Is Easyway out of business?

We booked a car rental with Easyway Car Rental, Cancun, about two months ago.  For the past two weeks, we've been trying to reach them about a change to our rental dates. We've sent multiple emails, including email via their own website.  We've sent a message thru their Facebook account and posted a plea on their FB page asking someone to get back to us. We've also tried to call multiple times and keep getting a recorded message saying the call can't go through and to try again later.  Does anyone know what's going on?  We've read many threads about Jesus not responding to email confirmations, but we've rented like 7 times before without any such difficulties. We leave in less than a week and believe we need to make a reservation with another agency.  If anyone knows anything about Easyway's status, or has a suggestion for another company to try, we'd greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

I used them last week -- no problems; and have a reservation for June. http://www.easywayrentacar.com/

I know it's Mexico and all but if I encountered this situation I would dump that company. The local company I deal with on Cozumel (Isis) is very professional on the communication side of it, even though she's in a tiny office with cats and dogs laying around.

Update. Have tried to call again today, call still not going through. Checked number with US operator who suggested dialing 011 52 before 877-640-3279. When I called that number, I got a recording stating that number was not in service. Still no replies to my email or Facebook messages. Would really appreciate some names of other rental companies to try. Thanks again.

Hey Gatos,

Please let us know what you discover. Many LG'ers have reservations in a month or so . How will we ever get to AASB ?

Seriously, probably someone dug up an electric cable or who knows what. I bet a couple of pesos that they are tying to cope with some mishap.

If you need a back up rental, send a PM to Vancouver Sundog. He has tried another company & had good experiences.

Enjoy your trip !

Gatos Padres; We rented from Tulum Car Rentals in Nov. and had good luck. They were on time at the airport and returned us promply after we turned our car back in. We didn't get the car I requested (no suprise) but gave us a very nice replacement car. Even offered to exchange it with a car in their Tulum office if we weren't satisfied with the one we took from the airport. The best part was they were the best price after comparing with the other companies.[:D]

I'd try to phone the Cancun location (near the airport) directly. From the US and Canada it's 011 52 998 886 2464

I've emailed and submitted reservation requests half a dozen times now in the past two months and have not received a response. Pretty sad since we have always used them every time. I'm now looking in to caribbean car rental.

I just called the 1-877 number about a week ago to book our car for April. I spoke directly to Jesus and received an e-mail confirmation shortly afterwards.
Will be very interested to hear what is happening....please keep us posted!

I finally got thru to the office dialing 011 52 998 886 2464. Fernando nor Jesus was available, at least that is all I could understand from Pedro. Easyway is open and doing business. However Pedro did not comprehend much english but I tried to explain that emails are not being returned and the 877 # is not working. He seemed to get the problem about the 877# and said he would check on it. I think[&:]

he said Fernando or Jesus would be in at 2pm. Once again I think its a problem of lack of communication and lack of training for new help.

The 877# gives me a fast paced busy signal which usually mean problems with the lines somewhere.

Finally success! Thanks for all the tips and particularly for the additional phone number to try. It worked and I just spoke with Fernando. It seems they did receive my emails about the change in our reservation dates, they just never bothered to get back to me with an acknowledgment. So anyone wondering if Easyway is getting your emails, it seems they are. They're just not responding to them. My connection was bad so I was unable to tell Fernando about the problem with their 1-877 number (for US and Canadian) callers, however, I will send them an email and post something on their Facebook page. So here is the number that works (apparently): 011 52 998 886 2464 This may be our last time renting with Easyway. Don't need the aggravation!

Oddly, I don't find that very reassuring. I see "red flags" popping up so please let us know how it goes. We stopped renting cars several years ago on our Akumal trips but we may rent again at some point.

I'd be very interested in seeing how it all plays out too. I am renting with Easyway end of April/May and expect it all to go down smoothly like the last time I rented with them. Pickup and checkouts were quick. Car was good. All charges were as stated. All one can ask when renting in the Yucatan. Hope it all works out.

I have noticed that rates have gone up considerably for Cancunrentacar.com recently.

Is this because it is busier now than usual? I remember VSD being able to find rates around 35/day. Right now, it is quoting me $310 for a weekly rental.

Easyway is showing up around $428 for the week. Am I doing something wrong? Is it better to call?

Since 2006 we have rented from www.cancunrentacar.com. Never never were the rates $35 per day.

You can rent a VW Bug from Isis on Cozumel for that price.

I just did online quotes for both EW and Cancun renta car. (Apr 27-May 7....full coverage insurance, automatic dodge attitudes). .....$557 for EW and $475 for cancun. That is just craziness!!!! In all my trips I have never paid that much.

The last time we were down I paid $288 with taxes and insurance. What the heck?

Just as an fyi...a few weeks ago we reserved a Nissan Tida (standard) through Easyway for our March trip. Jesus responded all of our emails within 24 hrs. Negotiated a price of $404 for 9 days with AAA and LG discount. So far we have had no problems with communication. Hopefully the rest of the reservation will go as smoothly.

We've rented 5-6 times a year for about 6 years ... all from Easyway ... and have never had any trouble. Always good service, decent cars, on time pick-up and easy return. Prices have increased some, but costs everywhere have ...

Hmmm.... I rent with easyway each year too. Last year we were at the airport for a while waiting on them. The emails for this year was slow being returned and I had to send it 2 or 3 times...can't remember.

But I don't know of another car rental (that I trust) where I can rent in Cancun and return in Playa when we cross over to Cozumel for the 2nd half of our vacation. This year I am having them pick us up at the Isla ferry too.... sure hope things get settled up - could get expensive for shuttles and still having to get a rental in Akumal.
