I have been feeling very humbled and in awe of Maggie's report..great job my friend.
...day 3..
awoke to a very windy view...maybe it'll die down??
down to breakfast (or up rather, there are stairs to the buffet..)
YAY YAY sandia juice..can't get enuff of that stuff.
sauntered to the beach..OMG RED flag..big waves, people talking about a tropical depression ???
but we are in the 'roo so into the water we go..yup it's great! ! ! !
lay out in sun to warm up..chatted with other guest who said she'd met other safeway staff here as well..small world eh??
going up for a beverage and bumped into the couple who'd checked in behind us ...hey fellow safeway LIFERS! ! !
from Vancouver tho'
He had checked into a snorkelling tour and offered us to join.(They were staying an extra week) we declined as we weren't sure if we'd be back at Akumal on thursday or not..
excuse me, gotta run, shane has suggested another way to warm up
nudge nudge wink wink..

dias 3.5
since this isn't in real time i'll continue...
after snagging some fresh pizza went in for more lunch..chicken wings, steaks, excellent salsa.etc etc etc
back at the beach, it is now a yellow flag so tried to snorkel again...tried to avoid pier as it was quite wavy still..staff member had suggested we avoid there for awhile. had seen some nice fish there earlier, so i just drifted over that way. Not much to see..looked up to find hubby way out of earshot..
looked back into the water ....'CUDA ! ! ! not sure if it was barry or not, didn't look big enuff. maybe only 4 footer??
no posse with him.
Went over to get hubby, brought him back and 'cuda was still there..just hovering there but soon took a turn to the left and he appeared to be much larger from that angle. he then disappeared into the murkiness.
As hubby had his open leg wounds, we chose to slowly and carefully make our way back to shore! ! ! Kinda spooky 'cause we didn't know where the 'cuda went !!!
By now the breeze had picked up quite abit, so i curled up in the beachtowels to get warm..hubby thought i was nuts.. turned my back to the water and watched the TEAM of palapers[sp] building from scratch...quite impressive almost like an assembly line! ! ! quite amazing to watch them replant those huge trees that had been up-rooted ! !
so now i'm really cold ..(in mexico??)
so we moved up to the pool area that was somewhat sheltered...oh yeah, snacked on some pizza on the way..
quite warm up here, i've never spent time time by the pool before, always the beach..not bad.
wandered up to the room to try to find something on the weather channel...... NADAreadied for dinner, carribean theme.
very tasty, never had fried pineapple, gotta get out more! ! !
dos kahlua coladas and back to room...Early night, buenos noches
//

//

//

//
what is that noise...midnite and music sounds like it is my room ! ! !
oh the night club is open til 2:00 a.m.
man i'm too old for this ! ! !

GBG: Thanks so much for your kind words....this trip for me was a very unique experience....it certainly wasn't a throw your hair back and all temperments to the wind....we saw friends...who we dearly love...it is different over e-mail than when you see them in person and get a chance to wrap your arms around them and look them in the eyes and say....

Yes, I came to see you!

You have traveled a bunch so I am sure you understand ...you heart just about breaking in front of the computer screen....keyboard is just wet....

To see my friends was just magical...people are what this world go round....and I hope we all never forget that!

I am priveldged to have some of the best friends in the whole entire world....pssst....you are the only Greek one....hehehe

Cheers-
Mags

Ps. Tipped my glass to you in the Roo....learned what chi-chi really means to you.....we should all aspire to be a woman like you!

dias 4
awaken to to the sounds of the "jorge" birds..look like crows but they crow in spanish and it sounds like JORGE ! ! ! (listen the next time you're there ! !)

