70's today!

Lovin life,
Bob

Good Morning Clubbers, it's Sunday.

Thinking of you, BeachBilly.

Well, our boating trip turned into a PITA Friday. Instead of a nice, relaxing day on the water.....I decided to launch my boat at a friend's private landing to save time, but I didn't realize that the concrete portion under the water had been washed out by storms last year and since the lake is still too muddy to see thru the water I backed my truck into the lake and promptly buried it. Called  a friend to help me and even with his truck hooked to mine we could not move my truck. Ended up getting a farm tractor to pull it out and by the time we had done that we had no desire left for a ride. Maybe next weekend.

Spending the day today getting ready for a job about 50 miles from home, probably won't have internet access over there.

Fun Boat Drinx, starting to make plans for Labor Day at C&C's.

Weather up here has been wonderful, low 80s for highs, low 60s at night and not much humidity. Babs and the doggies are spending lots of time outdoors.

Wag more....bark less.

Howdy and good morning everyone.

After torrential rains yesterday from 3PM for 3 hours, the sun is shining brightly this AM. That tropical storm we had about 200 miles off the coast was the rain culprit. Weather lady says we will have partly cloudy conditions later today with a high of 85 degrees. The current temp is 71F at 7:36.

Yesterday was laundry and calling some companies to investigate a better cost for pest and termite control. The company I have now was included with the original purchase of my new home and was free for a year. I believe they are high priced and I'm not happy with the service out of South Carolina. Time to deal with a local family owned business that is about 4 miles from my home.

I heard from Norma Jean yesterday; she went to the doctor & he said she had the 'crud'. No, it wasn't the fish that I grilled, as I felt fine and had no stomach issues. We had talked about a possible trip to Tulum, as she hasn't visited the Caribbean part of Mexico yet. I worked some on the computer to see what award travel flights are available.

Nice pictures, Bob. Did you bring back some blue berries ?

Badger, bummer on the boat ramp. Is your truck & boat OK ?  Not a fun day on the lake at all !!

Going back to yesterday, good to hear you got flight/room for another trip, MB. You have been chomping at the bit to get away.

PJ, nice pictures of your back porch area. Little doggie looks so cute. Big pontoon boat !  How long ?

Time to get moving. Will see y'all later.
Bernie

Good Sunday Morning Clubbers.

BAdger... Ugh. That's certainly a way to kill your buzz....what a day... How long did it take you to get your truck out and is there any damage to the truck?

We've actually had decent weather the past couple of days.  Currently 70 degrees and it almost feels chilly.  should hit the 90's today.

Mr JJ smoked a brisket friday/saturday..  niece and her man came over yesterday and hung out with us.  They stayed until 11:30... I was exhausted. I hardly ever stay up that late. BTW the brisket was delish .. I threw together a potato salad and niece made an yummy arugula/spinach salad with grapes, avocado, goat cheese and walnuts with a balsamic dressing.  Everything was perfect.

My last day of staycation, then new job tomorrow.  I'm so nervous!

have a great day All

Good morning.  Another beautiful day.  72 and sunny now.  High of 90.  Will be headed to church at 9:30.  Was up earlier than the norm so I thought I would pop in here for a quick hello.  Plan to relax the rest of the day, other than finishing the trimming around the fence posts.

Badger, not a fun day.  Hope you didn't damage anything on boat or truck.

JJ, brisket sounds so yummy.   Be thinking about you tomorrow.

Bob, nice hike and beautiful vistas.

Hi Bernie. probably the same crud I recently picked up.  Hope she feels better soon.  When are you contemplating a trip to Tulum?   Maybe bump into you if you head down in early October.

Make it a great day and prayers for those in need.  Later, MB

JJ, you are going to be great at the New job!!

Badger, what a PITA and pity.  Been there.  Done that.  I've been on many cancelled boat trips.  I opted out of the last ride in our boat although I didn't know it was LAST RIDE at the time.  I watched it partially sink in cove with Cammie at the helm.   We should have let it go to the bottom...but saved Cammie!  We rescued both only to have the boat beat to hello in the dock during the tail end of a hurricane from Texas.
End of boat!

