Hotel Akumal Caribe Rm 401 Trip Report

OK..
Finally got how to post the pictures.
Room 401 Vista View Room Bottom Floor - We had booked 2nd or 3rd floor, so when Jorge took us to our room we were disappointed to see him opening the door on the bottom floor. The next day we were glad we had the bottom floor as it was so convenient to just step out onto the beach. The only downside was not being to leave the curtains open when we slept so that the sun would wake us up early. Needless to say, we slept in most mornings and never had an early beach walk.

We never used the front balcony. It was nice to have the window to look out and see what was going on that side of the beach, but never actually sat out there.

Yes the bed is concrete, but the mattress was really comfortable, and with it being concrete, there was no squeeking and no headboard banging (if you know what I mean) [;)]

[image][/image]

The room came with two coffee kits and we went to Super Chomak and bought extras. They have sugar, creamer, and spoons included. The spoons came in handy because we needed them for the yogurt we bought and ate daily. Never had any stomach problems while we were there. (except for the night we had too much to drink at Lol Ha) Love the Frutas Y Cereales stuff!

[image][/image][image][/image]

The fridge had two ice trays in the top. We were able to put in two 6 packs, some water, soft drinks, and 3 medium size yogurts with no problem. Kept things very cold.

[image][/image]

The room was perfect size and the area behind the wall next to the little cut out window was perfect for dressing even if the curtains were open. The window cut out was wide
enough that we put our deodorant, fan, brushes, and other stuff that didn't fit on the sink.

[image][/image]

The dresser has plenty of room for clothes although they are kind of wobbly opening. The A/C worked so good that we would freeze after a bit and go back in the sun to warm up.

[image][/image]

The maid would pick us fresh flowers almost daily. The room was never musty or mildew smelling.

[image][/image]

Had to hold the handle down on the toilet and count to 5, but everything works well. The shower head is very tall and the water pressure very good.

[image][/image]

Not alot of room on the sink for stuff, but most we left in bags on the top shelf of the closet which you can see in the reflection. Plenty of room in the closet and about 10 hangers or so provided.

Morris, AKA Peaches, AKA Little Jorge...was a nice fixture on our patio during the day. What a friendly gato!

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

View from front balcony...Jim is on the chair. That is where we laid every day. The first 4 days we did NOTHING at all but stare at the view. (it was way to friggin hot to go sightseeing!)

[image][/image]

View from back patio. We sat out here alot, but there are some tiny little ants wandering around (I am paranoid of ants) and some GIANT ones (just 1 or 2), but I think next time I am taking some raid with me! Not enough ants to make a difference to any one else probably, but I have issues with them. Give me snakes, lizards, spiders, anything else but ants!

[image][/image]

The pool was nice, but we only used it twice. There was a really noisy family and the little girl (about 7 or so) just made shreiking sounds all day, so we avoided it.
I liked that the pool was open until 10pm though were other places we have stayed close around 6 or 7pm.

[image][/image]

I probalby have about 20 shots of this view. Everyday I would take the same pictures. Just couldn't help myself it was so beautiful and relaxing.

OK...so here I will insert some fish pictures, but not of snorkeling. We are still newbies at snorkeling, so didn't do the camera thing. Day 5 we finally ventured out to snorkel.
Didn't get far or see much as we didn't have fins. The next day we rented fins from the dive center $140 pesos total. Putting the on I tripped and bent my big toe back. We snorkeled and got much more distance, but I got major blisters on my toes. I thought Jim was next to me and turned and it was a large turtle! My first sighting ever. We saw others down by ABR the next day. Lots of fish, sting rays, but no Barry. Didn't use fins the next times out as it hurt the blisters and I had sprained my toe. Hobbled around for the next few days.

Lots of fish right next to shore though. You'll have to look closely at the last two. I know they are there though!

Commercial time!

[image][/image]

We flew Virgin America for the first time. Loved the soft purple lights inside and the leather seats. Hubby loved the seat back in front of him where he could slide his credit card into it and order whatever food and drink they had available on their menu! [;)] Very nice flight to and from.

OK...Customs.....Got to Cancun at 5:30pm the lines were loooooonnnnngggg. The people in front of us said they had been waiting two hours! I was worried USA transfers may not wait for us. Finally got through and the ride to HAC was just an hour, but we checked in at 9pm and dropped our bags in our room and headed to Lol Ha knowing they were all that was open until 9:30 and we had Cheeseburgers in Paradise!!!! Oh so good! (no picture of it though)

Which brings us to the next topic....FOOD PORN...sponsored by Lol Ha! (we ate there the most being that HAC gave us those meal tickets for breakfast)

Need to take a break....be back soon!

