i started daydreaming the other day about wheeling on the beach from the ABR to the Lol Ha, and as i was visualizing the path i travel to enter the beach, it turned into a nightmare!

i’ve read about the changes coming and the closing of the Moonrise and buildings and the fence etc., but forgot that i get on the beach between the dive building and the Moonrise (because it is level there and a short distance to the hard sand)

my concern is that the fence blocks off the walkway around the restaurant to the Moonrise somewhere.

i’ve borrowed nancyjo’s photos....Thank you Nancyjo!....but can’t tell for sure if the pathway is blocked.

(i zoomed in on her original photos but still couldn't be sure)

so for anyone who has been to the ABR recently, can you tell me if that fence blocks the pathway anywhere?

thanks.

I'm afraid that you will no longer be able to use that route. Perhaps the walkway to the main restaurant (north side)
from bldg. 6 would work? If I remember right that is a short drop to the sand.

Maybe the rope can be moved when you need access? Maybe email them?

I think Moon has the right idea, email them and then remind them when you check-in. If you can't get any satisfaction from the front desk, ask to speak to Renato, the manager. I'm sure he will be able to help.

I just noticed that we will be in Akumal at the same time as you, hope we get to meet. We will probably buy a daypass to the ABR at least once while we are there.

Edit: Paul, we arrive in Akumal late on the 9th, if you can let us know ahead of time when you need to get on the beach, maybe I can get Patrick (Shellsway) to come over and help, we'll find a way to get you on the beach.

It is not just the rope, it is the cement posts holding the rope. Some of them are right in the middle of the of the brick walkway. Once you get passed the massage hut the walkway is blocked. Renato will be unable to help as it is not their property anymore. The sold off property is slowly being gutted. We were there for the day two weeks ago.

Thanks for the details, Animooshe, but what I meant was I think there has to be another way to get 4 wheeled to the beach from the present ABR grounds....we'll figure something out, I'm pretty good at finding solutions to problems.

Hey 4 Wheeled,

We were just there and hung out near the end of building 4. The paved walkway is blocked around the old round building. But the sand has drifted near the walkway between the massage hut and the area between buildings 3 & 4 where the snorkel tour groups convene. I think you could access the beach here. You would have a short stretch of soft sand to cross before hitting the harder wet sand. Might need just a short push.

They have put a couple of new concrete ramps in around the grounds.

Good luck and enjoy!

thanks everyone for your input. that's what i was afraid of with the fence.

oh well. that was just the easiest way. with a run at it i was able to get on and off by myself. looks like i'll just have to get a hand this time.

the drifted sand by the massage hut sounds promising, thanks SnorkelN.

i think i'll wait 'til i'm there to contact them, so i can know better what to ask for...a sheet of plywood may be all i need.

Badger, i'm sure we'll bump into each other when you're at the ABR, or in Akumal. i'm going to check the party board now.
