I ate this stuff at ABR almost every morning!! Loved, loved, LOVED it, trying to figure out how to make it here too!

I learned to like it on our first trip to ABR too!

I'm enjoying this.
Do you have a picture of him after the margaritas?

That wouldn't be a pretty picture!

What a fun report to read and GREAT photos! Gracias!

I take it there is no added charge for the friendly yellow gato? What a cutie.

Thank you for reading! No added charge (unless you count the cat food we bought him at Super Chomak) But the next inhabitants of the room may not liking him scratching on the doors at 6am! [;)]

Thanks, 9krazycats! Your report was definitely worth the wait! Is there more to come?

More to come yes! I have to work late a few nights this week but hope to finish up asap. Lot's more food pics from Tequilaville, Turtle Bay, and La Buena Vida and a side trip to PDC.

Did they have a small foot wash basin at the balcony door so one doesn't track sand in the room?
Also... can you drag the lounger chairs onto your balcony ... I hate those plastic ones. :)

Oh.. and all the food.. were all those pics at the Lol Ha?

They had the foot wash basin by the front door, but not the patio. Kind of a bummer. Would have been nice there too! The loungers are too big to fit on the patio. So far all the pictures are Lol Ha, but more to come!

Jim's morning after breakfast

[image][/image]

Mine was better...if you have never had the breakfast burrito at Turtle Bay, you must try it!

[image][/image]

Chilaquiles with green sauce.

[image][/image]

Turtle Bay Skillet

[image][/image]

Turtle Bay is one of our favorite places!

[image][/image]

We only ate at Loncheria once, but it was good.

[image][/image]

We both had the mexicana omelet. (and that's beans, not mole sauce...the runniest beans I've ever eaten!)

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

ON TO CUEVA!!!

The famous Margaritas! The lady at the next table kept telling us if we drank the whole pitcher we would be so out of it and sick the next day. (I was afraid to drink it!) We felt good when we left, but it didn't kill us and neither of us had a hangover the next day. I tell you...she really had me going!
We had them again another night and they weren't even as strong as the first time, but very tasty!

[image][/image]

Obviously the guys in this photo must have had a few of those pitchers. They were having a great time. I didn't realize it until I just posted the picture that the one looks like he pee'd his pantalones!

[image][/image]

I didn't take pictures of my legs, but this was a very hot, humid night and the night I got over 35 mosquito bites just on my left leg. It took 2 nights until they started itching so bad that it kept me awake. Super Chomak to the rescue! She gave me some Eurax cream and that really helped heal them. I still have 2 that are pretty bad today.

Cuevas Shrimp Skewer

[image][/image]

Garlic Butter Shrimp on Spaghetti...one of my best meals the whole trip!

[image][/image]

Veracruz Shrimp

[image][/image]

As I said...he's a ham and this was after we started drinking the pitcher!

[image][/image]

I bet you already guessed that Shrimp is one of our favorite foods. Thanks to Turdle's report and pictures I knew what to order when we got there! Still....have never had a shrimp taco in Akumal yet. One of many reasons to go back.

TO BE CONTINUED.....

After 5 straight days of doing nothing but sitting in the lounge chairs and staring at the ocean, we decided to venture out for our first trip to Playa Del Carmen. We walked the hot, humid path to the Hwy and the collectivo stop.

[image][/image]

Darn...I forgot to upload the picture to photobucket. Anyways...we walked to where that little white car in the picture is and waited for the collectivo to come by and jumped on.

[image][/image]

We didn't say anything and no one said anything to us. (we were soakin wet with sweat). After about 30 minutes and a few stops to let people off, we came to PDC, but not sure where we were suppose to get off. I thought I had read online that it takes you to a station in PDC and that's what we were hoping! Thank God I was right!
It parked we got off and the driver told us to walk 2 blocks to 5th. We're not shoppers, but we wanted to see 5th. It was so friggin hot! We couldn't keep sunscreen on us and sweat was pouring down our faces. We stopped at the first bar we found for refreshments. Collectivo was $30 pesos each. While we were here at the bar I decided to text a girl at work "hola from a bar in PDC" she text me back "12 people just got laid off" I text her back.."time for another drink! Hope we have jobs when we get back!"

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

The lines some of these guys use to get you into there stores are amazing, but we didn't enter a single one!

[image][/image]

Lots of pretty hotels, but I can't imagine relaxing with the chairs so close. We walked down to the beach thinking there would be a breeze like the one in Akumal under the palm trees, but it was worse than being on 5th!