Feeling a bit better today after 12 hours of sleep.

I'm pondering a Thanksgiving week cruise on the Mississippi from Memphis to NOLA.  It's very pricey.  I could do 2 trips or Europe for the same price but this is a very small luxury ship and probably a very good place to meet others in my situation.  They have 20+ singles cabins and they book fast.  I've already missed out on availability on all September New England cruises for the leaves.  Which tells me that there are many possibilities of making new friends who like to travel, love good food and have their own $$!  Plus I have nothing to do for Thanksgiving unless I want to stay home and cook for whomever stops by.  NOT.  Also, I'VE NEVER BEEN TO NEW ORLEANS!  I'm thinking I might push the button next week.
Any thoughts?

I have learned that life without talking to Jan every day is fine.  It's actually rather freeing.  I can live without her although I'd prefer it not be this way.  I do plan to talk with her soon if she's receptive.

I've been sidetracked several times.  Better go.  The day has begun...

We finally made it out on the Tennessee river yesterday with the 24 ft Party Barge for a lovely cruise.
Boat motor performed pretty well after many years of just sitting unused.  Still doesn't like to idle though.
Took a few pictures while we were cruising.  So you can all see the beauty of what they call the lower end of
Kentucky Lake.

Looking South

Looking North

Party Barge pulled up to shore for lunch.

Rock formations along the TN river.  This one is called Lady Finger Bluff.

We found a Mermaid in the river.  LOL

This rock formation is where the wild and crazy people climb up and jump into the river.
Yes, I have jumped from there a few times.  In my much younger days. LOL

Captain Awesome!

'Afternoon all
Sorry I didn't check in this morning, time just got away from me. Went to 8am church. Love non-communion Sundays in the summer; we do a hymn sing to start the service. People get to raise their hand and call out a number for their favorite hymn. Usually do 3 or 4. Nice to have the old favorites come out now and then. Almost raised my hand for one, but was too slow. And the one I picked was used later in the service.

Cleaned out the front flower bed of annuals. Had lost some plants to the extreme heat, and planted some replacements. Lots of weed grass had come up as we sweltered, but all gone now and in the compost. Chris is out watering the vegetable garden and will do the flower beds when he's done back there. I watered everything on the deck. Low humidity. Things dry up fast. Don't want to lose our lettuce and spinach. Have been enjoying lots of salads lately.

We might go and try out a new restaurant this evening. Place used to be a Dairy Queen, but Culver's put them out of business. Eventually it opened up as a family type restaurant; typical Greek restaurant. 15 page menu with 20 or so inserts, everything you can imagine, plates piled high, but none of it very good. It didn't last very long. Couple of weeks ago saw a sign on the building "Coming Soon!" Don Ramon Mexican Cuisine. As we drove by after church this morning sign was changed to Now Open.
Chris said let's go tonight. Fine by me. The Hitching Post is closed for a week (started the 4th), so I won't be getting my seafood enchiladas Tuesday, anyway. Having another Mexican Restaurant can only be a good thing. Will try to remember to take some food porn pics.

Now Chris wants me to do the front watering, so I must muster up a little more energy. He's going to plant some more sweet corn for late season eating.

MB, a couple of pages ago you asked me if we had Japanese beetles around, and I forgot to answer. Today when I was in need of a hydration break and wanted to wipe the sweat off my face, I sat down with my ice water and turned on my kindle. Read 2 chapters when suddenly I felt something on my shoulder. Stinking Japanese beetle. Had probably been in my hair. Shudder. Squished the bug and sent him into the compost. Have seen quite a few today. Yuck.

Gonna be lonely around here without Badger for a week. He's doing another Depot remodel that is part of a town park, and he and his crew are planning on camping out there until it's done. He said he is really hoping for no surprises on the job that make it go longer. A lot to hope for in an old building.
Time to go out and water the flowers, have a good evening.
Thinking of you, Claire.
Cindy

Glad to hear there is no major damage to Badger's truck. Also good that there have been no reported bear sightings from him, hope the bottle rocket did the job.

So sorry to hear what Beach Billy is going through.

jj, I have total confidence you will do really well on the new job, you're a very competent person.

