Happy birthday, Bernie
That Navy Bean soup sure sounds awfully good.

jj, kitchen looks terrific, nice pictures. Did you ever get the issues with the plumbing worked out?

Glad everyone made it safely to Coz, really enjoying the reports and pictures (that rope on the Becan ruins did NOT look too strong, I would have passed on climbing also).

Had rain off and on all day yesterday and evening, stopped about 7am this am. We can use it.

Have a question, needed to buy some new fluorescent lightbulbs, supermarket did not have in stock when I was there Thursday so this morning I spent at least 20 minutes looking online at 12 pages of fluorescent lightbulbs at Home Depot website and all but 3 are what they call the "linear" type. The three that fit a standard light socket ranged in price from $10-25, yikes!!! Did people stop making these bulbs for some reason? Do I have to switch over to LED bulbs which I know next to nothing about? Just installed my last bulb two weeks ago in my living room floorlamp.
PS - thanks for the wishes and advice on shopping, most of my neighbors work and one was at the Dr. or she would have come with me.

The word I have is that they have, indeed, stopped making some of the light tubes. If they are T-12 sized, when the stockpile of them runs out, that is it. They are now making T-8 sized, more efficient. Sizing is essentially that each number equals 1/8 of an inch diameter, thus a T-12 is 12 eights of an inch or 1 1/2" diameter. T-8 is 8 eighths, or 1" diameter. Be aware that T-8 bulbs won't run on a T12 transformer. If you have to change em out, it makes sense to go with LED. Our small town saves a couple hundred a month on the town lighting bill, as a result of going from fluorescent to LED.

My condolences on all the snow Maple.  That just ain't right on any level.  Hope the next one peters out before it reaches you.

Bernie--Picking out new light bulbs has become a real pain in the butt!    "Good for 20 years based on daily usage of 1 hour a day."  Saw a lot of that.

Up late.

JJ, looks magnificent!  Not sure what I contributed but putting the fridge where it's easy to access is essential.  And the pantry at the end by the garage is perfect.  Glad you got good size cabinets by the fridge and cooking area.  Looks like a great working kitchen.  Love the appliance color, slate or black stainless?  The more I look at it, the more it looks like slate.  Congratulations .  BTW, it takes forever to work kitchen ware in to the perfect spot.  I've rearranged my new kitchen cabinets 3 times as I bring stuff from the other kitchen.  Everytime I add 1 thing...

The only thing about the ferry that one needs to keep an eye out for appears to be young men sitting in the seat behind you who have had way too much guacamole to eat and fruity mixed drinks to drink before boarding a ferry on a hot afternoon when the seas are a rolling.......

How did you know it was guacamole?

Good Morning Clubbers, it's Monday.

Twirls, you went to bed about the time that I got up.

Bernie, actually, I remembered from last year that your birthday was 6 days after Babs's birthday. Strange what sticks in our heads.

Thanks for the food porn (again), I think you need to bring a bottle of that tequila home for the Labor Day party.
Hi to John and Renee.

SoSo, warmup sounds good, we may get into the 40s F later this week.

Jamie, your comment about a floor lamp left me a little confused, are you talking about replacing the long fluorescent tube type lamps or the "standard" incandescent bulbs? There are many options to replace the standard bulbs that are much cheaper than $10-25.

JJ, you two did an awesome job on the kitchen, totally impressed!

I owe, I owe....

Good morning BCers!
Cat woke me up early for yard patrol.
Chilly and damp outside.  Snow all went north or east of us.
That is just fine with me.

jj,  Your new kitchen is divine.  Love it!

Jamie,  We had same problem with the lighting situation this winter.
SJ grumbled and groaned for a week about not being able to get the size we needed anymore.
Kept bringing home long tubes and then returning them.  Nothing fit the old fixtures.
Ended up just replacing the both light fixtures in the basement game/junk room.  Which was not hard.
They just hang from chains and plugged in.

Uphill,  The lung doc was just a checkup.  Also time to get pneumonia prevention shot.
Actually feel better and stronger than I have in a few years.  Hope it stays that way.

Hi SoSo!  Hope you had fun with BFF.

Good Morning
Badge, the inebriated little jerk was sitting right behind me. Evidence on the floor. Pam was kind enough to let me squeeze in next to her and Keav. Thank God. Double suck.
Bernie, happy belated! Our first born shares your birthday.
Having a great time and eating too much great food. Dinner last night included a very talented musician. Bonus, he looked like Johnny Depp!
Too hard to post on kindle, later.

Had a dusting of snow yesterday.  About an inch on the grassy areas, streets fine.  Getting close to PA day which means I didn't have to use the snowblower all winter.  Yeah!  (PA stands for Put Away)

Good morning.  23, bright blue skies and sunny.  Early church yesterday followed by a nice visit with my niece.  Guess it was my day to take back my wins playing cribbage.  Kicked butt.

