Okay, so I was reading the thread about environmentally friendly sunscreen products and decided to go to the mexitan website. (www dot mexitan dot com)

Anyway, I placed an original order for some 15 and 30 sunscreen and a lip balm. Then I was reading more about the products and decided I maybe didn't order enough for our trip. So I went back and ordered a SPF 8 and a regular face and body moisturizer. Shipping for each with priority mail was only $4.95, so I didn't worry much about that.

Maybe 20 minutes after I placed my second order I received a PHONE CALL from someone at Mexitan. He noticed I had two orders and that the total was over $50, which would give me free shipping. He said that he would combine the orders and give me the free shipping.

Wow. How's that for customer service. And it's the least we can ALL do to use environmentally friendly products when we are visiting these sensitive areas.

Kim

It's nice to know that some companies still believe in quality customer service, isn't it?

Yes! And not only that, but I have already received a shipping confirmation. All this within about an hour. Customer for life.

Checked it out and "Bummer"! It costs $25 to ship to Canada. Add in duty and it's pretty expensive!

I LOVE their moisturizer, but I must warn you, since it's an all-natural product, environmentally friendly, etc., it does not contain any imulsifiers. You need to give it a good shake before using it because it does separate. I pour some into a smaller bottle (after shaking it up well) and keep the small bottle in the shower. It works best if you put it on when your wet, before drying off. Soaks in very nice and has no fragrance, which I also like. You don't need alot so it does last quite awhile.

Skedattle is also excellent. It works great for me even in a rainforest or jungle in the summer. I left what I had with me with someone in Akumal when I was done in Oct. Skeeters were biting and like me, they hate using the chemical stuff. And it has a light vanilla scent, which is much more bareable to me then the choking chemical smell of Off or Autun.

No I didn't go to the Canadian site. Thanks for letting me know about it. That's more reasonable, but as usual prices are higher. People still refuse to compensate for the fact that our dollar is at par with the U.S. these days! Most frustrating!!

I'm Canadian so I completely understand the frustration with the higher prices. Beyond just currency conversion, they also have to factor in getting their product to Canada, the customs fees, etc. NAFTA did squat to help Canada! My experience both in Canada and now living in the US, is that all the "free trade" did was give the US a better deal.

If the CAD does stay at it's current rates relative to the USD it will still take some time for imported products to come down in pricing. Stock being sold now was imported when the CAD was lower and I don't think any retail business is going to be willing to eat that.

I've read a variety of posts indicating that places like Yal-Ku & Xel-ha are very picky about what biodegradable products they allow. Do any of you know if the Mexitan products are ok there? I am considering buying some, but would hate to do that & then get there & have them make me buy whatever they are selling instead. Thanks.

I've never heard of anyone having a problem. The bottle have a big red circle with "biodegradable" written on it, and the ingredients are clearly listed on the back label. Nothing in it that's on the park's "no list." (You can find the "bad" ingredients list on Xel-Ha's website)

There was a period last year that Yalku was refusing just about everything, even products that were clearly not breaking their rules. My opinion, they just wanted to increase sales and if you want in, what are you going to do? I suppose that can happen anywhere at anytime, but it's a rare thing.

Whatever you buy, if you aren't buying it at the park itself, make sure to check the ingredients. Don't be fooled by claims of "all natural" and "eco-friendly." They don't mean the same as Biodegradable. (A product can use recycled packaging, for example, and call itself eco-friendly. From a marketing standpoint, the term doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what's actually in the bottle.)
