Catalonia Playa Maroma

Does anyone know where the Privileged Superior rooms are located at the CPM? Also any information on snorkeling in the area would be helpful

Stayed there in November. The Priveledged rooms are the building closest to the beach. Very nice beach, but not much to see snorkeling. Just a short drive north to Puerto Morelos for good snorkeling

We stayed there a few yrs ago and LOVED it . Try to get bldg. 6. It has a little sand path (50 steps) to the beach and almost next to the pool, beach bar, and creperie. The rooms are nice and and the food is wonderful

U would need to take a boat ride to snorkel in PM. If you have a car, go down to Akumal!

Travelon done both but would like to try PM again, Akumal when we are closer. Do you remember if the bedding (pillows etc) was feathers or Hypo-allergenic?

The snorkeling right off the beach was not good. The bottom is all sand till beyond the roped area, and there was a fair amount of boat traffic outside the ropes when I was there in 2012. The dive shop did run a boat to a near by reef for snorkeling. My daughters did that one day when my son-in-law and I where out diving, and they said it was great.

We had privileged rooms and we where in the second building back on the north side.

take me to your blender...

We just booked at CPM in April, we are very fond of the Palladium but I couldn't pass up this deal. We booked through one of the big consolidators, again I couldn't pass it up because they were running a $150 coupon. The room choices were Privileged Comfort and Privileged Superior. I couldn't find a big difference between the two, so picked Comfort. It looks like the furniture is a little different, maybe they were some of the first to be renovated to Privileged?

Anyway, I was able to stalk some trip reports on TA and saw that there were comfort rooms in Building 6, and that seems to be the best bet.

It seems like it might be somewhere between ABR (old school ABR from 2006-2007ish) and Palladium in terms of fanciness and quality? We don't need a la carte every night, buffet is fine if there is some variety, a grill station, etc.

The beach bar sounds FANTASTIC for evenings. We don't stay up past 11 down there anyway!

My "first world problem" right now is deciding on transportation. I have asked on TA if anyone had walked to the highway. It's a mile, the distance is fine for me, but people have said it's buggy and dangerous due to traffic. Is that the case? Some people's "dangerous" may not match my definition.

We drove all the time when we were coming down in 2007-2009 and staying in condos. So was considering driving, but as others have mentioned it seems that prices have gone up, especially for 0 deductible. I've been reading the easyway/caribbean/cancun threads, looks like easyway is still a good choice if renting from the airport.

Anyway we are super excited. Since having our son in 2010 we have only made it down once in 2012. We are overdue. It will just be the two of us, bringing Brian on vacation isn't really a vacation for anyone yet, he is a typical 3 year old, very attached to his routine and after a few days away from preschool starts to lose his cool. We take him to the beach in the summer and we have a good time, but like I said he would rather be keeping his schedule.

So any and all CPM tips are welcome!!

Midtowngirl if you like the palladium the are only a few things that will be different. First is the size the CPM is small, so that means a few less ala carte dining 4 verses 12 but the food quality is good but with the privileged rooms you have access to the restaurant above the beach bar for breakfast and lunch so no walking to the buffet which is about a 10 minute walk from the beach. Oh did I mention if you are in Building 6 you are 100 feet from the beach in a area reserved for privileged guests. I did not experience any problem with the staff and when speaking English and my minor knowledge of Spanish. Be prepared for lots of Europeans both French and Italian. Both tours companies have animation staff so all announcements are in Spanish, French Italian and English. I would say only about 30% of the guest spoke English but that could change from week to week. Shows each night are standard fare for the Mayan. If you like to walk the beach is unbelievable. we walked about 3.5 miles to the south until you reach the Eldorado marine and about 4 miles to the north until we reached the Valentin but you could continue more if you wanted. When been to the Palladium and the CPM fits better for us.

Thanks. Do you stay in a privileged comfort or privileged superior room? What is the difference?

Are any of the bathrooms renovated? Are they in good condition? I saw some scary pictures on TA but they were isolated, most reviews indicated the bathrooms were older but well maintained.

Our booking specify comfort or Superior just a privileged room. I would say the bathroom had been recently renovated. Shower and Toilet in 1 room and Vanity in the next. The shower does not have a door so the back is open, it has a rainhead and handheld spray. The floor can get a little wet .

Any chance you could bring a Nanny to watch your little guy? If not, you may want to inquire and see if they have suitable babysitting services at the resort - perhaps you could at least have an evening dinner and maybe a day trip away and know you're little babe is safe and then you can enjoy a "date" dinner or half day date.

CPM does have a kids club but when we were there last May there did not seem to be many families using it. I am sure they do offer babysitting for an additional fee. Regarding walking to the highway - no way would I advise this. It is very far, not well lighted (sometimes the taxis even had difficulty getting to the right resort), buggy and very uneven. When we were there it was still not even half way finished and at the rate they were moving I would be shocked if it was finished this time next year.

Bldg 5 is by far the best! If you can't get it, go for bldg. 5