Lol Ha has the nicest waiters. This was Rudy. We told him we had a cat named Rudy at home and we call him Woo Woo but that we wouldn't call him that! He said it was ok if we did. Nice guy...Jim learned a new word from him ....servilletta...means napkin. We are always asking for more napkins wherever we eat! He's friends with Jim on Facebook now! Works 25 days and then goes home for 5 days. Lives 3 hours away.

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

Wish I had gotten a picture of the other two waiters we had. Rudy and Jesus were also leaving to visit home the same day we left.

This was the amazing view we had at breakfast every time at Lol Ha.
[image][/image]

I know, I know...get to the food!

So HAC gave us the tickets for the free continental breakfast for 2. So I don't like fruit...and we don't do continental. We love breakfast! They would let us put the tickets towards whatever we ate off the menu.

My absolute breakfast favorite....the mexican scrambled egg sandwich! I had this 3 times! Ok...it didn't say on the menu it came with watermelon. Jim ate it. By the 3rd time I was smart enough to order beans instead.
Yummy bacon, eggs, cheese, tomato, onions, and jalapenos on a roll.

[image][/image]

Chilaquiles with red sauce
[image][/image]

Breakfast omelet with poblano sauce

[image][/image]

Mexican Scrambled Eggs...soooo good!

[image][/image]

And I love Eggs Benedict!

[image][/image]

And from the breakfast buffet:

[image][/image]

Image is a little blurry. I found that after leaving our room I couldn't take pictures for about 15 minutes or so until it defogged from the A/C!

Jim says their oatmeal is really good.

[image][/image]

Next up.....lunch!

I am not a ceviche person, but this was so good and chunky and fresh! I have to say after 10 days of chips and salsa with almost every meal, I was so sick of chips and salsa! Our last dinner there we ordered bread!

[image][/image]

Burrito

[image][/image]

Another one of my favorites...the crispy chicken wrap. Notice the Super Chomak coolers in the back. It was sooo hot when we were there that after one drink the beer was already warm. We bought the coolers and took them to our next meals. What a difference!

[image][/image]

Flautas...where I come from flautas are flour tortillas. These were more like taquitos with corn torts. Still very yuumy!

[image][/image]

Mexican Torta Sandwich

[image][/image]

Cheese stuffed Hot Dog wrapped with bacon

[image][/image]

Night time is upon us....time for Dinner!

Salad for starter.

[image][/image]

Shrimp Diablo appetizer ..if you don't like goat cheese, don't order it! Shrimp stuffed with goat cheese wrapped in bacon with onion rings and sauce.

[image][/image]

Chilean Sea Bass on Linguine

[image][/image]

Chile Relleno

[image][/image]

Garlic Grouper....very good!

[image][/image]

Kingfish with poblano sauce

[image][/image]

Mayan BBQ Pork Tacos

[image][/image]

Seafood Skewers..ok..image is blurry..I'm blaming it on the margaritas in the background. More on that later.

[image][/image]

Honorable mentions for Lol Ha that we didn't get pictures of: jalapeno poppers, ham and pineapple pizza with jalapenos, potato cakes, and Loquitos tacos, empanadas, and quesadillas!

WE had entertainment one night at Lol Ha...the Flamenco Dancers.

[image][/image]

So JIm promised a girl at our work that we would have a shot of Tres Generations tequila for her while we were there. We ordered two. This was after a few margaritas. Then after dinner and they were getting ready to close, we moved up to the bar area and we had already paid "la quenta" and they brought us 2 or 3 more! This was the night we got sick. We stumbled back to the room and not even 15 minutes later were at "el excusado". Layed down on the cold tile floor and got up a few hours later freezing and climbed in bed. Woke up fine, but Jim was pretty nauseous still. I made him go to breakfast with me though around 10am at Turtle Bay. (which will be my next installment!)

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

[image][/image]

OK...he's a ham...the last picture was before we started drinking!

Note: Margaritas at happy hour if they are strawberry have no buzz to them. I had four on another occasion. Don't know about other flavors, but I will not drinks margaritas there at hour hour. After happy hour they are delicious!

Great report, love, love, love all the pics! Sorry, but so funny about the ants. I have a fear of earth worms and I'm an entomologist, go figure. I always say "I'd rather have a black widow near me than an earth worm, jejeje

Love the HAC, had Room 402 this past May.

The ceviche is good, if you get sick of chips, ask them for these yummy buttery crackers they have (prefer them with ceviche).

Loving your pics and thanks for the report.

Ya know, I've often wondered about Lol Ha's margs.  Last time we were there I actually stood there and watched the guy like a hawk to make sure he put tequila in it!!  Great report!  I'll be staying one night at HAC, room 407, so I really enjoyed looking at your pics to get a feel for where we're staying.
