If you are new to the Forum and are looking for storm survival information on a specific area, resort, condo or villa use the forum "Search" function to see if one has been posted.

Click "Search" in the second line at the top of the Forum page. This will bring up the following screen.

On the above screen in the box labeled "Search Term" type in a word or more that you want to search for in the posts. It is better to only type a few words than a lot for example type "Luna Azul" rather than "Luna Azul Condos on Half Moon Bay". The fewer words in your search the more "hits" you will get.

If you are looking specifically for storm reports, on the line that says "Time Filter" click the box that says "All Topics" and select "1 Day" to just see reports posted since yesterday or select "7 days" for reports within the last week. There will be no storm reports older than that. If you want to see all posts about a subject just leave it set at "All Topics" but be warned if you search for something like "Akumal" with "All Topics" set you will get hundreds of posts returned.

If you have any other questions about how to search, just ask.

Whale you are such a hard working man. This is such good advice that you might want to stick this message to the top of the board before it filters to page three. I am always amazed that people don't use the SEARCH function more often. People will post a question and then just wait for an answer. For most questions, if they did a search they would have the answer immediately.

Darn, I guess no one has any reports on Eldorado Royale yet. I didn't see anything. I have been scouring the internet with no luck. I emailed them, but they aren't replying.

Whale, a huge THANK YOU!!! There were different things I had read about that I wanted to do while there and this has helped me go back and find that information. I am trying to get organized for the trip. If that is possible!

Am I a visitor???
Anyways, Anyone heard ANYTHING about Soliman bay or more directly, If Casa Yamulkan is still standing?
At this point I don't care if it sounds selfish, asking about our accomodations. I have been living for this, well, since we left last October, and well, They may need our money, but I need them , it, the people, the dogs, ,,,Mexico.
Any information would be so greatly appreciated!

Bump...and question:

I leave for Akumal the 30th of this month and HAD reservations at the ABR. Booked through locogringo...Is it too soon to email them, I don't want to overwhelm anyone right now. Thoughts anyone?

Lov'n, I don't think it is selfish at all..everyone is scrambling right now, trying to reorganize what they thought were set vacation plans. If the place you were planning on staying is out of commission, or didn't handle the crisis in the right way, of course you are looking for alternative arrangements, I would be too.

Katy - I don't think that an e-mail would be out of line. We are supposed to be leaving on 7/27 and I have tried to search for info in other ways, with no results. We need to know what to do. I know that everyone down there is probably overwhelmed right now, but at least your inquiry will be there when someone can get an answer for you.

I just found a website that tells about all the damage from cancun down to tulum. I am going to the Bahia Principe Tulum resort in Feb and it seems as if it may be closed for a couple weeks maybe longer. The website is http://www.cancun.bz/cancunweather.htm

Here is the direct page to the report. http://www.cancun.bz/weather/mayan_riviera_report.htm - Whale

I just got off the phone with my TA and he says Eldorado Royale is okay and suffered no damage. Iquana Mama, I am really sorry to hear of the experience you had with the ABR. That was horrible. I was actually considering there for our next trip.

Guests with reservations at Vista del Mar Condos and Hotel --
At this time, as there is still no power at our property, we would like to suggest a few options:
If you have travel insurance please let us or LG know. Your travel insurance should cover any bookings cancelled by a hurricane.
If you wish to stand by and can wait a few more days, we will have more information on a daily basis and then we can make a more informed decision about how to proceed with your booking.
If you must cancel, we are offering a full credit for a future stay.
Vista del Mar sustained very little damage to the condos, the beach is intact, and we even gained some beach in some places. Repairs are underway and once the power is on we will be fully operational.
Ideally the power will be restored very soon, and your holiday will be uninterupted. If you have a booking through LG, you may call us directly at 888-425-8625 to re-schedule. We want you to come, and the people of Akumal depend on your business.

Katy - There's an announcement at the top of the board for LocoGringo customers. It gives info on what to do if you've got an upcoming reservation. It might provide you with some info while you're waiting to get a reply to your email.

Via e-mail received today from Omni Hotel directly:

"Omni Puerto Aventuras will begin taking guests on September 1, 2005."

This is a change from the previously reported August 8 date, and it is based on delays in the company receiving insurance settlement funds.

Does anyone have any information about VIlla Moon Star? It is in Soliman Bay and we are scheduled to come down in a few months. Just need to make final payment and want to make sure everything is still standing and everyone is allright.
Thanks!

Does anyone know anything new about the condition of the El Dorado Royale? We're getting conflicting reports from phone calls, web sites and would like to know whether we should reschedule (set to arrive 7/28). We have reservations for a Casita and were looking forward to the secluded pools in that area, but I am concerned about whether or not they will be open.

We last visited EDR in 2003 and absolutely loved it.

Any inputs are appreciated.

Thanks!

Rebekah,
check out post #20 above. I received this info from Karisma about 3-4 days ago. There's an 800# you can call for the latest. I've sent emails, but no response there, but they will answer the phone!

Info on ABR

My cousin (American) works at ABR, and sent me this on the 26th;
"...The hotel on the other hand was very badly damaged by
the storm. The good news is that crews of people are working very
quickly to put everything back in order, repair roofs, fix broken
walls, replace broken windows and clear all of the fallen trees and
branches. They are expecting another 3 weeks before they are able to
open about half the rooms and I think that is a pretty fair guess."
He said that the hotel should be pretty much operational by Sep 1.
