I've been reading about Sangrita ... it sounds like some sort of chaser that accompanies tequila. What exactly is it and are there some better than others? How do we insure we get the good stuff? Are there customs related to it like the salt and lime (which I don't care for)? I enjoy a good sipping tequila over ice, but have never heard of this Sangrita.

Sarah-I can tell you all about sangria but not sangrita. Looked it up on line too. I might just have to try it. I'm sure there are a few LOCOS here that are experienced in this.

Yea, Angela, that's what I thought when I first saw it - someone had mispelled sangria. Then I thought fruity wine drink with tequila - can't be! It sure looks interesting - somewhat akin to a beer chaser for our bloody mary's. Thank you for the link - I've printed the recipes and might have to dabble a bit before our trip. Looks like an interesting site for foodies too - will have to dig a little deeper there. Thanks again.

Try this, a bandera (flag in Spanish), very popular in Mexico City and other area of Mexico.
3 shot glasses: one with lime juice (green), one with a good tequila (white) and one with sangrita (green). You have the colors of the Mexican flag.
Just take small sips of each and alternate. It is NOT a springbreaker game or a speed competition, but actually a very good ensemble of drinks, complementary to each other.