another scrumptious brekky..they must only make sandia juice every second day...
lounged on the beach and snorkelled til 10ish not much to see. Cleaned up for lunch and off to akumal again...
still no sign of anyone at the library, know now we should have asked around ! !
knocked on whales door, no response, checked beach for him and his lovely wife..strolled about, took some more pics. Found the webcam was up so waved my flag ! ! anybody there??
walked up past ABR again...all were working very hard, still waved and smiled ! ! located the third drape way past the 700 bldg. tried to bring it in but it was very bent and tangled up ! !
One of the maitre'd from the main buffet was out there shovelling alongside the rest of the crew ! ! Everyone pitches in ! !
Retraced our steps and found the "cenote" hubby had stepped in..
WOW ! !
took some footage, need to try to post it...
stopped for a beer at Lol Ha..still no sign of the Whale.
wandered some more, enjoying the sights and sounds..knew in our hearts we were home...
met up with Lorelei and Stephanie who told us whale et al had gone to the ruins.. cleaned sand out if shoes in the ocean, how wonderful ! !
arranged to meet the ladies at 5:00 for beverages..
went to el cueva pescadors and had the mini lobsters on Iguana Mamas advice..
Thanks IM it was awesome...
Saw Lorelei drive by on a beer run she said..Hubby figured she'd found an awesome store aways down the hiway..Bought the t-shirts I'd come for at chomaks.
met the girls at 5:00. Turns out the beer store was Chomaks but she'd bought too much to carry so needed the car..
Off to LBV, by now I was starting to feel achy and cold, what a BABY ! ! !Didn't stay long, thay drove us back to the arches to cab it back to CMT..arrived at 6:45 and crawled into bed with the shakes and just to sweat it out..
for those who don't know, I am a 2 time breast cancer survivor (which is a moot point usually) but pertains to this story..
I have a condtion called lymphodema in my right arm.. It can cause me great grief if I should get a papercut or nick on my hand or arm.. Recognizing the symptoms, I began taking the antibiotics I'd brought with..after tossing about in the oven I'd created with my own body heat, I got up and looked in the mirror...sure enuff, my right bicep area was bright red, swollen and on FIRE ! ! !
We went to get me some food but nothing appealed to me..then we KNEW I was sick (hee hee)
I couldn't seem to get enuff water into me, kept sending poor hubby off to find me water and finally at 11:00 p.m. he went to the all-nite snack room and found me some SANDIA ! !
so here my trip report suspends for a day as all i did was sleep, eat sandia and drink water. Ocassionally came down to beach but found it too cold.. wah wah wah
poor hubby didn't have much a vacation babysitting a sick wife..gotta love him for that ( and a whole lot more)

I'll make sure to listen...too funny

I'm sorry you were not feeling well, while you were there...Nice to have your own nurse though...Dave is a keeper for sure...lucky you.
Please continue with your story...very entertaining and informative

I'm glad you enjoyed the mini-lobster at La Cueva del Pescadore. It's my favorite!! That's too bad you got so sick--at least you had your antibiotics to get started on right away.

dias 5...
Had a very fitful sleep, so was awake in time to sign up for the ala carte dinner ..At the CMT you needed to sign up the day before the dinner. We thought that was probably only until they were running with a full guest list..I was first to sign up for the BBQ dinner ! ! ! !
Went back to bed for an hour or so, tried some brekky but just fruit and water again...Down to the beach to write my trip report notes..thought of putting them in a bottle and sending them out to sea....Must be delirious !!!
walked back to get more water and saw a cool little character..was called an agouti [sp].. Of course hubby wasn't with so thought I'd dreamt it ...
actually we'd seen it the first night we were sitting on our balcony.. I thought it was carrying something off into the woods..i'd watched for it since then but it was only me that ever saw it ! !!
Got some buns to lure some fish..I thought that snorkelling might bring my fever down so out we went...This time we saw a purple ray and then eagle-eye hubby saw a camouflage flounder[hogchoker]
way cool ! ! ! ! That was all, sooooo tired, wrapped up in towels again and snoozed..again for those who don't know me, this is very rare for me to nap! ! ! !
still chilled so moved up to pool area again, then up to room and snoozed again ! ! !
under the covers...then the fever broke ! ! !
Suddenly I was famished ! ! ! headed for the buffet and sat with a couple and their son Yannick from calgary..Dinner theme was Mexican and all the staff[animation too]
were dressed up in traditional attire. Beautiful ! ! !
Back to bed, not as well as I thought..sure whine alot don't I ????