C&C and SNF, really enjoy the pics and updates.  Glad you extended your trip Pam.

Bernie, happy belated birthday.  Hope you enjoyed the brunch and had a beautiful day.

Badge, I'm looking forward to a big snow melt hopefully this coming week with some 40's in sight.

Frank, funny one on PA.  Hoping the same thing.

JJ, your new kitchen looks beautiful.  Nice job and glad you are no longer a basement dweller.

PJ, I love the way you and SC hang out.  Very special.  Curious how Thelma and Louise handle the car travel.  Good news on the lung doc visit.  Funny how the staff tracked you down for that shot.

Holly, hope Ms. Fancy Pants quits the wrist nibbling.

Jamie, do you have any local food chains that will shop for you and deliver free of charge?  My Mom was fortunate to have had this service in her community.  The same person came on a weekly basis and even put the groceries away.  If not, a lot of grocery stores do deliver for a modest fee with probably a minimum dollar amount if you are comfortable with that.  Sorry no one was around to help you.

SoSo, has the house stuff simmered down for you guys yet?

UHK, enjoyed your latest ski story with the young man.  I think that little girl in pic was looking for your protection, if needed.  Have fun skiing today.

Hello to everyone I've missed.  Make it a beautiful day.  MB

JJ---Kitchen looks terrific.  As I was going thru the "before" pics I was making mental notes on what I would change.  Sure enough you did them all on the redo!  Congrats once again.  A kitchen to be proud of.  Did you do the design yourself?

Howdy and good morning all.

Cloudy and dark this AM with rain showers passing through off and on today. Current temp 47F at 8:40
and the high is forecast to be 52 degrees. With the time change, I don't know if I slept in or I'm late for the morning news. ha. Me thinks it's both.

Yesterday Deb & I went out to the Sunday brunch I had mentioned. The food was very good. After we ate, we walked outside and lingered a little while on the large porch, which is facing the Intracoastal Waterway and part of the golf course. Very pretty setting. Forgot the camera.

When I got home and changed clothes, I decide to organize the garage a bit. It was such a nice day I hooked up the garden hose to wash the front porch. Then I shifted to the rear screened porch, plus the wood deck. Every thing is covered with that yellow pine pollen. I looks nice now but my efforts will be reward with more of that powdery yellow stuff until the pine trees stop producing it. About a month. Yuck.

Last night Deb & I ate more of the navy bean soup. It was still yummy on the 2nd night but I need to learn NOT to make 40 gallons of it at one time. Ha. After dinner settled, Deb brought a key lime pie out of the refrigerator. She had been hiding it inside a brown paper bag with instructions not to peek inside.
She had stopped at a bakery on the way back from S.C. on Friday. We both like key lime pie !

Wow, lots of posting yesterday !  Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. Much appreciated.

Hi Beach Billy !  You been hiding out.

Bob, yes, I will be here through the end of April. Only thing I am unsure of is the dates for Debby's move into her new house. Will  have to advise on that.

jj, your kitchen turned out so nice !!  Did you save the older cabinets to reuse in the garage or basement for extra storage ?  Thank you for posting the pictures.  Reference moving things from the farm house, are those crazy skunks still under the house ? I hope they have moved out !

 Hi MB.

Jamie, I was confused about which light bulbs you were talking about : the long tubular shaped florescent ones in the kitchen ? Usually 4' or 6' long.  I think they still make them. If you are unsure, get someone to remove one for you to see what type of connection is on the ends. As to the floor lamp, standard incandescent bulbs are still made in China and the last I checked Lowes and Home Depot still had them. If not, you can purchase the LED as long as the base fits ok in the floor lamp.

Cindy, that was a yucky story about the drunks on the ride to Coz. Sorry you guys had to be around that !  Thanks for the food porn from Coz.  Those are some giant margs !!

Stopped to eat breakfast. I'll never finish this post !

I'll see y'all later.
Bernie

OMG I LOST A DAY!  I was wondering why MB went to church and Bernie went to Sunday brunch...on a Saturday...   I seriously had to check my phone for the day and date.  I don't know what happened.  I called Badger to chat over Sunday coffee...DUH!

Since it is Monday, I called the local DOG WHISPERER.  I explained my situation with Pearl.  He does private training but he already says Pearl has issues and NEEDS A JOB!  Seriously.  She needs to be on a farm as a working dog.  He suspects that she was separated from her mom too early and didn't get proper discipline from mom that usually teaches them early behavior lessons.  She is too dominant and poor Margarita is becoming abused.  I probably will take for for total evaluation by him tomorrow.  He will work with her at his facility with his pack.  If she responds then I may be able to keep her.  But he suspects it's not a proper fit.  Since the breeder chose her as PICK OF THE LITTER,  as a working class breeder she is more fit for the farm than a house dog.  Although I do love her, my concern is to not ruin the dog.

