Derelict Condo buildings past Canon House

I just wondered if anyone can tell me the story on these? I walked around past Canon House yesterday, and was shocked to see the apartment/condo buildings there in such a dilapidated state, some almost derelict and falling down.

Were these private condos or part of some complex? And are they derelict, as some looked as if they could be occupied, even partially boarded up?

You are referring to what locals call "the bungalows." They have been there since the late 70's and yes, some of them are in disrepair due to numerous hurricanes. There are no derelicts living there, but there are some very friendly locals, both gringos and Mexicans. The owner, someone who does not live in Akumal, refuses to fix them up or tear them down.
