LaLunita going downhill?

Hi

The recent post about the disappointing meal at LaLunita reasonated with us. We too had a disappointing experience there; I ordered the beef fillet and also sent it back because it was too tough. They didn't charge us for the meal, which was good, but I sat there watching my husband eat. No alternatives were provided, I felt like they really didn't care. Service was also choppy. It is unfortunate because we have eaten at LaLunita every time were in Akumal and always enjoyed it. It as also disappointing because it was my husband's birthday, so a bit of a let down (they were also unresponsive/too slow to my email requests to set up something nice). Don't know if we will go back.

We too had a disappointing experience on a Sat night this month. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and were taken straight to our table. The waiter made a point to explain that it was Lobster Night, pointing out the special menu. We ordered one drink each and appetizers, My husband overheard another table being told they were out of lobster @ 7 pm. What a bummer when you've made up your mind to have it. Most people coming in left as soon as they were told that. We were never told. After 45 minutes with no one asking if we wanted another drink and still no appetizers, we left. It's always been an enjoyable experience and really good meal before.

I had started an earlier thread about restaurants, I'll have to go digging to find it. Most people come to the same conclusion that there is no guarantee on quality of food and service from one day to the next. It doesn't matter where the restaurant is. This is one of the reasons I don't eat out much in the US.

It would be fabulous if restaurants were consistent. Obviously we have to eat so we're stuck with what we get. When on vacation just drink more, LOL!

Enjoy and make the best of it!

Going there tomorrow evening so hoping our experience will be better. We stopped there last year in the afternoon for drinks and my husband spied the "tomahawk " porch ops on the menu so has been wanting to try it out. It will be a first for us and are hoping for good things. Will let you know how we make out.

Had supper there last night and have to say it was absolutely wonderful! We had the tomahawk pork chops and they were delicious as were the sides (creamed potatoes and spinach). A little pricey but we felt we got our money's worth. Had churro a for dessert and they were good too! We would have been smarter to order a bottle of wine - we always think we are going to drink less than we do :). So, two margaritas, 5 glasses of wine, two specialty coffees, two tomohawk pork chops, and an order of churros was $1150 pesos.... Most of that was booze (should I be embarrassed ? ). [:)]

I will budget for another visit next time we are here and maybe not so much wine ...

We have found this restaurant to be very "hit & miss" depending on the night.  Can't beat the location and view!