You are being very caring and going the extra mile to help your little dog Twirley.  Love that.  Breeder should have know that, but I guess the money is more important to them.

Loving all the food porn today. Yummy pie.

What restaurant was that C&C and SNF's?  I didn't recognize it.  Maybe Wet Wendy's?  That was awful about your little stinky friend on the ferry.

Luvin' the pics from the Vacationers! And the Mango Margarita sequence made me chuckle. Have to get back to Coz one of these days. We have stayed at the Hotel Cozumel & Resort twice. It's close enough to San Miguel to walk, yet far enough away from the hustle...and cheap!

Twirls, We took in a rescue Australian Shepard once when Sweetie had her day-care business. Had to return her (the pup) as she was "herding" the little kiddos around the yard! Hope your Whisperer can give you some solid pointers and the go-ahead to keep Ms Fancy Pants. And yes, "home is where the heart is". With the Grands here, a permanent move to a warmer climate, is just not in the plans for several years. Used to like the winters, but no more. And moving is $$ and another whole other level of stress I just don't need right now.

SoSo, Glad to see your back. Hope you are enjoying the new digs. Good thing the soot appeared on the exterior! I'm guessing the fireplace was the culprit...or furnace/boiler? Your gas tech. had best get that squared away ASAP.

A belated Feliz Cumpleanos, Uncle Bernie! And uh,.....can you send me a piece of that pie? Yum! Good to hear that Deb's new home is coming along. No Akumal this year!? Gonna miss you!!

I picked Badger's brain a bit on PoMo....may have to hit you up for more ideas, Crunch. Sorry again on your mom's passing, and hope Dad's adjustment isn't too stressful for either of you.

That kitchen came out beautiful, JJ! A new, properly designed kitchen, can be a joy to cook in. We've adjusted to our cellar dwelling accommodations after a few years. Long story, but we moved "the kids" in upstairs when Kaia was a little over a year old as they were struggling with rent$, and they needed the extra space, two dogs....and now Oriana......they've been house shopping, but their budget is on the low end for this area, so required inspections usually kill the deal.

MB, Hope your snow is leaving fast. If not, you're only 9 days away from warm sand and sun! Yay! We are in for the 3rd Nor'easter in two weeks starting tonight. May not make it to our scheduled 18th Century dining experience tomorrow night.Another 8-12 on top of what we got last week!

See that dark purple spot just East of Albany? That's us!
Badger,....and Frank,  we have the driveway plowed, and he comes in the whee hours with the cars still in the way, so that leaves some shoveling to do. Don't have a place to store a snowblower, so that's out. As it is, the lawnmower sits out under a tarp all winter...just can't stomach looking at a snowblower parked out back through the summer.

Light bulb shopping? How come the damned things vary so much in base sizes...and the cost!? I HAVE replaced all the incandescent with florescent bulbs, but who keeps the receipt for 5 years to get a warranty replacement!? And because of the mercury inside, they have to go back to the hardware store to be recycled properly. Guess I'll just chalk it up to "progress".

I'm happy that you are feeling well, PJ. And it's good that SJ is keeping busy. So many retirees just stop "doing", and that's when the health starts to deteriorate.  SC enjoying her apartment and job?

Are there any strong young lads in the neighborhood, Jamie, that could help you with your groceries and things?
Has the snow-pack built up in the mountains this year? Wish I could send some of this white stuff your way to lessen the chance for another drought.

Well, dinner is ready....hope you've all had/having a great day. Buenas tardes to those I've missed mentioning. Be well all.

Thanks Bob and others for the advice about the lightbulbs, darn shame they stopped making the fluorescents except for those tubular things (have one of those in my kitchen ). This is a standard floor lamp with 5 shades and standard sockets for the bulbs. I've had those bulbs last 7 years and more. Guess will have to switch to the LED bulbs now. No aware of different size bases, only heard of standard and mogul.
I shop online and have my groceries delivered normally and only shop in person for stuff like fresh deli stuff but the delivery system was not working properly.

Hope MB, Badger, Maple and others get some snow relief soon. Weatherman yesterday was saying Mammoth Mountain has 275" of snow and will hit 300" by this Friday. Sounds like a lot.

Love the food and drink pictures, those margarita glasses are very pretty Cindy.

Good luck with the Dog Whisperer Twirls, you'll do whatever is best for Pearl, I know.

Forgot to mention, good to hear from Susy who normally lurks. Speaking of which, anyone heard from Travelon lately?

Hope you do not get that kind of snow accumulation Maple.  You deserve a break.  Very nice of you to help the kids the way you are.  Can't be easy living in the basement.

Maple, hope the snow is on the lower end of that range and that the power stays on for you. That is about what it will bring us too - starting this afternoon - with strong winds to keep rearranging it. We had very little snow in Feb. but March has been relentless. At least we don't get the bitter cold when we have this many storms.

Thanks for the trip reports to our fearless travellers and for the food porn. Looks like a good time is being had!
