Unwanted house guests will DIE!

I'm ready to turn into a stone cold killer up in this *****. When I got back from Mexico I noticed mouse droppings on my dryer. Just above it is where I stored my dog treats. So I tossed the treats and went on my way. Mistake! Yesterday I noticed they are in one of my lesser used kitchen pantries eating up dog food and bird seed.

I immediately sprung into action. It's war now! I stored everything that isn't in a can, in sealed plastic containers and located the point of entry. They chewed through my clothes dryer vent. I'll replace that today and since they know their way in through that, I'm going to add mouse poison inside the dryer vent. Come and get it mousey. Anything else I should be doing here? I would prefer not to have poison in the pantries because I don't want them consuming it then dying in the house somewhere. Maybe the old school, wooden, decapitation method for the pantries if they happen to chew through the dryer vent again? I want to stop this now and I've never dealt with these nasty critters. Maybe I should join Texas Cat Rescue. [:D]

So do you peel 'em off and squish 'em or just let them die on the mat?

Uh-oh, now I'm thinking of the episode of Married with Children where Al goes to war with a mouse for days and the exterminator captures it in ten seconds flat.

We had the same problem a couple months back...it was horrible.  Hundreds of dollars of cupboard food had to be tossed as they found their way in.  The best thing we did was use the poison and then get the cheap traps at Walmart...we caught all of them within a couple hours with those things.  Best $1.97 for 2 traps ever spent!!!  Good luck to you....I understand mice are living creatures too but THEY SUCK!!!

Do you not believe in karma?  Whether you like mice or not, that is downright cruel[:(] Living in the country, we have had mice set up shop inside before. The best way I found to get rid of them is cats!

I cannot stand to see any animal suffer. If the cats bring me a mouse that isn't dead yet, I rescue it and set it free. [:)]

DougSR I feel your pain. To beat them you need to find where they're getting in. You can rid the house of them once, twice or three times only to find them  re-populating at repeating intervals. Very frustrating when you think you have them beat. You need to inspect the outside of the home to find the point of entry. In my case it was under the siding where wood frame meets the foundation. Use a mirror to 'look up' under awkward spots that you can't see. Check the entire perimeter. When you find openings spray with expanding foam to plug the entry. If you inspect thoroughly you will find the obvious hi-way they're using for free passage. Good luck.

My opinions - dont mess with the sticky stuff.  Get a bunch of snap traps and set them out. After a few days you will be rodent free. You need to look for every way possible they could enter your house. Put your rat hat on and think like a rodent.

Edit...listen to morning dive...seal those cracks and crevices.

Like I said, dryer vent was chewed through. I have a new one. I just need to install it and add some poison in there. I also have the sticky mats. I'd like to be able to cut them to completely encircle my vent outside the house.

Beachbilly, I want to hear them scream. They carry diseases.

Ha HA! " Unwanted house guests will die" Reminds me of sign I saw on somones house recently with a picture of a gun . Mice are such a pain in the butt. I battled them in my attic and a shed. They gross me out. 1500.00 later the mice busters took them out with the poison that makes them leave the area looking for water and sealing up all entry points . The mistake I made was buying live traps at first becasue I felt bad about ending their lives. . I also cut back some taller hedges away from house so they couldn't enter or get on the house. The kittie thing didn't work I have five of them [:D] Keep that battle going Mr. Doug so you don't have to drop dollars like I did.

BB - you are so sweet and you know I love you, but I hate those mice that try to break into the house.  Nasty little things, I almost hate them as much as snakes!

Seagoat had a big battle with them previously.  You need to check that thread and see what worked for her finally.

The poison is a problem cause they may eat it and then die in the walls or in the attic - and then they start stinking. I've had fairly good luck with the snap traps and peanut butter.

But I really like this bucket trap in the video - the guy in the video used peanut butter, but I've heard that if ya put a piece of bacon around the can, they'll really come running. Also, the guy in the video left his bucket empty - ya can also fill it with water and drown the pests.

TX Yankee... I think that's the ticket. That kid in the video would be trapped in my house and let go. What a punk Know-it-all.

Dougy, When you let the meazly meices go, let them go in the neighbors yard that you don't like, then the mice become their problem. But obviously, you have the really good stuff in your house or you wouldn't have the problem at all. [8D] Good Luck!

I am with BB - grew up with mice all in the house -- you'd hear them running thru the walls at night (just bang on the wall and they stop), having baby mice in our closets. My dad would decon - but when you live in the country in a house that's 150 years old - that's what you get.

Mice don't bother me - but rats...Whole 'nother story. The are dirty animals....

Good Luck w/the battle...and no photos, please !

Dryer vent......make it aluminum vs plastic....harder to chew through....snap traps w/pb.!......don't worry about poisoning them...they crawl outside to get away.....why would anyone want to be humane with these things? They spread disease and crap in your food.........good luck ridding the home of the vermin....[:@]

Sticky mats- Bad thing !!!  Here's a true story for ya- this is the short version. Many years ago with my first home within days of moving in we found a 6 ft rat snake in my back yard. I made the then husband remove the snake and take it to the local creek. He warned me that we could now get mice /rats. Within 2 wks - we had a mouse /rat - found droppings in with my pans....you could imagine my horror...that was just the beginning. The then husband felt it would be more humane to get the sticky mats then the snap your neck traps. WRONG. Within minutes of putting it under there it caught a rat...he looked under the cabinet and the rat was gnawing his own leg off. My then husband decided he had to kill the rat himself to put him out of his misery so took a rag wrapped the rat and sticky mat in it and proceeded to take it outside and bash it's little head in with a hammer ! All I said to him is "oh yeah...that was more humane".[&:]
