Wife & I are just starting to look into possibly staying in Puerto Morelos on our next trip. I know I have seen others mention this area & would like to hear any suggestions those of you who have been there have to offer. We would prefer to stay in a beachfront condo that has a pool, walking distance to the town, condo can be 1 or 2 bdrm with views to the ocean/beach. Also any tips etc you may have to offer would be well appreciated. We have learned so much from this forum over the years but want to try a new area of the QROO.

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't been to Akumal so I can't compare, I can just give you my honest opinion about why I love Puerto Morelos. My overall reason is that it still retains that feeling of a sleepy fishing town but has some ammenities like a book store and great music. We were there off season and the locals outnumbered the expats and tourists and that is just how I like it. Many people speak English, but some don't so it can get interesting when you are shopping at the farmacia or putting minutes on your phone at OXXO :-) Personally I like that my kids were forced to order in Spanish and by the end of our trip were attempting to have Spanish conversations with the locals they met. There are plenty of options for condo rentals on the beach in PoMo both near the center of the town and further up and down the beach. I don't feel right about advertising other rental options on the Locogringo site so check out the options offered here and then do a search on Trip advisor or Google if you need further housing choices. Tons of info to be found... even Facebook has listings info and a Puerto Morelos page! I stay with a friend when i go so I don't have first hand rental info but I have walked by many on the beach that are in town and they are very nice if you like to be able to walk everywhere like I do. Collectivos come directly into the beach side of town and for 5 pesos will take you back out to the highway or on into the colonia. At the highway you can hop onto another collectivo headed north towards Cancun or south towards Playa. We did the ADO busses from the same highway spot and went into Cancun and Playa that way. Taxis were 20 pesos to the highway and with 4 people minus the tip, they were just as cheap as the collectivo for us. Can't remember the exact bus fares but they know they weren't out of hand or I would have remembered the prices! I would have to say that I think the food in PoMo is great. Lots of options both on the beach side as well as in the colonia across the highway. I tend to head to the more authentic places but I also had a great steak at Al Chimmichurri and some fantastic pizza at I Wanna Pizza. I hear there are a couple of new hot spots opened in the colonia since we were there this past August. John Grey's place is supposed to be awesome but we weren't looking for something quite that fancy. The snorkeling is good and I like it because it is regulated so you don't get the people trying to ride turtles. The down side is that you need to hire a boat and get a wristband to go out to the reef. You can snorkel along the beach and there is a couple of fresh water ojos that empty out of the ocean floor that are accessible from the beach when snorkeling. I didn't search them out but have read other's accounts of how to find them. If you have questions about PoMo that I haven't addresses, feel free to ask or you can always send me a PM as well and I will do my best to answer them.

We just did a Akumal / Coz / PM trip Each is special Had some great food in PM and it is much more stretched out over a wide beach Akumal is more close and 'intimate' - properties / palms are close to the water - not much in PM Would I return to PM - perhaps - Isla is my next favourite , Akumal area is still the best imho

We love staying at Casita Blanca on the north end of town. It has the best beach, and is within walking distance to town. This place is older, but in very good shape, and Carlos and his wife are the best managers we have come across...they will do anything to make your stay perfect....love this place
