RE: Whale Shark Tour Question
We went with MexicoWhaleShark.com last Saturday- picked up by van in Akumal at 5:45am, and returned around 4pm. Price was $160/adults, and $110 each for our 8 and 10yo kids.
They drove us to the docks in Cancun where the ferry to Isla Mujeres departs. Boat ride out was about and hour and fifteen minutes. LOADS of whale sharks in the area- I conservatively estimate at least 50 within site of the boat. Had several mantas also coming up to feed right underneath us!
The boat was a 30-foot open dive boat with two canopies for sun protection. 10 passengers, plus Capt. and guide.
If you are even slightly prone to motion sickness, be sure to take medication at least 2 hours before departure!!! While not dangerous, it is a very bouncy ride. While we were fine, 4 of the 6 other people on board did get sea sick. We dosed with Meclazine (Bonine) and Ginger pills both the night before as well as first thing in the morning, and had no problem at all.
It was a FABULOUS experience, and I highly recommend it!
