Hi all:

Contemplating a solo trip next month...hubby has recently started a new job so he can't go.
Thinking about staying at La Joya..the new pool sounds great, I can see myself spending a good deal of time there! :)

Anybody done a solo trip? Would you do it again?

Any advice?

Thanks in advance!!

(PS..been to Akumal many times, so am very familar with the area...and have done a single vacation before to Florida.)

V.

Have done Akumal MANY times solo. I love te time alone in the house, and time in the restaurants and on HMB where I meet new friends. Always feel very safe, and am never lonely. Enjoy!

Yeah....when

Oh, also last year were my very first solo trips, and I LOVED THEM...I've only been home 2 weeks (from a month long trip with hubby) and am already planning my next TWO solo trips for this year! May and Aug/Sep

I went alone about 2 years ago and felt very safe. I stayed at VDM and loved it.

A little over a year ago I took a 10 day trip down by myself to get some major dental work done and I have to say that I was miserable much of the time being by myself. But, my wife is also my best friend and traveling without her just wasn't the same. However, the trip was made much better by hanging out with some Locogringo friends, especially Soleil Soul and Vancouver Sundog, who took pity on me and let me hang with them. Also, seeing Finsup and other amigos we had previously met helped alot.
However, over the years we have met several people travelling alone who had a great time. If you are going to be down during the 2nd and 3rd weeks of April there will be a great bunch of fun Locogringos in the area, check out the Parties Forum.

I went once by myself in 2009, stayed at the ABR and many of the LGrs were so nice and kind of took me under their wing and let me hang with them (did try not to impose and hang all day to give them some alone time). I would check the parties forum to see if others will be there at the same time. I'll be on HMB May 18-24 and before that on Isla for 4 nights.

Yes and yes! I wouldn't worry, as a female traveling solo. Just use common sense, and you'll be fine. I'm going down solo again in April and I am very excited. But then again, I am single, an introvert and enjoy my solitude. (although I also enjoy meeting new friends whilst in Akumal) So I guess it really just depends on your personality.

Let us know when you plan on being down. Perhaps we can schedule a meet-up? :) Feel free to PM for any questions, this will be my 7th trip to Mexico.

Hi VeeVee!

I have been traveling solo for many years to Mexico and have always felt safe and right at home in the Yucatan. This year a friend is actually joining me.

The Riviera Maya corridor is easy enough to navigate solo, using the ADO bus, collectivos & taxis. As KansasKid suggested, pack just what you can carry-on to the plane and you'll be good to go. Follow Badger's advice and check the LG Parties Forum for LG meet-ups. I have found that folks on this forum are very friendly and welcoming.

When are you visiting Akumal? You are welcome to hang out with us if you'll be there 4/9-15.

Cheers!
Dawn

Check the LG party boards. There should be some get togethers during your stay. We'll miss you by a couple of days.

Vee Vee,
I usually travel solo and love it. I can do what I want, when I want. I am invited to join others more often when I am solo. I used to work for the airlines and have traveled the world solo; just follow the same safety rules you would follow in any US city. The Riviera Maya is a great place to go solo, I've done it many times. Just look for the party of the day on this forum. Enjoy!

My visit to Akumal was solo in September. Like Jamie, I stayed at ABR and sought out other LGers, who were all absolutely wonderful folks!
