As an alternative your standard shrimp cocktail try this for a refreshing change. Take a half cup of mayo, the juice from one Mexican lime, a few drops of hot sauce and a small squeeze of catsup. Mix them together and refrigerate for awhile. Add more or less of any of the above ingredients to suit your taste. Cook up a bunch of shrimp and chill Cut several avocados length wise and remove the pit. Place the avocado on a plate, fill the hole with the mayo mix, arrange the shrimp around the avocado and serve. The mayo mix makes a great alternative to the standard cocktail sauce alone and is a great dressing for the avocado.

I love shrimp cocktail and always make my own cocktail sauce-horseradish and all, but your recipe sounds like a wonderful alternative. I'll definitely be trying it soon!!! Thanks

Careful, it’s addictive. One of the good things about this sauce is; if you enjoy it, the next time you’re at one of those places that serve peel and eat shrimp, you can always find suitable ingredients at the restaurant to mix up some on the spot. Those are great places to introduce your friends to an authentic Mexican shrimp dip. Another use of this sauce; Place a package of Philly cream cheese on a serving plate. [open the package first] Cover the cream cheese with crab meat. [fresh, caned or even that fake stuff] Cover with the mayo sauce. Serve with an outer ring of crackers, sesame rounds are my favorite for this. You can make a second one using either a homemade or bottled red cocktail sauce and see which one you and your friends prefer.
