WELL ...for those of you who don't know me, grabbing a sell-off is so against the norm of how I usually function.
I have plans A,B,C, up to and including Z in case of unforseen problems..[just ask my family...]
so, Sunday nov 6th I was reading the forum, hearing everyone's plans for their upcoming visits to the 'Roo. feeling sorry for myself..
memoe wasn't home, dave was in the garage, I was sad...
had just read posts from all who would be at LBV on the 12th...
dave pops in with the news, IT's SNOWING ! ! !
click over to itravel2000 and lo & behold...CMT AI $898. normally at least $1649.
problem #1 flight leaves Edm 11/13 sun to rtn 11/20 so we'd have to miss the red deer party and LBV..
It does leave from calgary 11/11 rtn 11/18..perfect can make LBV and RedDeer.
problem #2..friends from calgary were to arrive in Edm 11/10 and visit with us for 4 days... quickly called them, she was thrilled for us so she said book it! [she didn't know it was all set on the puter, only had to hit enter..] BOOKED..we can drive 4 hours to calgary, leave our car at her house and return in time for the red deer bash..[her hubby and kids still came up and stayed at our house as it would be empty anyways] tell whale and the gang to put our names on the list for LBV 11/12
WHEW !!!!!!
Quickly get stuff ready..next few days a blur ! ! !we're going to the 'Roo!!
drive to calgary, spend the night. up early off to airport, glitch-free. I'd never had a ticketless ticket before..flight uneventful.little bumpy, no big deal...we're going to the 'roo! ! !
arrived to terminal 2, where did this bldg come from? we'd only ever used #1..very nice, quickly thru customs, got the green light [9 for 9 visits to mexico]. milkmaid stopped on her way to her bus..we'll chat next week ! !! we were quickly on our way...dark outside, couldn't see much out of bus windows.
At dave's suggestion, I am first off bus and straight to the check-in. no trouble, have key and welcome drink and we're off to find the beach !!! (and food). Nice hotel, beautiful moon-lit beach so we could see the trees were down and palapas damaged..but already being worked on. seafood nite at buffet. great staff who were so happy to see guests. long day behind us relaxed on hammock on balcony

Dave was ready to go of course..so we quickly headed to road for collectivo...oops, all the vans were full as locals were coming home from work. Nobody stopped !!!
Walked all the way back to hotel to call a cab. "will be 30 minutes senor"
wah wah wah Don't wanna be late ..oh well,
cabby arrives [45 minutes] away we go. No, he doesn't know where LBV is...
(yikes, neither do we !! !).. got to akumal arches, but i told him this wasn't it. He popped in to ask for directions [what a guy!!]...
came out grinning. He knows now !!! down a VERY bumpy road..we have arrived !!!
up the stairs around the bar...hear shouts
GBG is here.she's here ! ! !
I didn't think anybody knew who I was !!! [oh yeah, my pic is my avatar!]
whatever..I was made to feel very welcome..Hugs all around,maxiblnd,gokatgo, lorelei, pb2131,aj8830,charsweb,turdle,gextyr,beth and more...
Then the highlight of my LG career....Whale !!! I was in the presence of greatness !!!
What a wonderful man !!! Then, when I thought it couldn't get any better, who should come and give me a huge hug??

WoW GBG your an awesome story teller, can't wait to hear the rest.
I was at CMT 2 years ago and didn't see as many fish as you described, but I was a chicken I didn't snorkel all the way to the pier.
Will wait, more the story.

Thresa you do write a good story. I was at the TA and paid ourtrip Jenniferdidn,t think we should have a problem but she still hasn,t heard from anyone. Deana

Dias Dos...
OMG I slept in...it's 7:30 a.m.
poke, poke, get up, get up,there are so many things to do!!
Went for breakfast before heading to Akumal to snorkel..
NO SANDIA JUICE ! ! ! ?que pasa?
only canteloupe....ewwwww whatever ..we're in the 'Roo! ! !
Packed up our gear to take...oops, forgot the shoulder strap for the duffel bag...headed to the hiway to catch a collectivo..Had much better luck today. The driver saw us coming, backed up and waited for us! ! ! Off to akumal..seated next to me was a young mom with a little girl, maybe 2years old.
They were both so beautiful..I had a bag of goodies I'd brought to hand out and so I thought I'd start here !
I found a little Barbie doll and candy necklace and bracelet. She was so shy...I found some earrings for mama. she was smiling so brightly. Then i noticed another nino sleeping beside her, snuggled so close. I found some more candies and tucked into mama's hand.When we got off the bus, nina smiled and waved! ! !
Arrived to entrance of akumal, and felt like i was "home". Dave took lots of pix and we headed for the library. No one was there, we walked around and peeked about..I wanted someone to have the little things we'd brought so we went to the Lonceria. We explained (tried)to the young lady and gave her the items.. She was pleased. We remembered her as being so friendly and helpful last year when we were there.The food was awesome..
Off to try to find Whale and his wife Gail..

GBG - such a great trip report so far - so much enthusiasm just leaping off the screen. Great to have the story behind all Shane's and Whale's pics. I still want to know "who is who" on the pics. I can't believe you did all this and you've only just started on Day 2!!!
Can't wait to read the rest.

That's alice in az who's the library contact. They need money (Carlos & Maggie have not been paid in awhile), and they lost many of their books to Wilma. They want books in Spanish.

We stopped into super Chomak for a cold pop and to say hello..As we looked into the town square all we saw was a pile of debris..most visible was oshun store missing, lucy's tacos signage
..Wandered past Gallery and Lol Ha, looking for some familiar sites. We found everyone we met to be smiling and upbeat.
Knocked on Whales door, no answer. Nice place, we'd never looked around here before !!!
strolled the beach, saw dive shop,vast areas of new beach. Ruby's moonrise bar was quite damaged, sidewalks surrounding the ala carte restaurant was missing.Many workers busy at repairs, waved and smiled to us,kept right at it. security was ever present so we didn't want to get too close. there wasn't much of a sidewalk to stand on to view. A man who looked like the picture of Enrico I saw on the forum, was busy looking at blueprints with the crew in front of bldg 400. Lobby bar,tea room and main entertainment areas palapas were damaged but already had piles of new thatch ready and waiting. More security in main buffet restaurant, we took some photos. Found gail walking the beach, whale was with kay & gary. Joined her at her chair, chatted abit then headed out to see some fish.. quite murky, didn't see much. I popped my head up to tell dave we'd pretty much have to be right on top of something before we'd see it.
went under and there he was! ! !! A turtle ! ! ! had small remora on one flipper, just cruisin'. when the turtle came up for air, the remora slid down and around.. Hang on little buddy!! we watched for awhile as i fought back tears..(what happens if you cry into your snorkelling mask ??)