[image][/image]

After walking back up from the beach, we decided (I decided) I was just too hot to walk back to the collectivo station, my clothes were soaked with sweat, so we flagged down a taxi to take us back to Akumal and La Buena Vida for lunch. $35 USD for the trip back, but sooooo worth it! As we passed Puerto Adventuras ( I think that was the town 1/2 way back) it poured rain!

Got to La Buena Vida and it was much cooler! It wasn't raining here at the moment.

[image][/image]

We ordered the Botaneras Plate (another thanks to Hallin and Turdle) and you just can't go wrong with this meal!

[image][/image]

The picture below is not Turdle or Hallin suggested...I don't think they eat cheese!

[image][/image]

As we ate our meal, the thunder and lightening in the distance was beautiful and we had a few raindrops. Not enough to take cover though.

[image][/image]

And then it was clear again!

[image][/image]

We took a walk down Half Moon Bay and checked out some of the condos.

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

After that we were soaked and thirsty so stopped back at LBV for another drink and waited for the sun to lower and then walked back to HAC.

[image][/image]

NEXT...On to Tequilaville!

OMG, one word comes to mind about your report ---- AWESOME ! Thanks for all of the food porn pics. I just had breakfast and am ready to eat again now. Had to chuckle about your comment on the shopkeepers in PDC. They have some great lines of trash talk to get you to come into their stores, that's for sure. My fav is "come in here honeymooners". My reply is "This isn't my wife, she's my mistress" and then I keep on walking while they try to pick their chins up off of the ground. [:D]

I can't wait to see the next chapter of your adventure ! ! !

Great report Krazy. You must have been there for a long time. That is a LOT of food. I think our favorite place is Turtle Bay. We ate there a few times last trip. We loved LBV too, especially the Botaneras Plate. It is a crazy amount of food and so delicious.

I too, hope you still have your job.

This is seriously one of the best trip reports EVER!!  You guys are hilarious and so cute!  Question though, holy mole....the Loncheria prices have gone UP!!  Am I reading that right, 95 pesos for an entree??!  I have a similar photo from a few years ago...45 pesos!  Gulp.  Oh well...I guess they're finally jumping on the bandwagon.  Darn.

Keep 'em coming.  I've heard about this Tequilaville place....some negative, some positive.  Looking forward to your take.  [:)][:D]

Schnauz, the loungers around the pool are supposed to stay at the pool. They are very comfy and have cushions.  The plastic ones are for the beach and pool use too.   [:D]  The pool is only steps from your back door (literally) so you wouldn't really need to bring them to your unit.

Haven't a clue on the bones!

Loving your report 9krazycats! I hope it never ends and glad you still had your job when you returned.

I wish it didn't have to end, but I do have a bit more. Yes...we still have jobs. Since they laid off so many people everyone is shorthanded now it's snowballing down the line and work is piling up. Will try to post more tonight, but had to work late! After we got back they remodeled, (the landlord paid for it) and Jim had to work 11 days straight. He's going to have a whopping check this week. Yay.....we can go back to Akumal!

My fav is "come in here honeymooners".

Glad you are enjoying my report. I always enjoy yours! They used that same line on us as we walked by!!

I've heard about this Tequilaville place....some negative, some positive.

Yummy...mine is all postive! [:D]

On with the report...

So we decided it was too darn hot to walk to the Pueblo to go to Tequilaville so we took a taxi. $50 pesos to get there. We walked in and there was no one there, but a guy at the bar. Then the owner Ken came out and turned on a ceiling fan for us and we chatted a bit. Him and his wife Mary are really nice and made us feel welcome.

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

We had some freshly made guacamole...soooo good (no picture because Jim ate it too fast). Then I had one of the best meals of the trip!

Garlic Butter Shrimp, veggies, and rice...everything to my perfect taste!

[image][/image]

Jim ordered the Chipotle Grouper...very good, but I would go with less sauce next time.

[image][/image]

We chatted some more and drank a few beers, paid our bill and were getting up to leave when Ken came over with two shots and said "you can't leave tequilaville without having a shot of tequila!" Well...as much as you guys may not believe me, I have NEVER HAD A SHOT OF ANYTHING in my 51 years of life. (yes..I turned 51 the next day while in Akumal) So....I did it. I had my first shot EVER and it wasn't bad at all! Thank you Ken! (my report is a little out of order....the shots at Lol Ha were the day AFTER my birthday!) [;)]

Anyways...he said he makes a real good burger and we told him we would be back in a few days to try it.

