Please pray for me! 29 days until we leave and I am in a panic thinking I am bound to forget something. I have sunscreen, bug repellent, tylenol, gravol, antibiotics, passports, swimsuits, hats, sunglasses, flipflops, double jogger stroller, 2 playpens, 1 sling, pedialyte, beach toys, is there a comprehensive checklist somewhere? We have travelled with all 5 before but not to Mexico - the idea of not having a Walmart close concerns me!

Woman, prayer won't help this situation....neither will Walmart....just drink heavily and enjoy your trip! Cheers- Mags

PrincessasMommy: Don't wait for Mexico start the drinking NOW. Personnaly I think you're way overpacking and unless you have a contract with a LTL (Less Than Load) freight hauler you will be severly dinged for additional luggage. Sometimes the expression "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it " is a punishment. I have sunscreen, (buy double what you have it's really expensive there) bug repellent, (preferabbly 25-30% Deet. Pump sprayers are lighter weight and can be carried on aircraft) tylenol, (good to have) gravol, (?) antibiotics, (unless you already have a Rx for tham, I would leave them home. If you need some the pharmacies in Mexico carry the medications and you don't need an Rx. Just write down the dosage information that was perscribed. because several antibiotics require refrigeration once formulated If you have the refrigerated kind now you have the added burden of a cooler). passports, (check) swimsuits, (no Speedos!?) hats, sunglasses, flipflops, double jogger stroller, (Now this is frivolous! get by with a stroller with smaller wheels. A jogger is too cumbersome in the small market places and crowded areas where you will be using it most. ) 2 playpens, (see post regarding hammocks, or my mother always used the dresser drawer as a bassinet{keeping the drawer open was dependent on the behavior of the child}) 1 sling (If you are going to use a sling/papoose or backpack carrier you could get by with a single stroller for #2), pedialyte, (buy it there, water takes up too much weight and room) beach toys, (absolute frivolity. All your kids need to entertainthemselves is there. Shell, coconuts, palm fronds, sea beans, small bits of coral, driftwood, hermit crabs, willets, sanderlings, iguanas, geckos, sea grapes,...) is there a comprehensive checklist somewhere? In addition, please take a flashlight and batteries, towels, first aid kit (where you keep the tylenol, benedryl, salt tablets, needle and thread, tweezers, packets of vinegar,) microdyne solution (if you are cooking meals), a softsided-collapsable cooler (pack it in your suitcase for the trip down, use it for carry-on and fragile gifts when you return, and it keeps your drinks and lunches cool during day trips there.) Best of luck Billiam

We always try to travel light! Since the kids spend the day in swimsuits we really cut down on clothes. A few tshirts and shorts and a few sundresses. I'd skip the playpens, but that is me - Also - I'd go water shoes and sandles and skip flip flops. If you go to Tulum or other walking places sport sandles are better than flip flops and I like my kids to have on water shoes in the ocean. Especially after Wilma. I'm not sure what might have washed into the water. We stopped bringing sneakers the first year we came when we found that we took them off when we got to the hotel and then never wore them again until the trip home. Now we wear our sport sandals with socks on the plane (and this is from upstate New York in the winter!)

I don't know where you are staying but when I took my 18 month old granddaughter, we stayed in the bungalows and they provided a pack n play for her to sleep in - my daughter did bring along a stroller which we gate checked which ended up in Frankfurt, Germany but that's another story. . . . anyway, I agree with Billiam's list (accept do take a couple of little buckets and sand shovels and leave them behind when you leave for the local kids)

We went in August for the first time with our crew (9, 4, 20 mo). DH and I had long conversations about our "inventory list"... and here's the big stuff that made the cut: 1 stroller <---- great for naps in the airport or room or for just strolling around a fussy toddler who's fighting a nap! 1 car seat <---- babies and toddlers do best flying in carseats (turbulence makes them instant missles) not to mention the long drive from the airport with lots of loco drivers on the road! We didn't bring a playpen since our hotel had cribs (although a bit prehistoric... it worked). If they didn't have cribs, we would have asked for a cot or extra mattress just to lay on the floor. I think your playpens would be ideal... but that's A LOT to carry. Everything else we brought was just minimal clothing, lots of bathing suits, sandals, beach shoes, snacks for the trip there and back, a few books for bedtime reading, toiletries, lots of sunscreen and aloe, and of course a good first aid kit (inc antibiotics). And don't forget the cameras with extra batteries!! And another thing I do on my trips is bring my $8 fake diamond ring as my wedding ring. Gives me lots of peace of mind! We thought about bringing our back pack carrier we use on hikes instead of the stroller, but we are so glad we brought the stroller. It was light, reclined for naps, had a basket for storage and a canopy to block out that intense sun. Good luck! I know it's crazy... but you're creating memories for your family that will last a lifetime! My kids can't wait to go back! Mary

I'm the same way about WalMart! I've got to have one within a 10 mile radius - especially with kids! Really, you'll be fine down in MX... just be prepared. Forgot to mention, make sure you bring some of those antibacterial wipes... great for the plane ride, sticky messes after meals and of course, whenever they've touched icky things like a public bathroom floor! That pedialyte is going to weigh a ton! You can get it down there. Leave the beach toys--if you think they need them, you can buy some down there (then leave them there for someone else to use.) You are going to need an 18-wheeler to haul all of that stuff down there. And depending on the airlines, you may get hit with extra charges for going over the weight limits. There is a new Walmart in PDC, also a Sam's Club, and Chedruai--you can get most anything at these places.

I think they have some sort of pedialyte in a powder form now. Maybe just have some of those on hand and mix it with some bottled water down there.

If you do have to buy any of the extra kid stuff, maybe you could leave it for the families in Mexico? Flip flops are definitely out in our family - they flip off and toes get stubbed. Just wear beach shoes, or those new cute beach clogs, with back straps. Can be worn as shoes, too. My son loves his and I may have to pick up a pair for myself. Have seen them at JC PEnney and REI. A couple of shovels are great, but you can usually pick up a bucket or two or a plastic cup down there for sandcastles, etc.

PMom, I don't know which airline you are flying with but SkyService charged us $5.00 Cad/lb for excess baggage. My recommendation, based on experience, is to travel as light as possible, purchase what you can in MX and donate it to the needy when you leave. If you can't buy it in MX, you probably don't really need it and most likely could improvise!! You've got your hands full with 3 infants. Don't overburden yourself. Considering you have 3 infants, you're going on a well-deserved vacation!!! Make it easy on yourself, even if it costs a few bucks extra. Enjoy the Roo, Sunkissed