PJ, you and your family have a lovely house. Also enjoyed the pictures of the pontoon boat. Went out on one a few times when we used to go to the river (Colorado) with friends, their neighbors had one, was lots of fun to land it on a sandbar for lunch and good times.

Let us know where you end up for vacation in November, Twirls.

PJ, love the boating pics!

Glad all is well with Badger's boat, trailer and truck. Hate it when that happens! We were just at a boat launch with a sign telling where the concrete ends. We all discussed what occurred that made them think they needed such a sign....

The other day, I was doing some mowing of the back lots and I noticed the culvert under the driveway serving the back lots was getting overgrown on the out flow side. Now what clogs a culvert is not so much what flows into the culvert, but what is not able to exit the culvert. Basically, you need uninhibited flow out of the culvert. So I removed the bushes growing there, and low and behold, there was 4" of soil at the out flow of the culvert. So I dug that out and the outflow area, nice and wide, set my level on it to make sure there was good slope (as opposed to trusting the ole eyeball). Looks good, so I put a hose into the culvert and checked the out flow, just a dribble. I kneeled down, looked in and found a bunch of rocks in there, but all with in reach of my shovel. Some of the rocks were softball sized. I ran the water for half an hour, it looks like I have done it, but, to borrow one of Bernie's terms. I need a gully washer to test it for real!

Today, I went on a source to sea kayak trip. This is some 2 decades that the Androscoggin Watershed council has run this series of kayak runs. The Androscoggin was once one of the 10 most polluted rivers in the USA. As you get further from the source and closer to the sea, you can still smell some of what happened in the past, it's in the mud banks, but it is so much clearer these days. This trek is close to the source, so it's pretty good. Saw some ducks, geese, ospreys, eagles, turtles and yes, the fish were jumping. But this is in New Hampshire and I have a Maine fishing license.... Phooey!

Tomorrow, more kayaking, where we left off!

Be well all!

Lovin life,
Bob

Good Morning
Up for nearly an hour now, so hopefully I have enough coffee in my system so I won't forget everything I meant to mention yesterday.
PJ, your house is awesome. No wonder you see so much wildlife. And Cudi looks so cute posing for the camera. Looks like you had a great day on the Tennessee. Captain Awesome looks very relaxed.
JJ, You will be great at the new job.

We did go to the new Mex restaurant. The food was very good, but they definitely need to work out some kinks in the kitchen. Waited an hour for our order. And the nearby table, a couple who had ordered before us, didn't get their food until after we got ours! I asked what they had ordered? TACOS. Have never experienced that kind of delay at a Mex restaurant. But, as I said, the food was good and hopefully they'll get the kitchen staff organized and getting the food out timely. Prices were very reasonable, too. And because of the long wait, my 2nd Modelo Negra was on the house. $10 for Chris'  fajitas, $10 for my seafood enchiladas. (shrimp and crab). Just had melted queso on the enchiladas, I like the creamy sauce Alex at the Post makes better. Were so hungry by the time the food came, no pictures were taken. sorry.
House bound today, Chris' car going in for regular maintenance so he'll take mine to work. After the laundry is done I'll be out on the John Deere mowing. Looking mighty shaggy out there.
Have a wonderful day, all
Cindy

Howdy and good morning all.

Nice sunny skies this AM. I caught the weather on TV a bit ago and the forecast is 87 degrees at the beach. Current temp is 71 at 7:13. I might just have to do a walk on the beach before it gets too hot.

Yesterday was do the bedding laundry and then checked for another hummingbird cleaning mop on line. My old one was getting rusty on the metal and the soft spongy mop was almost shot. Found one and went to Lowe's Home Improvement to check it out. Well darn. Wrong store. It was at Home Depot. Felt pretty stupid on that mission. Hee,hee.

Spent more time checking on flights and hotels for another Tulum trip yesterday afternoon. Too hot for anything outside. Sent an email to Norma Jean to see if she was feeling better. She responded that she had changed her mind on the trip together and thought we didn't have much in common. Surprise !
I think I'm going to drop on-line dating sites and head to the bars. Ha,ha,ha. On a serious note, I was bummed when she didn't want to date any longer. I really thought we had a connection but what the heck. BeBe bounces back fairly quick.  Keep ya posted on the next date !