So now it's dark and we are tipsy and start to walk back to HAC.

[image][/image]

Lots of buzzing bugs and noises to listen to. (and take pictures of)

[image][/image]

Ok ...so I forgot to upload the moth picture to photobucket! (and a few other pictures I will put a misc. picture post at the end of the report)

Made a quick stop at Super Chomak for more yogurt and cat food for Little Jorge.

[image][/image]

Someone on another thread said it had been remodeled, but we had never been in there on our previous trips to RM, so here are some pics for you.

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

We did most of our shopping there, but did go into the Pueblito store when Chomak was out of yogurt and found it there. We also used the internet to check our flight home and email the day before we left. $20 pesos for 1/2 hour, but no printer so couldn't print our boarding passes.

And I almost forgot...we did go back to Tequilaville and have that Cheeseburger. 75% beef 25% pork. Really juicy and good. The fries were freshly made and really good too.
They also had live music. Ok...it wasn't a local or anything mexican...I think he said he was from Nevada, but enjoyed listening to him. A few other couples were there this night and it was very warm again. We walked to and from this time...no taxi. (or should I say stumbled back?) Jorge who checked us in at the hotel came in and we found out he works there in the evenings sometimes to help out. We ran in to him everywhere! I have some videos I may have to upload also so you can see him and and hear the guy at Tequilaville. Well, here's that juicy cheeseburger.

[image][/image]

Well that about sums it up.....USA Transfers picked us up on time and we made it to the airport in 53 minutes! Ate at Bubba Gumps there and I had the Shrimp Scampi (forgetting I would be sitting on a plane for 4-1/2 hours next to someone with my garlic breath! Oh well....) Got to LAX at 9:30pm, took SuperShuttle home and in bed at 1am and had to get up for work at 5am.

Here are two of my favorite pictures...ok I have more than two, but I really like these for some reason.

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

So thank you all for reading and maybe next weekend I'll have time to fill in with some videos and miscellaneous. It was an awesome trip and we plan on going back next May!

Buh bye!

Thanks for the report. Great pictures and we have to visit Tequilaville when we go down  in Oct. I would love to do a walking tour of the Pueblo, with pictures, and see what has changed. I still want to go into the hardware store there.[:)]

A truly great report! You travel like we do... it's all about relaxing on the beach and the FOOD!

So, I do have a few questions.... you said there were ants on the patio, were there any bugs in your room? That's my biggest fear about staying on the ground floor. I booked us a third floor room (we've had issues before with noisy people above us) but just last night hubby said he wanted a ground floor... [&:]

You said ran out of coffee kits and bought extra - did you buy extra kits or just coffee and filters?

Loved the pictures of all of the different "parts" of the room - can anyone tell me if the fridge in room 401 is the same as the fridges in the kitchenette rooms, or do the kitchenettes have larger fridges?

Is the A/C adjustable? Just wondered because you said you would step out of the room to get warmed up....

I love that they have a couple of little tables around the room, it's nice to have places to set stuff. And the dresser looks huge! You said the drawers were kind of wobbly opening up - did they have a funky smell to them, when you took your clothes out did they smell okay? We had that issue once at the GBP... kind of a "icky wood" smell.

The bathroom countertop is small - on our cruise we took a clear plastic over-the-door shoe holder to use for things that I normally would have put on the bathroom countertop, does anyone know if that would hang on the outside of the closet door, or how do those open? Looks like it would be convenient enough, if it would work. Or, does anyone else have a suggestion? Unfortunately, I'm kind of "high maintenance" when it comes to bathroom products! Also, is there any kind of shelf inside the shower?

Did the Lol-Ha run you a tab, or did you have to pay every time you ate there? I know we'll be eating there frequently, just because of the convenience (we're lazy on vacation!)

Thanks SO MUCH for the fantastic review, and all of the great pictures you took! My "trip anticipation" is in high gear!

I've found those pesky little critters can live on any floor SIMP.   I think they live in the walls.    I'd second your DH's vote and go for the ground floor.  So convenient especially with your young son.    :)

I've emailed LG and asked if we can still switch, want to keep the hubby happy! And - ants don't bother me at all (other than those little red ones that bite!), it's the other critters that I'm concerned about!