dias 6..

woke up to a moaning whiny noise...****???
it was me ! ! !
got up to look out window..yucky gray skies ..oh well it matched how i felt..
down at breakfast people were talking about a tropical depression Gamma ..OH NO NOT AGAIN??
OUT ! OUT ! D**N STORM ! ! !
headed to beach and saw the cutest little guys..coatimundis(sp?) from the raccoon family..there were 6-8 of them ! ! !! Oh yeah ...did I mention there were alot of cats at the CMT????
earlier in the week, I'd asked who they belonged to and was told "the hotel"
Funny story, a neighbour of the staffer telling me this, mentioned her cat was home after 3 years..right after wilma had gone through. Seems that as there were no guests to pamper the cats, they all returned to their original homes to be fed! ! !
Feeling like I'd eaten razor blades and poked my own eardrums out, I stayed up by the pool.. red flag at beach..rained abit
Ya know, maybe it wasn't all that bad but i'd rather be sick in mexico...lazed about the remainder of the day..good thing we hadn't booked to go snorkelling with the others..
oh ..there they are, they opted to wait for another time as well! ! !

Dinner was at 7:30 so away we went...The place was already full at 7:30 and they were out of grilled shrimp kabobs but there was so much else we didn't mind one bit ! ! ! ! ! I have to thank hubby for rescuing me from myself as I couldn't eat most of my steak so he finished it for me ! ! !
Kahlua coladas seem to soothe my throat tho'.. Got a couple to go
thanks Carlos.. decided to pack up tonite to avoid the blues on the last day...
We remembered that the show that night was to be Riverdance..one of my favs.. so we bundled me up and away we went..Great theatre! ! ! !
thoroughly enjoyed it... but now good night...

Thanks for the trip report, I have been enjoying them. One month away and I'll be at CMT. You really got me wanting one(or several) of those Kahlua coladas. Are they a frozen slushy drink???

GBG - such a shame that you got sick on your vacation - that's just not fair. Wow, 2-time breast cancer survivor - you are a tough lady mi amiga - hugs being sent your way right now!!! What caused the condition in your arm - I've never heard anything like it. Did the swelling go down?

My son got sick on the last day of our vacation last year. He spent the entire day snoozing in the hammock on the balcony - which was fine, because we were right on the beach. He had the same opinion as you - he would rather be lazing by the sea than sweating in his own bed at home!!!!

I like the sound of the place you were staying. Glad you're fully recovered now.

I am still enjoying your report! I am so sorry you were ill while you were there. I hate not being in the comforts of my own home and bed when I am sick. That is the worst!

Keep up the good reporting!

dias 7...
well all good things must come to an end...
the CMT is a lovely hotel. Anyone booked there will be pleased ! ! !
said goodbyes to the staff and fellow travellers who were staying another week...wah wah wah
wandered the beach,

fed the coatimundis

and finally saw the agouti and I had witnesses ! ! !

when a bird squawked near to him, his "fur" on his lower half shot up like a porqupine !!! neat guy!! said good-bye to all the ducks and fish we'd fed all week.. Took our luggage to the lobby and prepared to leave. The bus was late but who cares??????
Uneventful trip to the airport, fair amount of traffic in PDC, driver took a detour down a sidestreet and missed it ! ! !
As it was daylight for this drive down 307, we were able to see more of the damage done by Wilma the B***h [as brandy would say..]
Met up with milkmaid and her family at the airport... exchanged vacation stories, and I had her sign my cooler !!!
trip home was VERY painful to my head.. I do not, I repeat DO NOT recommend travelling with a headcold
arrived in Calgary to sub-zero conditions..no trouble at customs as the agent had a cold just like mine!! whisked us right thru'
Our ride was a little late or we were early ..whatever.he had our coats thank Goodness
What a long day.. it was now Midnite.. crawled into bed after a quick nightcap..

I know exactly what you mean about being cold in Mexico...I was shivering in the shade wrapped up in towels when I was there in the spring, after getting out of the water!

Great report! I love the wildlife pics!