MB, I started with a September search but could not find the right r/t cheaper mileage flights. Shifted to October and found one 26th to the 31st ( 5 nights ). Thought that would be perfect. Thank goodness I didn't book it.  Glad you are headed down again. You needed to get away ! Have fun.

Hope you find a nice trip for Thanksgiving, Holly. A river cruise might just be perfect for you.

PJ, thanks for the great pictures of your river trip. Looks like everyone had a good time. So you ever take little doggie out on the pontoon ?

Have fun with more kayaking, Bob.

Hey Jamie. When I see the evening news, it appears that the entire State of California is on fire !! Sure hope they can get those fires under control.

Cindy, thanks for the update on Badger's truck/boat mishap. Bummer on the new Mex place.

Today is jj's 1st day on the new job.  Go get 'em girl and show 'em what ya got !! You will do fine.

Oops, Crunch, we crossed posts. I didn't type quick enough for you to get the update on "my gal". Sorry about that. Probably jumped the gun on my expectations on that one. hee, hee.

Coffee done.
Time to get ready for the day.

FYI--IMO--I have found that catching  the Japanese beetles with the bags with bait inside them not to put them close to the infected area.  You are just pulling more towards that area.  set them some distance away.  Had a blackberry batch infested.  Put a bag at each corner.  Bags filled up then the coons at the bottoms out of the bag. Disgusting to say the least.  They multiply too fast to get them all. On the advice of a guy at the local Farmers Coop, I moved them and the beetles moved too. You don't want them coming to the infected plants but draw them away to find a new place to destroy so hopefully the infected planted will some how survive.

Badger---Sorry to hear of you boat fiasco.  What a wasted day.  Was it a John Deere that pulled you out?  I'd try a different place to launch next week (Just a reminder not to try a different way at the same ramp! I'm sure use have learned your lesson but is something I would probably try!)

BB--More prayers coming your way.  Hope there is some improvement.  God bless both of you.

Good morning BCers!
Blue sky with a light breeze.  Temps have cooled off a bit.
Had a fun weekend.  I'm pooped!  Laundry today.
Badger's problem with the boat ramp.  Brought back memories of a broken concrete ramp.
Getting the boat trailer hung up.  Large bill $$$ for a big wrecker to lift it off.
Another bill to put boat in marina because trailer was damaged and had to be welded back together.
Very expensive boating day.  LOL  Though insurance did kick in for some of it eventually.

Bernie,  We have not had the boat in the river for a very long time.  Didn't think the trial run
would be a good time to take lil doggie with us.
Sorry Norma decided to back off.  Hugs

jj,  Wishing you all the best at the new job today.

C&C,  Sounds like you had a great time with old friends this weekend.
Getting out the old albums...love it!  Such Fun!

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

BeachBilly,  Hugs and prayers for Joe and you.  <3

Good afternoon.  87 and partly cloudy.  Ran some errands this morning.  Back home for a bite to eat.  Watered flowers and mini pruning on two bushes, couple of toilets cleaned and that's about it.

Bob, kayaking is a lot of fun.  Hope you brought GF's little doggie with ya.

PJ, lovely day on the water.  Appreciate the pics.

Cindy, thanks for update on Badger's truck, trailer and boat.  Hopefully his current job has no big surprises.  Those dang Japanese beetles are making mincemeat out of my birch, lindens and hanging baskets.  Dang them nasty buggers.  Quite the wait at new MX restaurant.  Maybe do a return after they have worked the kinks out.

Frank, bought those beetle bags a few years back.  I don't bother with them anymore.  Out of my control. How are the feet feeling?

More prayers sent your way BeachBilly.

Bernie, kinda strange about Norma Jean.  Perhaps the right lady will come along when you least expect it.

JJ, hope your first day at new job went well.

Dang, there goes that convertible red Thunderbird again with a blonde with a ponytail.  Steering wheel on left side.  Saw it the other day as well.  Not much else going on.  Still praying for the entire Thailand soccer team evacuation.

Be well and happy all.  MB

Buenos Noches!

