Our First time renting a house in Mexico, what is traditional for tipping house staff in the Soliman bay area? Want to treat the staff well.

Thanks for all your help.

Traditionally we tip $5 - $8 U.S. dollars to the maid when we are renting a condo or hotel room.

Yes, that is per day as the maids are not always the same.  Especially when renting a condo or hotel room.  We have never rented a villa so it may be that you will have the same staff every day but I like to tip daily just in case.  [:D]

We've done villas the last 4 trips & the house staff are always the same. They live on site & work every day except Sundays. Does your house include meals?

Our rule is 10% of the unit price, usually breaks down anywhere from 4 - 6 bucks per person per day, our trips include some of our staff from work, we are all in the service industry & tip too much plus t's a write off.

Seems the standard on this board is 2-3 pp per day.

No meals are not included, but we plan on having the cook they have do all meals.

I would definitely give a little more if they are cooking all of your meals.

In my past experience, the properties we've rented (from casita, condo, villa) all provide a helpful "manual" with information on what the owners recommend as far as restaurants, things to do in the area, and how to tip the house staff. We always give at least what is recommended (usually more). They do guide you on what to tip extra for meals cooked esp. if they do the shopping for you.

Sometimes we live no particular way, but our own!

Depends on how many people you are!  Minimum $2 per person per day.  That's two dollars, not 20 pesos and that's just for maid service.  Cooking, etc requires a much larger tip daily.
