A note to any who are planning a trip to coincide with the tournament. Up to now it has been called the Mayakoba Classic and held every February. This year they have renamed it to the OHL Classic in Mayakoba and will be from November 14-17.

Hey Fred, do you know what you'll be doing? I was thinking about doing the same thing.

I attended the 2012 event. I had an awesome time - players are very accessible for autographs after their rounds - it's less roped off than a usual tour event since the crowd sizes aren't as large.

Note with the November date, it is no longer a 2nd event vs. the WGC Match Play in Arizona, although a lot of the star players usually take a break this time of year so it's hard to say what the impact to the field will be.

    Last in Mexico Mar 13 to 20, 2018 [18th trip to MEX, 14x to RM (1998 to 2018), 9x to HMB (2006 to 2016)]

That's Awesome ! The inaugural year - 2007 was won by
Fred Funk - Former Univ. of MD Golf Coach and obviously
PGA Tour player. [You can tell I'm a MD grad. a sports fan]
Yes ....I read that the Mayakoba Classic
has its own date now and almost doubled the purse to $6M
paying out $1 million to the winner. Certainly should attract
some of the better players on the tour now versus in years
    past. Congratulations Fred - You will have a blast - I'm a
    little jealous.

No idea what I'll be doing, but that's OK. I've been told they're looking for more people, so if you're available...

I attended the Canadian Open in 2001 on the Sunday as a spectator and had a blast. And Dollar, you're right, the prize money was only 3.7 million last February and 6 million this year, so maybe they will get some bigger names. I know the February date was also conflicting with another event, so perhaps that problem was solved with the move to November.

Unfortunately, never did get the call! I volunteered and was given the impression I was in. A couple of weeks ago I hadn't heard anything and was contemplating calling someone when I heard they were already all at Mayakoba for an orientation! ****? This kind of thing happens a lot in Mexico, lots of hype up front and then no follow-up. Frankly, with the weather as it was the first two days I wasn't terribly disappointed. Maybe next year! [:D]

Any idea what OHL stands for - other than Ontario Hockey League?

And that matters in Mexico?  By the way, how is the Postal Service down there?  Better check the date and make sure it wasn't confirmation for last February's Classic

Seriously Fred, how is the Postal Service?  How long would it take if you mailed a letter to Mexico City?  Just curious!

It's not good, Frank. People sent us Christmas cards 3 or 4 years ago and we never got 'em. Then once I got a CD delivered from the States 4 days after I ordered it. You just never know, and I certainly wouldn't have anything important or valuable sent through the mail here, in either direction.
