Hello all my name is Mark (8man) along with my beautiful wife Stacey.
Both in our early 40's
Drew my screen name from my Rugby days as I played the 8man position

We are from St. Petersburg Pennsylvania (N.West Pa.)

This is our 1st trip to the area and are super excited . We have recently caught the travel bug and have visited St. Marteen and St. Thomas , we really look forward to exploring the Akumal area (1st trip without our 2 boys) this will be our late honeymoon, celebrated our 15th anniversary yesterday.

We love snorkeling and are total beach/water bums . My wife is a state champion swimmer (many moons ago in high school) so she is hard to get out of the water .We are foodies in search of local flavors and expieriences and meeting new people.

Our drink choices are all over ! We love colads and frozen drinks but also enjoy ice cold cervesas !

We are soooo excited for our first Riviera Maya vacation !! 14 days and a wake up !!!![:D]

Obligatory Introduction 2013/05/13 15:10:01 (permalink)

Hola. My first trip to mexico was in the mid 1980s (an epic, 3-month adventure down Baja, took the old ferry to the mainland, then continued south almost to Guatemala, up and over the mountains of Chiapas the to the Yucatan). I've been back a half-dozen times, each visit with growing apprehension and increasing dismay over the changes I saw. Last trip was about 10 years ago (Cozumel, all around Yucatan). Thinking about a return in 2014 to bring some family.

Hello, just registered again. Thought I registered last season but can not find password etc.
Been going to Isla Mujerus for 10 years but have ventured out (down) To Akumal and Tulume last three seasons. Staying in the French Angel on the Yal Ku lagoon for several days then road trip to Tulume for several more days. Then up to Isla Mujerus for last three days. What car rental company do most of you use? Alamo is whom we have reserved a Toyota Camery so far. I know, get all the insurance and just hold back the cuss words. Glad to be part of the Forum. Peace, Boz

What has changed in the riviera area since you first began visiting?

What has changed? When we first went to cancun in 1988 club med was the only AI. The Beach Club (now the beach palace) was the last hotel on the strip. There were so many good restaurants. Great taverns with beautiful water views. The last one we went to our view was of the monster RUI being built. There was one mall with just a few stores. Snorkeling trips weren't crowded and the abundance of sea life has spoiled me. There would be continual construction. Which never bothered us. Restaurants would come & go. Resorts became AI. We started heading further out. Stayed on Isla and loved it. Has gotten crowded but still live it. Cozumel had one street with a few places to eat and a bar. We went for the diving & snorkeling. Can't imagine it ever being as good as it was in the late 80's. We hit a few AI in RM. One AI is just like another so we ventured out. Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, St. Martiin, Jamaica, Punta Cana, Hawaii. Some more than once.
The biggest change would be the upgraded plumbing and water treatment. With all the cons that commercialization brings, upgraded water & sewage treatment is a major plus.
