This will be our first time staying in a condo on Halfmoon Bay....curious as to what is the best way to stock up the condo (mainly cervesas and some food) for a group of 4 to waste as little beach time as possible? Do you order delivery service or stop on the way down, will USA transfers or Cancun Valet stop for you?? if so where do you recommend. I plan on picking some things up at the grocery store in Akumal, we will be eating out most of the time....but love chilling out on the beach with cervesas in hand!
So please share what works best for you!
Thanks

You will love staying on HMB. We normally rent a car and stop in PDC on the way down. It's been a few years since we've been down, but we stopped at Walmart in PDC. It was a zoo! Heard good things about Soriana. I'm sure someone with more recent experience will chime in about that. During our stay we typically visited San Francisco (I think that's what it's called) in Tulum to replenish our supply.

This trip we are going to use rivieramayagroceries.com. They have good reviews. After doing the red eye from the west coast the thought of showing up with cold beer waiting in the fridge and not having to shop for food right away sounds heavenly!

When are you going to be in Akumal?

We have used Gessica's grocery service every time we have gone down... Her service is exceptional.. And we would not hesitate to recommend her.... nothing beats getting there with everything already there... Just start the holiday...

Well...I am planning for our next February trip, yes I know planning way ahead! But I am planning this for us and another couple I like to have a well organized plan so no surprises and we can hit the beach ASAP! My planning OCD has always worked well for us in the past!
We have no desire to rent a car....we are renting a golf cart when we get there!

The transfers will make a 1 hr stop. You'll have to let them know you want that in advance, and there is a charge. Not sure what the current fee is, but it should be $25-30.

I prefer to go to the store and pick up what I want food wise. I like to see what looks good, and we always find a few new and different things to try. My preference has been Mega or Chedraui. Sorianna is more convenient to 307. Either one really is fine.

New Chaudraui in Puerto Aventuras is a great, quick stop. The new Chaudraui isTulum is huge! We always stop on the way into Akumal so we're good to go!

Went to the fairly new Chedraui near Playa Ave. and it was dirty and the produce choice was terrible. We then went to the new one in Tulum, and it was best by far. I would suggest Soriana...we have always had good luck there. Get your booze at the duty free at the airport...much cheaper. Don't forget the open air market on Sat and Wed. in Akumal...plus...the stands over in the pueblo are great. We bring down bagged tuna and miracle whip, which you can't find down there, and a few spices from home. Be aware Chomak is priced for tourists...I once paid $6 for a cheap jar of pickles that in the states Save-a-lot stores are $1.50...just so you know...

Personally I don't like to get anywhere near Playa. I'm just barely comfortable with going over the overpasses there.

We generally eat only breakfast at the condo in Half Moon Bay and we've always found what we need by shopping locally at Super Chomak, El Pueblito, The Corner Store and Midway Foods.

I don't worry about the prices. Not after paying $$$$ just to get there.

We like stopping at Chedraui in Puerto Aventuras. It's right off the highway, and is big enough to get all we need and want for the week but way smaller than a Walmart or Sams' stop. I am also OCD on being prepared and like to bring ziplocks with coffee, splenda, tea bags, baggies for lunches on the beach, spices, etc. Some things are cheaper in Mexico but lots of things aren't! We spend under an hour on the way in and are then good to go for the week. Have fun planning and then just relax .

I wish the condos would keep certain simple things... like Salt & Pepper.

We have our shuttle stop at Soriana in Playa. Have always found what we need there at a reasonable price. Then we fill in with anything we run out of at Chomak. It is pricey, but at that point I'm more interested in getting back to the beach. One note though. If you are a coffee drinker bring your own with you. We have yet to find any coffee in Mexico which we consider palatable, and I love taking that first cup out onto the beach for a sunrise!
