We bought a FujiFilm FinePix XP a couple of years ago before our first trip to Akumal with our kids. They bill it as their water/shock/dust/freeze proof model. It takes good point & shoot and also HD video. This has been a pretty sweet camera with no problems for about $120ish? from Costco. I think they have a newer version now, maybe it's $160. Probably not for scuba diving but great for snorkeling and beach pics. I live in Minnesota and it's also handy for fishing so I don't have to worry about getting the camera wet.

I've used the Nikon AW100 underwater, on land and to shoot video. I love this camera. I have three other small cameras (Canon, Kodak and Fuji) of this type and prefer the AW100 to all of them. The editing software is super. It has a good zoom on it It's been in the water over a dozen times with no problems. It's at Costco also, right around $200. It used to be closer to $300 when it first came out. .

I have used Sealifes (made for u/w), Fujis, Kodaks , etc

Never liked u/w housings - too many seals , small buttons

Cheap ones are rated for max 1 hr - 10 ft
Next are a little more , maybe 16 feet
Then 33-40 feet

We got a Go Pro - not bad

Considering a DC1400 Sealife

Cheap cams have no close focus

You pay for what you get

I enjoy the Olympus line. Cannot wait to put the new TG-820 in the water this summer. The first one we had ...perfect performance....1030sw was great until I didn't seal the screen crack from 2 years ago. Here's video from Soliman Bay in about 15 feet snorkeling. Sorry about the fantastic audio of the camera underwater. LOL

That's what we are looking at for diving as well.... It looks easy to use & like it's a great little camera!

My favorite camera will always be my D10!! They don't make them anymore & the D 20 has reports of leaking, lesser photo quality & the connector for the strap comes off easier. My first one finally died when I dropped it for the 100th time.
Amazon.com had a few, so I got another & am so glad I did!! I took over 40,000 photo with my first one & I've had this one since Nov & am over 3,000 already!! Bought a silicone cover for it since I have the dropsies. It only goes to 33 ft & I need another camera for diving

I prefer my Sony cameras in an underwater housing (good to 132ft).

You will get a lot of different opinions on here...just gotta go with what's good for you

We bought new Olympus Stylus cameras and Ikelite cases for out last trip in November. Convenient for bride and I to have the same cameras and cases. We found them on Amazon.

I agree with FinsUP. I also have a Sony housed camera. It came with inserts, so it will fit different types of Sony camera's and some Sea & Sea accerories will fit the housing.

If you are looking for a more inexpensive uw camera, Intova makes some decent ones. www.intova.net/category/products/underwater-cameras/
