Oh my goodness!  I see that the last time I posted here was December, 2012. How did that happen? I don't know. Happy to be back.

I used to live on Park Ave in Ra cha cha. I worked for an ad agency that worked on... you guessed it Kodak and bausch and lomb business. I loved living here but this was in the early 80's.

Greetings-  My name is Jace.  I am from Twinsburg, Ohio.
My wife and I met a couple on our flight to Cancun in the early 1980's. We hit it off great and decided to rent a jeep for the week to travel the Yucatan and find some great snorkeling. Driving through what was all jungle at the time towards Tulum, we saw a dirt path heading toward the beach. As we drove "off road" to the beach we saw an old, very small Airstream trailer which was occupied by an elderly woman from South Carolina. Her name was Pat Quattlebaum. She was very weathered and a bit cantankerous (at first), being very protective of "her beach". She warmed to us and explained that she was their to "Save the Loggerhead Turtles from Extinction". She had created a crude yet very elaborate system for collecting newly hatched turtle eggs and placing them in sand pits where she could watch them and save them from natural predators and people who hunted them for aphrodisiacs. As the baby turtles hatched (by the hundreds), she helped them find their way to the ocean. She lived on the beach in the sweltering heat without electricity and air conditioning. My son and I returned to the beach in 2000 and found that Pat had created a much more elaborate system for protecting the eggs and was launching several thousand baby turtles back to the ocean with a handful of Mayan volunteers. She also had built several crude but large tanks where she kept several pets. One (or rather two) was a two headed turtle that she called BoBo and BooBoo. Both BoBo and BooBoo had distinct personalities. They were at the far end of the tank when she tapped on the side of the wooden frame calling their names. BoBo tried to swim to the left while BooBoo tried to swim to the right to turn and come to see us. It was precious! They finally made their way to us and seemed to coo as we petted their shared shell. They actually can feel when you pet their shell. Pat explained that they would not have survived very long as babies in the ocean and that she was pretty sure that they were the only Siamese turtles in the world. She also had a full grown Albino Loggerhead. She felt that he was also the only one of his kind in the world as the mortality rate of a baby Loggerhead turtles was less than 5% and an Albino Loggerhead turtle was extremely rare to begin with. I will be going through photos to find pictures of Pat and the turtles and I will post them as I find them.

I'm RyanA from Victoria, BC.

May 2017 will be my 5th visit to Akumal. The first three times were at the old Akumal Beach Resort. Last time, we tried Grand Baha'i Principe. We're excited to be renting a condo in Half Moon Bay for the first time.

I can't get enough of the beach time; snorkelling; reading; walking; eating tacos.

Favourite drink: rum and cola.