Thank you all for the well wishes.
My first day is over and all went well.
I've started jobs before and walked out on my first day thinking "what in the heck did I get myself into"
but today I came out thinking "i'm with a really good company"
The atmosphere was like night and day.
Orientation was great...Training for the next 3 weeks

as for those beetle bags, I feel like they attract more and they are nasty nasty nasty to dispose of. I don't have very many but Mom's cherry trees are always destroyed.

Bernie, sorry it didn't work out with NJ.  You will meet someone when you least expect it.  It always happens that way... even when you aren't looking

Uphill you remind me of Mr JJ.. see's something that need repairing and he does a full blown job on it.  His thinking is if you are going to do it half ars, then why do it.

PJ  Looks like ya'll had a beautiful day.. I've jumped from cliffs like that a couple of times... in my much younger days. LOL

Badger. glad your truck was damage free.

Have a great week!

Evening all.

Sending prayers to you and Joe, BB.

Good to hear Dad may be coming around, Crunch. He just needs to get his feet wet (somewhere) and he'll find community living ain't so bad an idea.

Thanks for the pics PJ and Bob. Sonny moved the family to Port Henry, NY. They are a three minute drive from Lake Champlain. Already talking about getting a small boat, as they all like to fish and swim.
Those boulders are fascinating, Bob, especially the split one. Wonder if it made a noise when it cleaved itself. You know...."if a tree falls in the forest....?"

Geeze Badger! When it rains it pours! My work day last Tuesday felt like that; felt like a Monday. Three round trips to the hardware store for supplies I didn't have...half hour each trip. Glad to hear there was no damage to craft or trailer.

Jap beetles are the pits! We're not having too much trouble with them this year, knock wood! As Frank said, the traps have to be set away from your affected plants to draw them away.

Well that was a slap in the face, Uncle BeBe! But you've the right attitude; plenty of fish in the sea. There's a keeper out there, just keep casting.

How was your first day, JJ?

A river cruise sounds divine, Twirls. And the accommodations would be perfect for you. Personally, I've never had a yearning to cross the Big Pond; there is sooo much to see and do here in the states.

Our local Mex/Tex restaurant is lacking in the Mexico cuisine, Cindy. Everything is slow to reach the table and everything tastes the same. We don't darken that door anymore. Second berry pie is fresh from the oven!

It's been so hot a dry here, MB, that I've not had to mow the lawn in almost two weeks. Five hours each trip to get the kids out of that cave. Scary! Praying they all are returned to their families safely.

The weekend at Hubbardton was fantastic; great weather! It did drop to 46 Saturday morning, but that kept the bugs away and the ground was dry for a change. Came home with dry canvas! Sweetie took a break from her commissary duties and enjoyed herself. Fort Ticonderoga a week from Saturday. Kaia may come with us for her very first enactment.
We'll be visiting the kids this weekend to do some more work on their house.

A little food porn....morning snacks before the battle at 8:00.

Accommodations for two.

All I have for now. Have a good evening!

Signed in to find a dangling post...from whenever I signed on last.  Don't remember but probably this morning.  It seems like forever.
I'm tired and going to bed.
Glad everyone sounds like they are doing well.

Good Morning
Wonderful pics, Sir Syrup. Thanks.
I'm thinking I will try some of those bait bags. It may not stop the damage, but if I can contribute to getting rid of at least some of those invasive pests, why not.
JJ, so happy for you!
Bernie, sorry it didn't work with Norma jean. Keep fishing.

Only got about half the mowing done yesterday, so will be back out there again. It got surprisingly long considering how little rain we've had lately. But the ground is hard and dry, so every little uneven patch is jolting. My back was killing me. And I have a feeling that after the harsh winter some of this area's myriad glacial rocks and boulders have heaved up and are making even more bumpy spots. It sure feels that way. Supposed to be a bit cooler today; not much breeze, but what there is, is out of the east, so Lake Mich will keep us a bit more comfortable.

Just had a pop-up message that they have rescued the 11th person out of the cave! That means only 2 to go!  Hope all goes well for the last 2. What a nightmare for those kids, have been praying for them.
Wishing all a beautiful day!
Cindy
